shouldalsonotfallshort.Thereforeweincludedtwonewoptions,
whichwewillelaborateuponinmoredetailinchapterstwotofour:

andmonsters.

to
now,
the
hero
could
learn
most
all
the
skills
and
at
some
point
alsocarryanyweaponinthegame.Someplayersenjoyedtobecome
nearalmighty othersprefertheclassicalspecializationinroleplaying
games.Onceamage,alwaysamage.Withstaffandnotwithbowand
arrow.
2.1Turning
the
Alternative
Balancing
on
and
off
Aftertheinstallationofthepatch,theABistturnedoffbydefault.If
youwanttotryitout,youwillhavetoclickontheleftbuttoninthe
mainmenufirst:
Whetheronewantstoplaywithorwithout"Alternative
Balancing",isafundamentalchoicewhichhastobetaken
beforethestartofanewgame.Itisnotpossibletochangethis
duringarunninggame!ThesavedgameswithAlternativeBalancingarestrictly
separatedfromthosewithoutAB,asmixingupcouldleadto
malfunctions.
Thenewmeleebalancehowevercaneasilybechangedduringa
runninggame.

3.2.1 BlocksystemWithactivatingtheAlternative AItheblock parade systemofGothic

Inparademode(automaticallyactivatedbypressingtherightmouse
button),thefulldamageofanattackcannowbeblocked.Toachieve
this,theopponentfromwhomthisattackisblockedhastobevaguely
focusedupon.
Someattacks
can
still
pass
through,

stab

the
cleave

Inaddition,theheronowregenerateshisstaminaactuallyslowerwhile

3.2.2 "Rage"andanimalsAnimalsnowreact"agitated"whentheheroperformsmanystrikesina
shorttime.Insuchcasestheywillmakearapidcounterattackand
duringthis
will
ignore
any
damage.
Also,
they
will
not
retreat
when
hit
atthismoment.Ofcoursetheydotakedamage,butatthesametime
theycanhurttheiropponenttoo.
Iftheirattackissuccessful,theywillcalmdownfirst,untiltheyare
agitatedagain.
Thissystemshoulddecreasecontinuousquickattacksoftheheroand
givethemonstersa(small)chancetodefendthemselves.
Hint:Inpacks,animalsactmorecoherentandcontroltheirrage,
thereforeitislessdangeroustoapplyquickstrikesthere.
3.2.3 VariabledifficultylevelAfurtheradvantageoftheAlternativeAIisthevariabledifficultylevel.
Theprobabilityoffailuresandwrongdecisionsinbattleisdetermined
forOrcs,humansandsomeotheropponentsdependingonthe
situation.
Withthedifficultylevelsetto"low",itismorelikelythatanNPCmakes
awrongmoveorafalseattackthanforthedifficultylevels"medium"or
"hard"respectively.
ThedifficultyleveloftheAIfirstlydependsonthedifficultylevelofthe
overall
game,
which
can
be
set
in
the
menu,
secondary
on
the
level
of
thehero,andfinallyontheindividualsituation.Duringarenabattles,
theopponentsaremoreconcentratedthanothertimes,thusthey
makelessfailures.
