The NFL, its clubs, players, the NFL Players Association and the American Cancer Society are committed to saving lives from breast cancer, and addressing the unequal burden of cancer in underserved communities. The league-wide campaign, “A Crucial Catch,” in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are 50 and older. Throughout October, NFL games have featured players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel, as well as additional on-field and in-stadium branding – all to help raise awareness for this important campaign. Much of the apparel worn at games by players and coaches, along with special game balls and pink coins will be auctioned off at http://www.nflauction.nfl.com/iSynApp/showHomePage.action?sid=1100783, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Advocates implementing Nationwide Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE) program. Locally, the Chiefs have been raising awareness during October and will celebrate the “A Crucial Catch” during Sunday’s game through a number of ways. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Chiefs President Mark Donovan and members of the team’s wide receiver corps joined The University of Kansas Hospital and the American Cancer Society to host the second annual Look Good Feel Better session for individuals fighting cancer. At Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams, the Chiefs will host their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game presented by Hy-Vee and The University of Kansas Hospital. One hundred breast cancer survivors and honorees will participate in various on-field pregame festivities and recognitions. The Chiefs Women’s Organization will be on site outside the Arrowhead Stadium gates distributing limited-edition EyeBlack with “A Crucial Catch” messaging. The CWO is again joined by volunteers from ZTA, who will hand out special pink ribbons to fans. Additionally, the team will recognize one honoree who is a breast cancer survivor, caregiver or has furthered the cause of breast cancer awareness at the game. The individual will sit in a sole pink seat inside Arrowhead Stadium. To cap the Breast Cancer Awareness Game, the team will hold a silent auction for items, including a number pieces of game-worn equipment and specially autographed pink merchandise. All proceeds from the silent auction will go to support The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
