“Around the World in 80 Days”April MMXV, my blasted younger brother Aloysius and that other nitwit Lord Bobbins have yet again got themselves into an argument; this time regarding the recent 80 day voyage of Phileas Fogg and subsequent 72 day trip made by Nellie Bly. Aloysius claims that the latest airships can circumnavigate the globe in two days and has issued forth a challenge to any airship captain insane enough accept; a race around the world and a grand prize for the winner. To ensure that this is a fair race I have decided to follow the contestors and keep record in this journal. May the best crew win!

Page 1Welcome to the Symposium
The International Steampunk Symposium (aka Steampunk Empire Symposium) started in April 2012 and has grown by leaps and bounds each year ever since. Located in Cincinnati, Ohio it is perfectly placed for central access from all over the United States, and many cross state borders and international borders for this annual gathering of ladies and gentlemen who commonly enjoy reenacting the future that never was!
Voted the Best Steampunk Convention in the Midwest, this three day festival offers all that you would expect from a fandom convention such panels, workshops, guest speakers, vendors, music, dancing, and parties, but there’s even more.
The signature event of the Symposium is the Symposium Games, a sort of “Steampunk Olympics” in which Airships and Steampunk Groups from various cities come together to compete against each other in “gentlemanly” and somewhat “eccentric and extreme” games such as Tea Dueling, “Penny-Farthing” races, and the delightful RC Dirigible races which originated at the Symposium in 2012 and is now seen at various other Steampunk events. Indeed, the International Steampunk Symposium is an interactive weekend with some of the friendliest ladies and chaps that you shall ever meet.

Page 3Symposium Safety Policies
The Pandora Society and the International Steampunk Symposium’s (herein Symposium) convention committee wants the Symposium to be a safe, enjoyable convention for everyone. To this end, everyone with an Symposium badge is required to abide by this Symposium code of conduct.
The Symposium has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment. Harassment is generally any behavior that annoys, alarms, or threatens another person or group of any kind, including but not limited to: Stalking, offensive verbal comments, non-consensual photography, unwelcome physical attention, intimidation, physical assault and/or battery.
In relation to, but not limited to: Race, Color, National Origin, Gender, Gender Identity, Gender Presentation, Sexual Orientation, Age, Body Size, Disability, Appearance, Religion, Citizenship, Pregnancy.
Our policy applies to EVERYONE at the convention: exhibitors, entertainers, attendees, speakers, guests, professionals, press, staff, volunteers and security are all subject to our anti-harassment policy and will be held to the same standards and disciplinary action.
Harassment of convention members online or in electronic venues will be treated as seriously as physical harassment.
If a person engages in harassing behavior the Symposium staff will take prompt action in any form they deem appropriate, including expulsion from Symposium with no refund and may result in expulsion and/or long term suspension of your future eligibility for Symposium membership and other Pandora Society events.
Anyone can report harassment. If someone’s behavior has made you uncomfortable you should immediately contact a member of ISS staff or security team or call 1-984-No harm 0 and someone will meet you. If necessary we will provide escort, offer a safe place and assist anyone experiencing harassment to make sure they are and feel safe for the entirety of the Convention. We will also contact local law enforcement if it is necessary and stay with you until they arrive.
Clermont County Non-Emergency Service 513-732-2231Clermont County Emergencies 911
In all cases where someone has told you or demonstrated that they do not wish to interact with you, do not contact them in any fashion, including through an intermediary, unless and until they approach you of their own initiative. Just as you do not owe anyone your time, your attention, or physical contact, no one owes you theirs.
If you wish to report an incident after the convention, or would like to express your concern about an incident that occurred outside of the Symposium involving a convention attendee, you may email the head of our anti-harassment committee ([email protected]) at anytime.
Page 4International Steampunk Symposium wants everyone to have a fun, enjoyable and entertaining event, so please follow these sensible guidelines:
1. You must wear your membership badge at all times to be admitted to any convention function.2. All attendees must abide by the Symposium Saftey Policy against harassment.3. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages by anyone under 21 years of age is grounds for expulsion from the convention without refund.4. Keep all behavior considered publicly offensive in your hotel rooms.5. Check all weapons at Registration for peacebinding; realistic replica firearms are not permitted.
We reserve the right to ask you to leave the convention and refuse to refund your membership money if you are violating Symposium safety policies.
Please Note . . .
Announced events and guests are subject to change and/or cancellation without notice. Every effort will be made to announce any changes via SteampunkSymposium.com and pre-convention publications but sometimes last-minute changes will occur.
International Steampunk Symposium LLC and affiliates are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property, or for injuries sustained during the course of the convention.
