    2. Mechanical Properties: Introduction; Tensile strength; Compression strength; Fatigue

    strength; Creep strength; Torsion strength; Hardness Testing of material by Brinell, Rockwell

    machines,

    3.Atomic Structure: Introduction; Parts of an atom (nucleus, electrons, proton, neutron);

    Isotopes; Atomic number; Periodic table; Valiancy; Bonds (ionic, covalent, metallic & secondary

    bonds)

    4.Crystalline Structure: Introduction; Crystal - Brevais Lattices, Crystal Directions and Planes

    based on Miller Indices, Atomic Packing Factor [for Simple Cubic , Body Centered Cubic

    (BCC), Face Centered Cubic (FCC), Hexagonal Close Packed (HCP)

    5.Defect in Crystals: Point defects; Dislocations and dislocation theory, Anisotropy, Phase

    Transformations

    7.Cast Irons and Steels: Structure and properties of White Cast iron, Malleable Cast iron, grey

    cast iron, Spheroid graphite cast iron, Alloy cast irons. Classification of steels, structure and

    properties of plain carbon steels, Low alloy steels, Hadfield manganese steels, tool and die steels.

    8.Composite Materials: Thermo Plastics, Thermosetting Plastics, Elastomers, Fibers.

    Applications of Polymers. Composite Materials Advantages, Dispersion Strengthened

    Composites (Sintered Aluminum Powder (SAP), Particulate Composites (Cemented Carbides

    WC-CO), Fiber Reinforced Composites (Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP), Carbon - carbon
