DOCUMEnT AUThEnTICITY FEATURES
JURA JSP’s ICS® and ICI® are patented high-resolution digital applications for the protection of banknotes, legal documents and security products against reproduction.
These processes and any of their forms are covered by the US patent, registered and granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office under No. 6,104,812, and any related international PCT applications world-wide.
high security value papers and security documents must be protected against any kind of re-production, tampering, counterfeiting. The genuine product should not be reproducible but with remarkable changes only (i.e. the original effect does not work on the copy). Three types of security features were developed for different groups of printed security documents. These features are providing hidden information in the screen structure of the existing design. The hid-den information is invisible to the human eye and can be verified with a simple decoding device.ICS® is exclusive for banknotes, ICI® is mainly for high security products – both printed with dif-ferent high resolution printing processes (offset, intaglio, etc.) in modern security printing works.
DescriptionofDigitalWatermarking Features:IDPDoCumentProteCtIon) andDigital-IDPDoCumentProteCtIon)IDP is a digital watermark placed in the background-print of the document, containing person-alized data, printed in one round with documents without a photo. The invisible information can be verified by an inexpensive plastic decoder, same as other members of the Jura security feature family (IPI™ and ICI®). Digital-IDP encodes binary data into a constant object, printed together with the variable information. It combines the advantages of IDP and 2D-barcodes (encrypting hidden information). Optimal for certificates and other fixed-format documents.

ICS® is exclusive for banknotes printed with different high quality printing pro-cesses (offset, intaglio, etc.).
ICS® with inkless intaglio printing
Characteristics• Veryhighsecurity: The danger of color copying is kept down to minimum;
the chance of counterfeiting with color copiers or commercial computer-to-plate (CTP) equipment is very slight.
• Veryhighversatility: It is applicable on banknotes with a wide range of possibilities.
• Embeddedimages: The embedded (hidden, secondary information) imag-es can be numbers, texts, portraits, grayscale images (logos, coat of arms).
• Verylowimplementationcosts: neither additional investments nor spe-cific materials are required. no additional operations and costs in printing and finishing are needed.
ICS® (InFORMATIOn CARRIER SCREEn)

PrintingtechniquesICS® can be applied with the following major printing techniques:• offset (both sheet-fed and web-fed) printing, simultan offset• visible or invisible UV ink• intaglio printing, including blind or inkless intaglio• combination with UV and IR inks strongly enhances the security level• allows application of machine-readable numbering or text (magnetic, optical, barcodes)
typesofHiddenInformationICS® technology supports all kinds of information to be encoded into the banknote:• written text of any kind, including all existing alphabets• black & white or grayscale images• line-based rasterized image• dot-based rasterized image• combination of the above mentioned types, for example:
black and white based information and grayscale based infor-mation hidden in perpendicular directions in the same design
DecodingA simple plastic device (ICS® decoder) is placed onto the document to decode the embedded information. The embedded information appears under the decoder. Though the decoder is a public domain, it is sold only for national banks or banknote printing works.

ICI® (InVISIblE COnSTAnT InFORMATIOn)
The ICI® security feature is designed mainly for high security products printed with different high quality printing process-es (offset, intaglio, etc.) in modern security printing works.
ICI® with offset printed UV ink

PrintingtechniquesICI® can be applied with the following major printing techniques:• offset (both sheet-fed and web-fed) printing, simultan offset, visible or invisible UV ink• intaglio printing, including blind or inkless intaglio• combination with UV and IR inks strongly enhances the security level• allows application of machine-readable numbering or text (magnetic, optical, barcodes)
typesofHiddenInformationICI® technology supports all kinds of information to be en-coded into the source document:• written text of any kind, including all existing alphabets• black & white or grayscale images• direct color images (CMYK should be avoided, direct
colors improve the level of security)• line-based rasterized image• dot-based rasterized image• combination of the above mentioned types, for example:
mainly black and white based information and grayscale based information hidden in perpendicular directions in the same design
M-ICI® (MICROTExT-bASED InVISIblECOnSTAnT InFORMATIOn)M-ICI® is a revolutionary new feature that hides extra information in micro-printed letters. The embedded information is possible to decode with our sim-ple plastic device only.M-ICI® has similar attributes to ICI® with certain differences. It is applicable on all high security products including banknotes, using only b&w images as en-coded information, and it can be printed with wet and dry offset and also intaglio printing.
8
SecurityProductsICI® is applicable on a wide range of security products to improve security and protection: checks, bonds, certificates, excise labels, transport tickets, pass-ports, visa stickers, ID-cards, driving licenses, traffic registration documents, postage and revenue stamps, printed plastic cards, etc.
DecodingA simple plastic device (ICI® decoder) is placed onto the document to decode the embedded information. The embedded information appears under the decoder. Though the decoder is a public domain, it is sold only for security related companies and authorities.

IDP (InVISIblE DOCUMEnT PROTECTIOn)
PersonalizedProtectionforofficeDocumentsIDP is a personalized digital watermark placed in the background-print of the document. It’s a security feature developed for personal documents without a photo.IDP contains personalized data chosen from the document itself. This can be placed into a decoration element and printed together in one round with the document text. The feature is offered mainly for issuing authorities of the documents below.
IDPisSuitablefor• birth-, death-, marriage-certificates• land and vehicle ownership certificates• university diplomas• notary documents• government documents with restricted
circulation• contracts• legal documents, etc.
PrintingIDP• optimal with laser printers
(black & white or color)• also works with ink-jet printers
lens-readableIDPintext
IDP can be also embedded into grey text fields. In this case both the visible and the invisible information is variable, what makes the doc-ument even more difficult to tamper. For instance, a certain data (like a date or a number) can be hidden into the name and address. So two various sorts of variable data – one visible, one hidden – are generated into each other.
lens-readableIDPinlogoA logo or other graphical element on the printout can contain IDP. The hidden information is not visible to the naked eyes. Through an inexpensive plastic decoder the individual information appears.
11
Digital-IPI encodes binary data into the photo. Digital-IDP combines the advantages of IDP and 2D-barcodes. The amount of the embedded information is enough to en-crypt using strong encryption algorithms (AES or other) what makes the document impossible to manipulate.
Digital-IDP is suitable for similar documents to IDP (birth-, death-, marriage-certificates, land and vehicle ownership certificates, university diplomas, notary documents, gov-ernment documents with restricted circulation, contracts, legal documents, etc.).Printing Digital-IDP is similar to IDP (optimal with laser printers – black & white or color – and it also works with ink-jet printers).
Digital-IDPverificationFor verification a desktop scanner and a reading software is required.

lens-readableIDPvs.Digital-IDP• Verification of normal – lens-readable – IDP is simple
and fast.• Digital information can be encrypted by the customer,
which provides higher level of security.
Digital-IDPvs.2D-barcodes• It is difficult to find and tamper the Digital-IDP.• Digital-IDP can be in background elements. Covering
text does not disturb the feature. Therefore no need for dedicated space for the Digital-IDP.
• 2D-barcodes are not esthetic and are easy to locate them.
• Digital-IDP is not a widely-used standard technology, the forger has no information how it works.
• Digital-IDP is a printer-dependent feature. It requires a high-resolution printer with the appropriate settings.
