Course for absolute beginners
Step by Step I
This course is designed for English-speaking
beginners in Russian. It provides students with a
primary knowledge of Russian. Students will
learn the basics of Russian grammar, read
uncomplicated texts, learn to understand and to
use simple everyday language.

Elementary level
Step by Step II This course is designed to help students to
develop their speech habits. The overall aim
of the course is to acquire vocabulary for
everyday communication and to develop
students’ oral and writing skills. It also
provides a basic knowledge of Russian
grammar. In addition, during the course
students will get familiar with Russian culture,
customs and traditions.

Pre-Intermediate level
A Pre-Intermediate Course
in Russian This is the continuation course of Step by
Step II and it is meant for the students who
have studied Russian for two semesters
previously. We will read and translate
different texts (including dialogues). There will
be discussions and exercises for integrating
vocabulary into various communication
situations. Grammar will be revised.

Russian in Cultural Context
The aim of the course is to provide students
with knowledge of Russian culture and
Russian language, and to improve their oral
and writing skills. The main emphasis of the
course is on developing conversational skills.

Intermediate level Russian Language for Careers
on International Arena I The course is designed for the master’s-degree
students of the EuroCollege of University of Tartu as
well as for the students of Political Science, Economics
and Culturology. Course topics are about international
relations, political, economical and cultural cooperation
between Russia and EU countries. Students will read,
listen and discuss texts from the Russian media, will
develop their oral and written skills. Various
assignments will help to extend students’ vocabulary
and perfect the grammar skills.

For successful preparation and testing the
Language Centre offers special training. The
courses consist of computer-based self-study
training (75% of the course is in the Moodle
environment) and contact lessons in the
classroom with the tutor.
