COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Annual Salary: $149,642 to $226,495 The appointee will receive an annual salary, commensurate with qualifications and earning history, as well as an excellent program of benefits that allows employees to choose the benefits that meet their specific needs. The package includes: Retirement Plan – New appointees will participate in a contributory defined benefit plan. Cafeteria Benefit Plan – The County funds its cafeteria plan using a tax-free contribution of an additional 14.5% to 17% of the employee’s monthly salary. Flexible Spending Accounts – In addition to tax-fee medical and dependent care spending accounts, the County contributes $75 per month to an employee’s dependent care spending account. Savings Plan (401k) – Optional tax-deferred income plan that may include a County matching contribution up to 4% of employee’s salary. THE DEPARTMENT

The County of Los Angeles Probation Department is the nation’s largest probation department. With 6,599 staff and an $909million budget, the Department is comprised of 24 field offices and two pre-trial offices, 12 residential treatment camps, and three juvenile halls.

The Probation Department continues to transform into a truly rehabilitative and restorative justice system. The community at large, and the adult probationers and juvenile offenders supervised by the professionals in the Probation Department, benefit from the rehabilitation and reintegration that the Department provides.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Deputy Director serves as executive leading one of seven bureaus within the County of Los Angeles Probation Department. Bureaus encompass pre-trial services, institutions, investigations, or supervision of adult and youth under the responsibility of the Probation Department. Deputy Directors direct bureau operations through subordinate managers.

The ideal candidate for Deputy Director will have a track record of meeting major challenges and driving cultural change in established and deep-rooted cultures. The candidate will have knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of probation based upon broad practice in the field and deep executive experience.

With demonstrated success and knowledge in establishing and maintaining a supportive and collaborative environment,, the Deputy Director will continue to creating and growing a “Los Angeles model” of a successful probation department for the field.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Extensive management experience (5+ years) in leading and directing a complex organization providing human and/or social services in fields such as the law, probation, parole, corrections, law enforcement, or social welfare.

Additional desirable qualifications:

An advanced degree in law, criminal justice, human services or a closely related field.

Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of cutting-edge, nationwide best practices in the areas of community-based treatment, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency.

Knowledge of evidence-based re-entry models, and restorative justice, and the willingness and ability to lead a transformative culture for institutional reform.

Demonstrated commitment to the Los Angeles County model for individuals in the justice system that is supportive, data driven, culturally competent and guided by research.

Ability to promote a learning environment that emphasizes staff training and professional development in areas that include, but are not limited to, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, mental health, co-occurring disorders, and abuse and trauma.

Experience creating effective partnerships with community-based organizations, members of professional staff, public officials, justice system agencies, and other partners within the probation and corrections community.

Ability to interpret and apply California legal codes and statutes relating to adult and youth offenders.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to continual improvement.
