Experienced English language professionals who are considering becoming ELT trainers at primary, secondary or tertiary level Teachers with a minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in different contexts Teachers or managers who have to train teachers as part of their jobs and want to be more effective trainers and mentors Course outcomes You will have: An understanding of the professional role of the teacher educator with reference to relevant theory, standards and policies Increased understanding of how to foster quality improvements to teaching and learning Capacity to design and implement teacher training course programmes Ability to design, teach and critically evaluate teacher training and development sessions Ability to apply principles of coaching, mentoring and facilitation in giving accurate and sensitive feedback to teacher learners Capacity to use and evaluate a range of methodologies and approaches that reflect current learning and teacher education theories Opportunity for post-course dissemination of good practice to other teachers (Further) development of linguistic skills and intercultural awareness Course description Tuition (43 hours per two week course) All Bell Teacher Campus courses are delivered by our experienced team of trainers. The team includes a whole host of leading ELT experts and published educational authors. This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make the move from being a teacher to a teacher trainer. You will learn about how to plan, structure and deliver effective teacher training programmes and also explore the differences between teaching and training. The course also covers practical skills such doing teacher observations, giving effective feedback and how to establish an effective teacher development programme in your own context. You will also further develop your language skills and ability to use English in the context of teacher education. Topics covered on Becoming a Teacher Training include: Roles and skills of teacher educators Competencies in teacher education – what is ‘a good teacher’? Needs analysis Designing courses for teachers Frameworks for planning sessions for teaching teachers Approaches to lesson observation and giving Feedback skills Evaluation of teaching Materials for teaching teachers Dealing with difficult training situations Different approaches to training and continuous professional development Each Course we run is toilored by our expert tutors to the participants so content may be adapted to best suit the needs of your group. Take the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Choose to take the TKT at Bell Teacher Campus and gain an internationally recognised qualification, awarded by Cambridge English (part of the University of Cambridge). There is a small additional fee of £38 per module including postage for the certificate. Free exam preparation for the TKT is provided. 4
