Odisha government inks MoU on disaster management, farmers’ welfare With focus on two issues bothering the State - disaster management and farmers’ welfare - the State Government on Friday signed two MoUs. With focus on two issues bothering the State - disaster management and farmers’ welfare - the State Government on Friday signed two MoUs.For disaster management, the Government entered into an agreement with Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) to integrate new generation digital algorithm-based technologies and best practices from 48 RIMES member countries of Asia, Africa and the Pacific with Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA). Managing Director, OSDMA, Bishnupada Sethi signed the pact with AR Subbiah from RIMES in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Initially, the agreement will be in force for five years and around `8 crore will be spent. “We have taken up various initiatives for strengthening the early warning systems by implementing latest technologies and building partnerships with international agencies. Our objective is to ensure zero casualty for all disasters,” Sethi said.Among others, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty and Chief Secretary AP Padhi were present. In another development, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment in collaboration with Jindal Stainless Limited and social enterprise Gram Unnati Foundation will implement a unique project to help farmers double their income.Gram Unnati will conduct the baseline survey at each selected location, design a customised intervention plan and identify relevant partners. It will also be responsible for implementing the project by conducting timely training of farmers, providing them access to quality inputs and developing market linkages for produce. Initially it will be implemented for two lakh farmers from across nine districts for three years.The MoU for this was signed by Director of Agriculture and Food Production M Muthu Kumar, JSL unit head Mohan Lal and Aneesh Jain from GUF signed an MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday. Chairperson of Jindal Stainless Foundation Deepika Jindal said doubling farmers’ income is an ambitious Government programme which will immensely benefit farmers in increasing their productivity and earnings.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik prsented at signing of MoU between Odisha Government and Jindal Stainless Limited. The Agriculture and Famers’ Empowerment on Friday signed an MoU with the Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) to develop a system to help farmers double their income. This system would reach 2 lakh farmers across nine districts in three years. The JSL would provide financial support to farmers as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the programme would be implemented by the Gram Unnati, a social enterprise. The MoU was signed by Agriculture and Food Production Director Dr M Muthu kumar and JSL head Mohan Lal and Gram Unnati’s Aneesh Jain in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here. The nine districts are Angul, Baleswar, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khordha and Puri. Based on the success in these nine districts, the system would be introduced in all other districts. The State Government would set up a State-level Advisory Committee and district-level Guidance Committees comprising relevant stakeholders to guide, assist and monitor the field deployment and impact of the system.

Odisha govt signs three MoUs for farmers’ empowerment Odisha government on Friday signed three Memoranda with three different organizations for the empowerment of farmers in the state. Director of Department of Agriculture and farmers Empowerment M Muthukumar signed the agreement with Foundation of Ecological security, National Innovation Foundation and jindal Stainless limited (JSL) and Gram Unnati Foundation (GUF) in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Minister Pradip Maharathy, Revenue and Disaster Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Chief Secretary A P Padhi and other senior officers were present. The objective of the MoU signed with JSL and GUF is to develop a system by establishing a joint intervention called ‘’Doubling Farmers income in Odisha intervention. The scheme is to reach two lakh small and marginal farmers in next three years in nine districts—Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khordha and Puri. If succeeded it would be implemented across the state and set up the overall ecosystem to substantially double the income of the farmers. In the programme various agricultural value chains like vegetables, paddy, groundnut, pulses and milk will be identified which are relevant to that local conditions and will be focused on developing those. Under the programme post harvest infrastructure including dry warehouses, cold storages, collection and primary processing centres to farmers associated with the intervention so that farmers can be benefitted. The MoU with the Foundation for Ecological Security was signed with the objective to build capacities of various stake holders for promotion of ecological sound agriculture practices and water management in all the districts by managing natural resources through software. The duration of the agreement is for two years—from June 2018 to June 2020 and would cover all districts in the state. As per the agreement with NIF competitions will be organized for innovations done by farmers and agricultural workers for small implements used in agriculture which will ease work of farmers as well as reduce drudgery of women in farmers. The duration of the agreement is for three years and would over all districts of the state. As per the agreement systematic scouting and documentation of grass root innovation would be done, competitions would be organized and facilitating viable innovations and show casing potential grass root innovation at national platforms would be organised.

Odisha Govt Signs Three MoUs To Empower Farmers The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment signed three MoUs with different organizations to upscale productivity and farmers income in the State. Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) and Gram Unnati Foundation (GUF): The JSL and GUF will develop a system in agriculture sector in the State by establishing a joint intervention called – ‘Doubling Farmers Income in Odisha’ This aims at reaching two lakh small and marginal farmers in the next three years in nine districts of Odisha.The beneficiary districts are - Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda and Puri. Based on the success of these nine districts, the system can be further scaled up across the State and net up the overall ecosystem to sustainably double the income of the farmers.In this programme various agricultural value chains like vegetables, paddy, groundnut, will be identified which are relevant to the local conditions and will be focused on developing those.The programme will provide the post harvest infrastructure including dry warehouses, cold storages, collection and primary processing centers, close to farmers associated with the intervention, so that farmers can be benefitted through improved price realiasation with intervention and infrastructure. Foundation for Ecological Security (FES): To build capacities of various stake holders for Promotion of Ecological Sound Agriculture Practices and water management in all the districts in the State, by managing natural resources.The process will focus mainly on restoring the common lands and water bodies through village institution and local federation. The activity will be carried out with the help of a softwarre - composite landscape assessment & restoration tool (CLART). By this capacity building of the field functionaries such as VAW and farmers will be enhanced for crop water budgeting. National Innovation Foundation- India (NIF) for Mukhya Mantri Abhinav Krushi Jantrapati Samman: With this MoU competitions will be organized for innovations done by famers and agricultural workers for small implements (manual/bullock drawn/power-less than 2HP) used in agriculture, which will, ease work of farmers as well as reduce drudgery of women in farming.The innovations can be in agriculture implements/ equipment's for farm/non-farm operations, post harvest equipments, or any other low cost sustainable green technology.National Innovation Foundation- India (NIF) will share it's know how in process of scouting, preliminary screening of all scouted entries, selection of innovative entries for award, documentation of innovations and file for Patent, wherever required.
