Important Info for Art Students:

All art courses are semester length courses.

2D or 3D design MUST be taken before a student can progress into the Intermediate Level.

Courses must be taken in the proper – connected – order (see flowchart). No prerequisites may be skipped.

Only Juniors and Seniors may enroll in Advanced Level courses

Advanced level course can be taken multiple times junior AND senior year

Honors credit can be earned in all courses.

Advanced Level courses:

Advanced Level courses can be taken multiple times. The advanced courses have different levels build in so students can continue to progress in their chosen area.

JUNIORS may take any level course, but Juniors are required to have at least four (4) art credits before moving to any Advanced Level course.

Ideally, one would have three (3) courses from one column, and at least one from another column before they could continue. Therefore, no student would be in an Advanced Level class prior to the start of their Junior year.

Honors Credit:

Honors credit can be earned in all courses. Students wishing to earn honors credit must have a minimum 3.00 GPA and a recommendation from a teacher in a core subject area (English, Science, Social Studies, or Math). Students will be required to complete additional course work in order to earn honors credit. The additional coursework will include researching, writing, creating, and exploring materials in greater depth. Students will be required to complete challenges that will require will require written essays along with performance/presentation based products. The challenges will be tied to the areas of 6 Science, History, Math, Literature, Cultural, and Art Production. (note: Students will not be permitted to re-take a course under the honors designation if they have already taken the course.)

Students have the opportunity to discover the beauty of the classic silver gelatin print and the fun of manipulating the image with light and filters just like the masters of photography did before the world ‘went digital’. 35mm SLR film cameras will be provided for the course.
