All teacher vacancies have now been filled. We shall have three new staff beginning next year. One will be

replacing Matthew Jackson who is taking twelve months leave, a new teacher will be replacing Todd Cleeland,

who will be taking STEM classes (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and another new third

teacher to cater for the increase in student numbers.

At present our enrolment figures for 2017 is 579. That is a growth of approximately 30 students.

The grade one classes have moved back to the top of the dome in readiness for Orientation Day. New furniture

has been ordered for the new portable classrooms which will become grade two classrooms for next year.

Beach stops in 2017. All students presently enrolled and their siblings will not be affected. From 2017, any

student that enrols at Cowes Primary School but lives closer to Newhaven Primary School will have to pay to

use the school bus service.

Cowes Primary School Values - Sharing Cowes Primary School values sharing! Sometimes it seems

we need reminding of the lessons we were supposed to

conquer at those early ages. In our busy lives, it is so easy to

get distracted and self-absorbed and forget our responsibili-

ties to others. However, the fact remains that it is our duty,

as adults, to teach children to share. This means that we

should role model, facilitate, encourage and celebrate

sharing.

Some ideas for doing this include:

discuss why sharing is important

discuss how sharing with others makes you feel

discuss how it feels to have others share with you

discuss how it would feel not to have things you need

(food, a home, love, clothes)

provide youth the opportunity to discover ways they

can share what they have encourage giving to others by

setting aside money, time, or resources for your child to

give to causes they choose It is important to not only share

concrete resources with others but also our feelings.

Junior Performance (P-2) Dear Parent/Guardian,

On Thursday 8th of December we are going to be

holding a Junior Performance (P-2). It will be held

at school on the basketball court between 12-:30pm.

All students will perform once as part of their

Grade’s performance. I have previously sent home a

costume note for your child’s grade. If you can do

your best to source this costume it would be greatly

appreciated.

I understand that the performance is during work

time for many of you, but if you could make it on

the day that would be fantastic.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact

me at school.

Kind Regards,

Simon Nolan

Ray White Reading Award

The Grade 3/4 Ray White Reading Award for week 8 was awarded to Ryder Evans from Room 4.

This week’s award goes to a student who has shown tremendous commitment to improving his reading. Before he reads

he considers what he already knows about a topic and predicts what he might learn after he has read. He asks himself

questions as he reads and continues to ask questions after he’s finished the book. He is able to discuss what the authors

have meant when they have used creative phrases. He tries hard to learn the meaning of new words he encounters them

and enjoys talking about them afterwards. His home reading habits are excellent. He carefully chooses books to read at

home and is dedicated to reading every night.

Pictured is Juliana Morris from Ray White and Ryder Evans.
