Course Description We use technology in our personal life – from personal shopping, to calling a cab, or tracking our fitness. These technologies are just the visible outcomes of a more strategic change happening in businesses and organizations. Use of Information technology exploded in the 1990s and is continuing to evolve. No industry sector is impervious to the changes happening in the technological revolution. Some industries have adopted these changes and has been better off for it. Other industries are catching up to the advantages of these emerging technologies. In this course we will explore the key emerging trends in the technology and its impact on organizations and their operations. In this course, the students will understand the meaning of technological innovation, the different types, and its relationship across other types of innovation. Students will also explore how these key principles of technological innovation are actualized by examining various business cases. The course will address three key emerging technology areas that can have a broad impact in our personal life as well as that of an organization. These include FinTech/Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of things.

Classroom Participation: As this is a discussion and case-based course, students are expected to be active participants in classroom discussions. This includes attending all classes, being prepared by having read and analyzed assignments ahead of class time, and being ready to offer analyses and insights during class discussions. Even if classes are conducted in an online only mode, students are expected to actively engage in discussions and respond to questions. Required readings are provided for lessons, where applicable. Students should be able to understand the context and critically understand the application of the technologies in specific contexts. Students should be prepared to discuss and apply concepts during class. Technical Information: No special computer hardware, software, and datasets are required for this course. Any required access to websites will be provided during the class. Access to MS Teams with working audio/video facility will be required.
Grading, Progress and Assessment This course assumes substantial and informed student participation. General discussion of theory and practice is encouraged and expected of all students. At a minimum, being informed requires class attendance, completion of assigned readings and homework, and attention to technology and financial news and world events. Class attendance and thoughtful participation are important and will be reflected in part in the final grade. Please notify the instructor of an absence before the class.
The final grade for this course will be based on continuous assessment:

2. All assignments and submissions are due before Friday 11:59pm, on the week of submission 3. Late submissions carry penalty marks, which will be decided at the time of allotting work 4. Format of submissions are specific and has to be adhered to – including flow, style, punctuations etc.
Graded Component – Class Contribution (10%) Class contribution will assess your active engagement during the semester. This can take the form of asking questions, responding to questions, initiating and participating in deliberations, and providing insights on topics through self-learning that enhances the quality of learning. Graded Component – 3 Assignments (20%) For learnings of each major component of technology, each student will submit a written paper on the topic to be assigned. They may be asked to make a short presentation in class on the same topic as well.

• Depth of content: 10 marks
• Delivery Clarity and format of presentation: 5 marks Graded Component – Group Project (30%)
Groups of 3 to 4 students will be assigned a situation related to a company or industry. Students will be required to come up with a
strategy and business plan to implement emerging technologies to solve specific issues.
The student will be graded based on:
• Draft Presentation: 5 marks
• Written Presentation Content and Formatting: 5 marks
• Strategy and Business Plan Viability: 10 marks
• Oral Presentation by the Group: 5 marks
• Individual Contribution and responses to questions: 5 marks Grade Sheet: The schema of the grade sheet may change. Students will be informed well in advance of any changes in the schema of the grade sheet.

JGU Policies and Expectations Academic Integrity and Plagiarism: Learning and knowledge production of any kind is a collaborative process. Collaboration demands an ethical responsibility to acknowledge who we have learnt from, what we have learned, and how reading and learning from others have helped us shape our own ideas. Even our own ideas demand an acknowledgement of the sources and processes through which those ideas have emerged. Thus, all ideas must be supported by citations. All ideas borrowed from articles, books, journals, magazines, case laws, statutes, photographs, films, paintings, etc., in print or online, must be credited with the original source. If the source or inspiration of your idea is a friend, a casual chat, something that you overheard, or heard being discussed at a conference or in class, even they must be duly credited. If you paraphrase or directly quote from a web source in the examination, presentation or essays, the source must be acknowledged. The university has a framework to deal with cases of plagiarism. All form of plagiarism will be taken seriously by the University and prescribed sanctions will be imposed on those who commit plagiarism. Disability Support and Accommodation Requirements: JGU endeavors to make all its courses accessible to students. All students with any known disability needing academic accommodation are required to register with the Disability Support Committee [email protected]. The Committee has so far identified the following conditions that could possibly hinder student’s overall well-being. These include physical and mobility related difficulties; visual impairment; hearing impairment; medical conditions; specific learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia; mental health. Students should preferably register with the Committee during the month of June/January as disability accommodation requires early planning. DSC will approve of and coordinate all disability related services such as appointment of academic mentors, arranging infrastructural facilities, and course related requirements such as special lectures, tutorials and examinations. Safe Space Pledge: This course may discuss a range of issues and events that might result in distress for some students. Discussions in the course might also provoke strong emotional responses. To make sure that all students collectively benefit from the course, and do not feel disturbed due to either the content of the course or the conduct of the discussions. Therefore, it is incumbent upon all within the classroom to pledge to maintain respect towards our peers. This does not mean that you need to feel restrained about what you feel and what you want to say. Conversely, this is about creating a safe space where everyone can speak and learn without inhibitions and fear. This responsibility lies not only with students, but also with the instructor.
