20,500 views as of Wednesday.A statement released by

Wynne Communications on behalf of Knight said, “The quotes were taken out of con-text and not meant to disparage Catholics. The comments were meant to draw attention to the abuses and subsequent cover-ups of the Catholic Church and not intended to criticize any individuals of any persuasion.”

“JZ Knight has always sup-ported the rights of the LGBT community including marriage equality and legal benefits.”

The Freedom Foundation, a libertarian think-tank, released two more videos this week. Neither appears as edited as the first.

Glen Morgan of the founda-tion said copies of the videos were sent to him after he posted !"#$%&"%'"()*"+%,'-!(.%'/0"1*#-site about Knight.

In three videos posted by the foundation, Knight says, “The invasion of the Mexicans who just breed like rabbits. They are poison”; “All gay men were once Catholic women;” and “I have yet to meet a really great-looking organic gardener. They have rotting teeth, have a lot of frowns on their face, they need a whole face lift.”

Andrea McNeely, a lawyer hired by RSE, said the school supports freedom of speech. But, when members of the school attend events at RSE, they are asked to sign agree-ments not to “use, reproduce, copy, or disseminate materials from the school, including video recordings, without permission of the school.”

McNeely said Wednesday that Virginia Coverdale, a for-mer RSE student who posted some of the videos, signed such a contract in 2006 and 2007.

McNeely said notice was pro-vided via email to Coverdale, and people working with her,

that posting the videos violates that contract. She said Coverdale replied asking for a copy of the contract and that a copy was sent to her.

McNeely said Coverdale -.-'/(" 2*03%'-" (%" 2*4,*0(0" (%"take down the videos and that additional video posts were attempted.

She said the court complaint is against Coverdale.

McNeely said the judge will be asked to make a preliminary decision to “preserve the status quo” by asking for the remov-al of any videos of Ramtha or Knight currently posted.56(/0"'%("()*"3%$.(.7!$"8*00!&-

She said the video was pri-vately streamed online so that only RSE students could access it and added that the school is investigating how former students gained access to, and recorded, the videos.

On Sunday, state Senate can-

didate Bruce Lachney issued a press release saying he is donating money his campaign received from Knight to educa-tional scholarships.

Knight and RSE donated a (%(!$" %+" ?@9ABB" (%" C!7)'*=/0"campaign.

“I met Ms. Knight only once,” Lachney said in his state-ment. “Her thoughts and beliefs are her own. As a member of the same Lutheran Church for more than 20 years I find the language and tenor of her discourse dis-turbing.”

Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero said Tuesday she will donate money she received from Knight to two local charities. She also plans to refuse any contributions from Knight in the future.

Romero initially said she 1%,$-'/(" 2*(,2'" ()*" 8%'*="saying the initial video was “spliced.”

“At this point, I see no reason to return money based on a call by the Republican Party and a doctored video,” Romero told the Nisqually Valley News last Friday.6'" <,*0-!=/0" 0(!(*8*'(9"

Romero said she viewed addi-tional videos of Knight that she found “highly offensive.”

“Yesterday evening I watched an exceptionally disturbing video containing highly offen-sive comments made by JZ Knight, a campaign contribu-tor, whose comments are grossly disparaging of a large portion of the people who live in Thurston County,” Romero said. “Unlike the other videos that were heav-ily edited, spliced and taken out of context, this most recent one appeared to be undoctored.”

“I am appalled by Ms. D'.&)(/0" %,(2!&*%,0" !'(.EF*G.-can, anti-Catholic raging. These vile, racist, and divisive com-ments against responsible and caring people have no place in Thurston County, or anywhere else.”

“… these hateful com-ments are the complete oppo-site of everything I stand for. I denounce them. I condemn them,” said Romero.

Congressional candidate Denny Heck is also giving away $3,500 his campaign received from Knight to charity.

The state Democratic Party announced it would donate half of the contributions it received from Knight to the campaign for Referendum 74, which would legalize gay marriage, and half to the Anti-Defamation League. Each organization received $35,000.

On Tuesday, the Washington State Republican Party released a statement criticizing the state H*8%72!(.7"I!2(=/0"2*(,2'"%+"()*"donations from Knight, saying the donation was added to the 3!2(=/0" )!2-" -%$$!29" '%'E*G*83("account.

been friends since the 1980s. Their interest in herbs and botanicals led to creation of a business together.

From botanicals, they started making salves to treat every-thing from toenail fungus to warts.

The company sold xylitol by itself. Three years ago, the pair decided to try making xylitol-sweetened candy.

They noticed most of the xylitol candies and mints already on the market contained many additives, Vines-Haines said.

Some xylitol is made from genetically-modified corn. Clary said the xylitol used in Ice Chips is only made from birch wood.

“From the moment we had the candy, people wanted to buy it,” Vines-Haines said.

Ice Chips now come in 18 different flavors. Each day, approximately 2,000 tins of the candy are shipped from Yelm.

They expanded one store at a time. The expansion grew more rapidly when they brought on salesman Fred Larkins.

Page 8: Coverage of JZK, Inc. v. Coverdale

In fact, Coverdale said, Knight is the one who behaved as a woman scorned after she discovered the affair.

Coverdale said she was kicked out of RSE and tensions between her and Flick erupted because he continued attending the school, even as Coverdale was allegedly ridiculed and crit-icized during sessions.

That, she said, is what led to the end of the relationship.

Flick did not return calls from the Nisqually Valley News for comment.

CHANNELER SCORNED?

!"# $%&# '()*+",&# %--.*./#behavior — not the end of the relationship — that caused the most distress, claims Coverdale.

In a packed arena at RSE, she says Knight, as Ramtha, called her a “whore.”

“I was left fairly devastated, but not about so much James Flick — that was a mutual part-ing of ways.”012# 345&."(.&&,# $%&# "+.#

smear campaign against me, with my friends in my com-munity, in my place of spiritu-ality.”

“That is what was so unnerv-ing to me and that was what sent me into kind of a depres-sion for a little while.”

Initially, she looked at being an outcast as a “test from Ramtha for me — to be able to be smeared by the community and still persevere.”

That, however, is around the time she began having misgiv-ings about RSE.

RSE Legal Affairs Manager Mike Wright said he has no )(6789%")7(# %:74"# ;7<.8/%-.,&#%--.*%")7(&# 76# '()*+",&# :.+%<-ior toward her.0!#+%<.(,"#&..(#=;7<.8/%-.,&>#

POLITICAL PLAY?

In his written statement, Champagne alleged his sis-ter told him and other family members she was working on ?(/8.$# @%8A)&,# B%95%)*(# 678#Thurston County commissioner.

“She said she was hoping if, she did a good job helping him get elected, he would offer her a job after the election,” Champagne said.

“When we saw the videos she posted on YouTube and distributed to state and local officials, we were shocked and sickened but we were not sur-prised.”

“I tried to convince myself

this was just dirty politics … but the videos clearly showed us that she is taking her rage against JZ and the Ramtha School to a broader audience under the guise of a political agenda.”

Coverdale denies the sugges-tion that she posted the vid-eos or volunteered for Barkis in hopes of landing a job.

“I went through eight months $)"+# %# B4-"C8.B7<.82# *8745# =7(#D%B.:77A># %(/# "+.(# 674(/# 74"#%:74"# %# B799)&&)7(.8,&# 8%B.#and then found out that those commissioners are the ones that +%<.(,"# :..(# /7)(*# %(2"+)(*#"+%"# $.,<.# %&A./# "+.9# "7# /7#$)"+#='()*+">#E#%(/#&79.+7$#that was going to get me a job?”

“They attacked Andrew Barkis with that. It was absolute nonsense.”

“He did nothing. He had nothing to do with any of it.”

SAFETY CONCERNS

Thurston County Board of

Commissioners candidates Sandra Romero and Cathy Wolfe were targets of the first YouTube video, Coverdale said, because of what she perceived to be their inaction over code violations at RSE.

“I knew Romero and Wolfe A(.$F#:.B%4&.#$.,<.#:..(#".---)(*#"+.9#678#2.%8&#$+%",&#:..(#going on over there, and I know "+.2#/)/(,"#A(7$#%:74"#"+.#:)*-oted comments,” she said.

“The politicians took over with this video,” she said. “My personal agenda has only ever been, for the last eight months, to expose JZ Knight.”

“Politics is a secondary inter-est. It is not what drove me.”

Coverdale said she attended commissioner meetings to alert the board to what she consid-ered safety concerns at RSE.

Thurston County Board of Commissioners minutes confirm Coverdale addressed the board Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 9, 2012.

On Sept. 25, she “reported on a 2009 Special Use permit of JZ Knight and the complex she believed was out of compli-ance.”

The minutes also noted Mike Kain, county environmental services manager, reported there were complaints regard-ing the school in 2008, 2009 and 2012.

The county investigated those complaints and the minor violations were corrected, he said.

COMPLAINTS

Wright acknowledges Coverdale and other former RSE students have made com-plaints about the school to vari-ous agencies.

“They began to develop $+%"#!#B%--#"+.)8#3"+.782,#"+%"#GH#Knight has corrupted all of the local officials, because the only answers that they were getting from the county and the state officials was that our organiza-tion is in full compliance,” he said.

Wright said he believes it was dissatisfaction with the response from the county com-missioners that led Coverdale and members of Enlighten Me

Free — a group comprised of former RSE students — to seek other ways of voicing their con-cerns about the school.

“It was at that time that they began to somehow use video materials that they had acquired without our permission — either from students who were aligned with them or by people who had gained access to our private Internet stream events — and they began to produce their YouTube videos … as part of the campaign to expose what they thought was corruption amongst the candidates on the Democratic side and the undue and inappropriate influence of JZ Knight, none of which "+.2,<.#:..(#%:-.# "7#/7B49.("#any evidence of. They just have their allegations.”

Wright said RSE has been tolerant of criticism of the school and only took legal action after discovering the posting of unauthorized RSE material on YouTube.

NO GAG ORDER

Wright said he questions the suggestion that controver-sial Knight videos posted had anything to do with “whistle-blowing.”

“There was nothing in those excerpts that had anything to do with safety or code or law or tax issues.”

“They had tried all those approaches with all those authorities and gotten no results from the authorities and then they tried another tactic and another weapon.”0?(/#"+%",&#$+%"#"+.#B%&.#)&#

down our gag orders or their First Amendment, whistle-blower rights,” Wright said.

CONTRACT

Coverdale said she takes issue with the lawsuit over the videos she posted online.

At the heart of the lawsuit is a contract Coverdale admit-tedly signed while a student at the school.

In signing the contract, Knight attorneys told a Thurston

County judge, Coverdale agreed to not distribute materials she received from the school.

Virginia Coverdale says her intent in taking on Ramtha School of Enlightenment and its founder JZ Knight are focused on safety issues related to the large number of people who convene at RSE, shown here in this aerial photo taken in 2008. Coverdale said she repeat-edly expressed her concerns to the Thurston County Board of Commissioners, but to no avail.

Two of the prowls were reported at housing develop-ments behind Safeway near Umtanum Street Southeast and Birkland Street Southeast. Another was reported in the housing development near the Yelm Fire Department off Mill Road Southeast, he said.

Police do not have any sus-pects, he said.

The Grinch may have stolen Christmas, but Yelm Cinemas and Yelm Midday Lions Club are offering an opportunity to give it back.

Yelm police are investigating damage to Yelm City Park that took place after Christmas in the Park on Saturday.

Yelm Police Chief Todd Stancil said he estimates someone caused more than

$1,000 worth of damage to holiday deco-rations.

That means suspects could be charged with felony vandalism, he said.

Stancil said police have video footage of a male who is approximately 18 or 19 years old wearing a plaid flannel jacket climbing onto the roof of the kitchen

building in the park. Stancil said a witness who claims he

saw the suspect in the park earlier that day potentially identified the suspect as “Devon,” but said he was unsure of the &:$;;"#<'-#0'0"0'#(*'+-2$'*+$'&8&:$7*.&';-&*'name.

The Freedom Foundation is contesting the subpoenas, argu-ing that it is protected under laws protecting journalists from compelled disclosure and pro-tecting freedom of assembly.

In early-October, Coverdale posted a video to YouTube showing Knight — purport-edly channeling Ramtha, a 35,000-year-old spirit — dispar-aging Catholics, gays and Jews.!"#$%&'()*+,-#.) /0-1&#2"() /0*-

resentative and her supporters pointed out that the video was very edited and set to ominous music.

Those claims led to the release of additional videos of Knight, seemingly with little editing.

In them, Knight makes highly offensive remarks about Mexicans, organic farmers, Catholics and homosexuals.

The Freedom Foundation posted additional videos of Knight it received from former RSE members on its YouTube account and website.

Lawyers for JZK, Inc. filed a preliminary injunction order last Friday that Dixon had ordered at a Nov. 14 hearing.

The preliminary injunction order says: “Defendants, their agents, employees, attorneys, and all persons in concert with them are immediately enjoined from copying, reproducing, preparing adaptations, publicly distributing, publicly perform-ing, publicly displaying or oth-erwise disseminating (includ-ing without limitation Internet postings)” RSE information or materials.

The order also clarified that the previous order granting a temporary restraining order prohibits the defendants from continuing to display or dis-seminate RSE materials, and requires any videos or material from the school currently on any website or other forum to be immediately removed.

The order also prohibits the defendants and people associ-ated with them from “assisting in or facilitating the copying,

reproducing, preparing adap-tations, publicly distributing, publicly performing, publicly displaying or otherwise dissem-inating (including without limi-tation Internet postings)” RSE materials.

The order also requires defendants to “preserve, pro-tect, and maintain all hard cop-ies and electronic data reflect-ing all communications and records of any kind relating &2) &%0) 1--0$1&#2"() #") 3-1#"&#44'()Complaint.”5%16")70681"9):2;0/<1-0'()

Michele Earl-Hubbard, the attorney representing The Freedom Foundation and Morgan, filed a motion to quash

the subpoenas. She said her clients are pro-

Earl-Hubbard represented the Nisqually Valley News in 2005 in a case of attempted prior restraint by former Roy Councilwoman Anja Alston. Alston paid the newspaper $22,000 to settle that case.

Dixon will consider the motion in a hearing on Friday.F1/-@G+,,1/<).#&0<)&%0)(&1&0'()

There are exceptions in the law that allow a court to compel disclosure of news or informa-tion in certain circumstances.

He said Morgan and The Freedom Foundation are prob-ably one of many people that will be deposed during the dis-covery process of the trial.

He said it appears from writ-ings Morgan has made on The M/00<28) M2+"<1&#2"'() 60,(#&0)that he has “been involved” with people associated with JZ Knight and RSE and that he may have information pertinent to the case.

Schafer said the bear was approximately 5-feet tall. It rummaged through her trash for about 60-90 minutes before leaving.
