IRELANDLandscapes, medieval cities, cosy pubs and traditional music, the place, the people… are only a few of the many reasons to live and study in Ireland. Centuries of history and cultural traditions, coupled with vast landscapes characterized by green grasslands and rugged cliffs combined with modern infastructure, make Ireland a wonderful place of discovery.

GALWAYEuropean Capital Of Culture 2020Known as the cultural capital of Ireland, Galway is a charming, lively city on the west coast of Ireland. Galway city is a labyrinth of small, winding streets lined with shops, bakeries, traditional pubs and weekend markets. The city is renowned for its legendary festivals and nightlife, not to mention its proximity to the stunning Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher!
DUBLINCity Of LiteratureDublin’s cultural life is rich and varied and with one of the youngest populations of Europe’s major cities, it offers an especially vibrant and friendly atmosphere for students. Dublin has it all: a charming mix of medieval, Georgian and modern architecture, a wealth of history and culture, a legendary literary tradition and particularly lively nightlife.
atlanticlanguage.com 6 | Specialised Course Academic Writing
ObjectivesThe purpose of the Erasmus Plus course on Academic Writing in Ireland is to foster the advancement of English skills for academic purposes among participants. In the contemporary world, the ‘publish or perish’ academic culture means that it is crucial for academics to use language at an advanced level for the purpose of scientific publication (Scopus®, Web of ScienceTM, etc.) and the preparation of advanced grant proposals (Fulbright, etc.). The course examines conventions in academic writing, and provides classroom input as well as individual writing feedback.
Dr. phil. Sven Stadtmüller, Germany
“I attended two courses at Atlantic last
year and they were splendid. I learned a
lot about how to present my research
results in English in publications and
presentations so now I feel much more
comfortable in doing this. The lessons
were perfectly structured and we received
plenty of helpful material. Finally, our
teachers really did a great job as well!”Who is it for? Scientists, researchers, PhD candidates and other academic staff who wish to improve their academic publication skills and move higher in citation indexing

ObjectivesThe Erasmus Plus course on CLIL Methodology for Third Level focuses on the development of lesson facilitation where the dual targets of content and language are being simultaneously pursued. At third level, the language of the individual subjects is quite specific, so it is necessary to develop ways to promote the learning and accurate use of content-obligatory vocabulary in contexts that also primarily allow for content acquisition. Sessions in this course will focus on scaffolding lessons, increasing communicative interaction among students, setting collaborative tasks, introducing target language and content, promoting enquiry-based learning, providing support for the learners, assessment in CLIL courses, and all the other aspects of the CLIL approach.

ObjectivesThe CLIL Methodology for Second Level course introduces a variety of approaches subject teachers can adopt when working in a bilingual context. Participating teachers will develop a thorough understanding of the CLIL approach by experiencing firsthand what it is like to learn new content in the CLIL way. In targeted sessions, participants will then learn how to scaffold lessons, harness communicative classroom interaction and set collaborative tasks that empower learners to learn target language and target content in tandem.

“I was fortunate to take part in a one-week course for English teachers offered by Atlantic Language Galway in
the framework of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training in December 2016. Both the school’s facilities and its
excellently trained and dedicated staff created a learning environment that was highly beneficial both
professionally and personally. My goals to refresh my teaching skills were met beyond my expectations. I
especially enjoyed the friendly and inspiring atmosphere of the lessons, which I owe mainly to the tutors’
methodological preparedness, openness and sensitivity to how to work with international scholars with diverse
academic and cultural backgrounds. The city of Galway and its environs offer ample opportunities for exploring
the rich culture and natural beauty of Ireland, for socializing with counterparts and local people, and above all, for
tasting the unforgettable Irish beer, should you wish to get refreshed after the busy study hours.“Prof. Zsuzsanna
