Sharing a lifetime is something ancient like some of our natural stones. Coming together multiple times a day around the fire or centerpiece at home for sharing, bonding, consuming,… Activities which individuals respond emotionally to. Roots of HAVANI

With the assistance of family, friends, and partners, Frédéric Haven gave birth to a vision and established the Havani furniture brand.

After a decade of selling emotionally approached products, Frédéric participated in his father’s consultancy firm – Frenico International BVBA – that’s mainly experienced in the carpet- and natural stone in-dustry, where he learned how companies start-up, grow and/or strate-gically transform with the support of the Flemish government (Vlaio).

He invested in a longterm Management Course at the Vlerick Business School and found an opportunity to create his own brand of emotional-ly approached products: Havani.

Luxurious YET USEABLE

Natural stone shows almost endless varieties but at Havani we tend to focus on exotic yet practical selections. Meaning the colours and/or unique surfaces are luxurious while still offering usability. Most granites and quartzites have proper characteristics for tabletop usage but thanks to modern nano technology and Havani’s select partnerships with com-bined centuries of expertise, customers can also enjoy real marble tops. SCRATCHFREE and hot

Sintered stone is so hard that it outperforms almost anything. It’s con-sidered to be scratchfree in all but polished finishes, with a few excep-tions such as diamonds or ceramic knives.

On top of that the material can withstand contact up to 800 degrees celcius. As a result customers can place hot pots on their table. (more info materials -> Sintered Stone)

Next to impregnating natural stone tops with recent nanotechnology based products, Havani delights customers with innovation thanks to modern waterjet cutting and optionally offers uniquely finished edges on all floating tops.

PRECISION Engineering

Havani designs are built to be solid and durable, that means strength and stability are key aspects in the engineering processes. Progressively, all forms, lines and volumes of the designs, have to end up with struc-tural purpose next to the aesthetic value. On top of that lots of elements have to be dismountable because narrow access spaces cannot prevent customers from wanting Havani furniture.

HAVANI Materials

MARBLE

The most attractive designing stone thanks to a swirl of gorgeous visible details, veins and colour varieties. Mineral ‘impurities’ that used to be just grains or layers in the earth, mobilized and recrystallized over the course of millions of years.Marble is not a scientific word, it originates from the ancient Greek verb “Marmairo”, meaning “to shine”. In reality, marble is a hard crystalline metamorphic form of limestone.

Ha v a n i ’ s m a r b l e m e t h o d o l o g y :

1. OLD BUT STRONG Only hard marbles are selected at Havani because their structure offers greater compactness and less porosity, making them more suitable for furniture tops. These are rocks that are approximately over 200 million years old.

2. WHITE AND BEIGE. We avoid dark limestones for indoor usage because the stone’s inside colour often differs from the surface colour in terms of darkness, making scratches immediately visible as well as lime attack stains that transform into a lighter colour than the surface.

3. ZERO POLISHED We don’t offer polished surfaces on marble because one, the polish will fade. Two, the product to impregnate the rock that must protect it cannot enter the pores fluently and three, marble already shines and will gain more ‘satin gloss’ over time due to the patination effect.

4. FEEL ME Havani also offers unique ‘slightly rough’ surface finishes, making marble even more usable because scratches and lime attacks become as good as invisible. A unique feel me texture also adds a very stylish character to the design and an increased urge to touch it.

5. NANOTECH Recent implemented nanotechnology in impregnation products now also protect marble of discolouring due to the exposure of acids. Products were already water and fat repellent in the past but the possible outcome of yellow, orange or pink stains used to be a much bigger concern than they are today.

We conducted tests with red wine stains for 24 hours on white Carrara marble in honed surface finish and the results were clear: no visible discoloration whatsoever, but only when looking in the flood light a ‘matt zone’ remains on the honed surface. Over time patination will clear matt zones on honed surfaces but with a Havani feel me texture, they are practically invisible.

GRANITE

Quarried on all continents and transported over the seven seas, granite has been used as a building and ornamental stone for centuries and is regarded as a symbol for strength and durability. Granite is an igneous natural rock (derived from the Latin word “ignis” meaning fire) that is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma deep under the earth’s crust. Granite is a very strong natural stone and is scratch and stain resistant in all finishes, making it suitable for furniture tops.

QUARTZITE

A natural stone mainly existing of the mineral Quartz. Because of the hardness of quartzite and the relatively low erosion-sen-sitivity, layers of quartzite can shape competent ledges in the earth’s landscape.

Although there are many different types of quartzites, Havani only selects appropriate quartzites for both usability and dura-bility purposes. These quartzites are very strong and have a very high scratch and stain resistancy in all finishes.

SINTERED STONE

Sintered stone is not an actual stone. It exists of minerals and particles that became subject to extreme heat and pressure, permanently bonding the material together without the need of resins or bonding agents. Sintered stone is so hard that it outperforms almost anything. It’s considered to be scratchfree in all but polished finishes, with a few exceptions such as diamonds or ceramic knives.

Even with unique feel-me textures, the designs are sort of ‘prin-ted’ on the surface, therefore often won’t have the same colours and patterns inside of the mass.

Sintered stone can withstand contact with temperatures up to 800°C. Hot pots can be placed on tops without issues.

ENGINEERED QUARTZ

Engineered Quartz is a composite material made of crushed quartz bound together by an adhesive. The mixture of approxi-mately 93% stone is heated and compressed under vacuum in a large press and vibrations helped to compact the mixture, resulting in an isotropic slab with virtually no porosity.

Engineered Quartz is scratch and stain resistant in all finishes. Indoor usage only.

HARDWOOD

Hardwood has excellent qualities for developing furniture. It’s resistant to insect and fungal attacks but also shows very appe-aling grain markings. Today Havani works with European Oak for interior usage and African Iroko tropical hardwood for exterior usage.

Note that minor shrinking and swelling can occur on massive hardwood tops. The wood changes moisture content in res-ponse to daily as well as seasonal changes in the relative humi-dity of the atmosphere. Outdoors, wood will gradually become more rough and turn grey as a consequence of exposure to sunlight and rain. Minor cracks and crevices can also appear as part of this process.

STRUCTURED POWDER-COATED STEEL

Powder-coating is a technique where dry powdered paint is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the object to then melt in an oven and coalesce into a continuous film that covers the object.

HOT-DIP STEEL GALVANIZATION

Immersing all Havani metal elements in a bath of molten zinc at a termperature of around 450 ²C, results in a grey crystallization patterning layer on the surface, that acts as a barrier between steel and the atmosphere. Hot-dip galvanization, offers a superi-or life-cycle in many circumstances.

CORTEN STEEL / WEATHERING STEEL

Developed to eliminate the need for painting and form a stable rust-like appearance after several years exposure to weather. The corrosion-retarding effect of the organically formed protective layer is produced by the particular distribution and concentration of alloying elements in it. The layer protecting the surface develops and regenerates continuously when subjec-ted to the influence of the weather. In other words, the steel is allowed to rust in order to form the protective coating.

Because of its inherent toughness, this steel offers exceptional mechanical resistance as well as incredible durability.

The surface oxidation of weathering steel takes approximately six months to one year but surface treatments can accelerate the oxidation to as little as two hours.

Only available in strip-mill plate and sheet forms, which are key ingredients in Havani’s frame designs.

Outdoor usage only in combination with a black granite top.

Forged from electrostaticly painted massive steel or authentic Corten steel, Marcello has the perfect shoulders to carry a soulmate in style. A handpicked and uniquely finished stone or wooden table top.

During its development, the limits of technology and materials were properly challenged and in many ways the engineering boundaries were pushed, bent and finally beaten.

The persistence and tenacity to develop these ‘shoulders’, reminded us of a typical sleeveless shirt that is called “Marcelleke”. Originating from a former World Boxing Champion Marcel Cerdan, who cut off the sleeves of his sporting outfit because of extensive sweating.

Butterfly drawings were first found on a 3000 year-old tomb wall in Egypt. Havani honors this ancient form in modern times with the Pap-illon dining table, that beautifully conveys the stylised outlines of aerial butterfly wings in its fabulous table legs.
