◼ Starting in the 2020-2021 school year, Andover School District will follow a weighted GPA scale. ◼ The weighted GPA will be the only GPA noted on the
high school transcript.

ENGLISH (4 CREDITS)
◼English – one English class every year (1 credit each year)
◼Honors English- teacher approval necessary
◼Summer assignment is required and due the first week of school.
◼English Review (elective)- Do you need extra help in English? You will be placed in English Review, and it will take the place of an elective. Based off teacher recommendations and STAR assessment results.
MATH (3 CREDITS)
◼Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Honors Geometry or AMPED- You have the 8th grade teacher recommendation.
◼Algebra 1 Assist (elective)
◼ Based off teacher recommendations and state assessment results.
◼ Takes the place of one of your electives.
◼ This is for those who need the extra help from the teacher. Not for those who just want an hour to finish their homework.
AMPED
Algebra in Manufacturing Processes,
Entrepreneurship and Design
Students will complete all objectives from the traditional Algebra 1 class and will work on developing and understanding the skills necessary to thrive in the modern workplace and develop a self funded business. Students need to enroll in both Algebra and AMPED.
SCIENCE (3 CREDITS)
◼ Biology or Honors Biology◼ If students are strong in math and science, they can sign up
for both Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry. (Honors Chem is in the electives part of enrollment for you.)

◼ Students will sign up for Strings in PowerSchool during enrollment.
◼ In order for students to be placed in Intermediate and Advanced Strings, students must complete an audition. This will be done at a later time, but this is a guide for your enrollment:◼ Beginning- no experience ◼ Intermediate- at least one year of experience◼ Advanced- Suzuki Book Level of 3 of higher
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
◼ If you took the Computer Applications class in 8th grade, and passed, you may move on to a higher level computer course.
◼ You will receive .5 elective credit for your middle school course, and it will show up as a Pass on the transcript. You are still required to take a .5 credit in our building for graduation purposes.
◼ Computer Applications Test-Out Option
◼ If you passed the test with at least an 80% then you may take an upper level computer class.
◼ In either case listed above:
◼ If you would like a computer class next year, enroll in Computer Applications and tell us which class you would rather take and we will switch it in the computer.

◼ Students earn .25 credits every year for seminar
◼ Friday Seminar (40 minutes)
◼ Study hall
◼ Visit other teachers or make-up tests/labs
◼ Class presentations/meetings
ALTERNATE CHOICES
DO NOT double enroll in classes- if you pick it as your first choice, you can’t have it as an alternate.
Alternates are there in case your schedule isn’t working- pick them wisely.

SCHEDULES AND CHANGES
●Once you COMMIT, and you are CAPABLE, you CONTINUE in a class.●Students are required to fill out a form for all schedule changes. Teacher, parent, and principal signatures will be required.●Students will not be able to request a change until the second day of school. ●One opportunity to change per semester.●Schedules will be available in Powerschool in July.
