Howdy!Welcome to Texas A&M University School of Law. We’re excited that you’ve chosen to become a part of our inaugural class!

At Texas A&M, you’ll be part of the premier professional degree for leaders in either Wealth Management or Risk Management—both are growing fields with employment opportunities expected to increase by 30% over the next ten years. We have designed each curricula to focus on providing practical skills and industry leading knowledge. You’ll have a blend of traditional foundational course areas and more specialized or modular courses, and you’ll find specificity to industry and career needs.

Our vision centers around providing practical knowledge and full coverage in either Wealth Management or Risk Management applicable to variety of career paths, including banking services, charitable giving, compliance, anti-money laundering, investment, retirement, tax, and estate planning. The courses, being completely online, allow working professionals the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree from a nationally recognized law school.

Our faculty are industry experts and legal scholars selected from all over the world to teach in the program. Following a normalized course path, the degree can be completed within a 6-semester framework, all while you maintain your full-time employment.

Three major themes form the core of the LL.M. or M. Jur. in both Wealth Management and Risk Management: industry expertise, flexibility, and career readiness. These themes are intertwined throughout all elements of each program.

Non-Profit LawTerri Lynn Helge | [email protected] 1 CreditThis course focuses on the laws, policies, and ideals affecting the creation, operation, and governance of nonprofit organizations, such as hospitals, universities, churches, social service charities, cultural institutions, advocacy groups, trade associations, and social clubs. Nonprofit organizations’ role in society raises complex issues that involve a variety of legal fields, including

constitutional law, trust and property law, corporate law, and tax law. Topics include obtaining tax-exempt status, restrictions on lobbying and political activity, tax on unrelated business income, eligibility for charitable contributions, state regulation of charitable solicitations, oversight of nonprofit governance, and charitable immunity.

Taxation of Business AssociationsGary Lucas | [email protected] 3 CreditsThis course examines the federal taxation of partnerships and fiscally-transparent entities such as limited liability companies (LLCs). Topics include contributions to and distributions from partnerships;

formation, operation, and liquidation; partnership operations; substantial economic effect regulations and special allocations; transfers of partnership interests; taxation of service partners; and liabilities and special basis adjustments.

Anti-Money Laundering & Bank Secrecy ActBob Munro | [email protected] 2 CreditsThis course studies legal responses to the problems of money laundering, economic crime, cyber-sabotage and terrorism financing. The course examines the USA Patriot Act and the five regulatory families of financial deposit taking institutions. Other issues covered include the BSA, the U.S. law of money laundering and asset forfeiture, OFAC, the BSA and corresponding acts for other financial institutions, CIP and CADD programs, SARs, CTRs, record maintenance, and C&D orders, qualified intermediary rules (QI), issues associated with correspondent bank accounts, and the criminal liability implications of Pasquantino for financial intermediaries.

Learn about the management of schedule, risk, and cost in a measured and rigorous manner, in order to be more efficient in the delivery of legal services.

will examine the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. The course will also cover the regulation of mutual funds, alternative investment vehicles, such as hedge funds, private equity funds and exchange-traded funds. The course also will examine the objectives of the Dodd-Frank Act; the regulations included to protect investors and consumers; the regulation of corporate governance; the reform of the Federal Reserve; the regulation of derivatives; and the risks of non-compliance.
