COURSE: Algebra 8 TELEPHONE: (203) 5315700 INSTRUCTOR: Mrs. D’Elia EMAIL: lauren_d’[email protected] MATHEMATICS VISION STATEMENT: The Greenwich Public Schools Mathematics program encourages all students to reach their highest potential by developing comprehension of mathematical concepts, operations and basic skills. Algebra 8 is the foundational course for advanced mathematics and provides a complete treatment of the standard topics in Algebra I. This course is modeled after the high school Algebra I course and we administer the standard midterm and final exams from that course. COURSE REQUIREMENTS – INFORMATION 1. Materials Required: Threering binder (at least 2”), looseleaf paper, graphing calculator, #2 pencils, erasers, correcting pens (red, green, purple, etc.) 2. Grading Rationale 40% Tests 30% Quizzes 20% Homework 10% C.L.A.S.S./Preparation 3. Tests: There will be a test at the completion of each unit. If you are absent the day of a test, you have one week to make up the test. Students will not be allowed to make up test during class time. Extenuating circumstances will be handled at the teacher’s discretion. No test corrections are allowed. 4. Quizzes: Quizzes may include announced quizzes, graded homework assignments, binder checks, and warmup quizzes. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped each marking period. 5. Homework: Homework will be assigned each day to review and reinforce topics, concepts, skills, and information presented during the regular daily class instruction. Show all your work for full credit. If your homework is complete you will receive full credit (regardless of errors). It will be your responsibility to ask questions about your homework and correct any errors that have been made. No late homework is accepted unless you are absent. Homework assignments will be posted daily on the white board and online. Students are responsible for writing assignments in their assignment books. 6. C.L.A.S.S. (Refer to WMS C.L.A.S.S. 7. Preparation:  All  students  are  required  to  come  to  class  PREPARED  AND  ON  TIME.  You  will  not  be  allowed  to  leave  class  to  get  any  of  your  necessary  items.    Necessary  items  include  math  binder,  pencil,  completed  homework,  and  assignment  book.  Preparation  grade  will  be  assessed  using  a  rubric.  

 8. Absences:  It  is  your  responsibility  to  make  up  any  missed  assignments  when  you  are  absent.  I  will  

help  you  catch  up  but  YOU  must  take  responsibility  to  make  certain  that  you  get  all  of  the  missed  assignments.  

 9. Extra-­Help:  Extra  help  is  available  by  appointment.    

 10. Communication:  Communication  is  vital  to  ensure  a  successful  year.  Communication  will  be  

provided  throughout  the  school  year  through  progress  reports,  report  cards,  phone  calls,  and  emails.  Please  contact  me  if  you  have  any  questions  or  concerns.  The  best  way  to  reach  me  is  via  email  (lauren_d’[email protected]  ).  

 11. All  work  should  be  done  in  pencil.  

 12. Textbook:  McDougall  Littell  Algebra  I  (2007)  Textbooks  will  be  made  available  for  use  in  school  

and  we  will  utilize  the  online  version  for  homework  assignments.  If  you  are  unable  to  access  the  online  textbook,  we  will  make  other  arrangements.  Web  Address:  www.classzone.com
