When the Academy of Country Music (ACM) granted recent membership to the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the event was doubly significant: It recognized an expansion of the ethnic diversity taking hold in country, and it represented a full-circle moment as country was united with a group that helped build the infrastructure that made Nashville the genre’s home base.
The Fisk ensemble is featured on Rodney Atkins’ single “Caught Up in the Country,” wh ich i s at No. 25 on t he Country Airplay chart dated March 2. It represents the first top 30 appearance on the list for the Fisk group, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2021, a year before t he centennial of the first country r e c o r d i n g s e s s i o n . T h e i r contributions are particularly apparent in a breakdown section on “Caught Up in the Country,” which has Atkins singing above the voices, claps and stomps of the 16-member choir.
“I was told several times along the way that it would never work,” says Atkins.
It’s not the f irst time the Fisk singers have intersected with country. They have performed with Faith Hill and Hank Williams Jr. and have appeared on recordings by Phil Vassar,
Lee Greenwood and Shania Twain, who employed them on “God Bless the Child,” which peaked at No. 48 on Hot Country Songs in 1997.
But it’s the first time the Fisk ensemble has received a “fea-ture,” and it comes at an opportune juncture in country’s evolu-tion. Kane Brown, Darius Rucker and Jimmie Allen are current hitmakers of African-American descent. PBS profiled Char-
ley Pride in an American Masters episode that debuted Feb. 22, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum held a panel on Feb. 23 that explored the contributions of Ray Charles in conjunction with the rerelease of both volumes of his landmark 1960s albums Modern Sounds in Country Music.
“ I l i k e c o u n t r y m u s i c p er s o n a l ly,” s ay s Cr ysta l Brooks , one of the Fisk alto voices on “Caught Up in the Country.” She is heartened, she adds, “to see artists that look like me entering those spaces and to know that we’re able to go perform songs like this, merging all these different cultures.”
“Caught Up in the Country” was a direct result of a 2017 merger in which Atkins, at the urging of Curb | Word Entertainment chairman Mike Curb and CEO of

recorded music and publishing Jim Ed Norman, sang “Working On a Building” with the Fisk singers during a 2017 benefit at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Atkins knew little of the group’s history at the time, but he was overwhelmed when he walked into a rehearsal where the singers were already raising the rafters.
“I was completely blown away by the energy, the spirit,” he says. “I looked at my wife [songwriter Rose Falcon], and she had tears in her eyes. That little building, it was just lit up in there. And we left just feeling unbelievable.”
Within weeks of the Ryman appearance, THiS Music GM/partner Rusty Gaston pitched “Caught Up in the Country” to Atkins, who saw it as a song that connected the earth to the sky. The Fisk ensemble, he thought, could enhance that lyrical message.
“What the song gave to me was this feeling of the outdoors, this connection that you have with God when you’re out there,” he says. “It’s that expression, ‘Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some people go fishing and think about God.’ ”
The choir’s musical director, Fisk University associate professor of music Dr. Paul T. Kwami, agreed to the collaboration even before hearing the song because of his belief in Atkins — and because the concept fit his belief in music’s mission.
“Every culture has its unique music or language, but all of us make this world a good place as long as we can accept each other, as long as we’re willing to respect other cultures and accept them for who they are,” says Kwami. “If every culture chose to stay within a box and not branch out and even learn about other cultures, I don’t think that we would be able to express true love the way it should be expressed.”
That outreach is ingrained in the Fisk singers’ history. Fisk University was founded a year after the 13th Amendment passed in December 1865, becoming the first American college to offer a liberal arts degree to “young men and women, irrespective of color,” according to FiskJubileeSingers.org. Within five years, the institution was in financial straits, and the group began touring to raise money. It sang Negro spirituals, which were previously unfamiliar to the masses, and gave their a cappella performances in formal dress, countering the dismissive blackface format that dominated theatrical depictions at the time.
Green Book, which won the Oscar for best picture, best supporting actor and best original screenplay at the Academy Awards on Feb. 24, demonstrated how treacherous it was for a single African-American musician to tour amid segregated communities in the 1960s. The Fisk singers, whose number has always exceeded nine vocalists, represented an easier target for discrimination.
“There was no Green Book, no reference,” says Brooks. “It was just massive trekking through, trying not to get kicked off of trains. It amazes me when I think about it.”
Country music, first recorded in 1922, was considered a niche market, much like spirituals and “race records,” though it often has been referred to as “the white man’s blues.” Country and black music tracked very different routes publicly, though there was some distinct overlap, including the early presence of Deford Bailey on the Grand Ole Opry and the influence of African-American musicians who mentored at least three of country’s pioneers: Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and bluegrass founder Bill Monroe.
Both music forms are rooted in similar belief systems, working-class attitudes and a hope for a better life, whether it arrives on earth or in the hereafter: “Working On a Building” operates with the same belief in a heavenly reward as country’s foundational Carter Family song “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.” Both also speak to some form of oppression: The sense of being an outcast is obvious in the slave songs that form the Fisk canon, but it’s there, too, in every country song that seeks to defend being country.
Atkins feels that outcast nature from his own history. As an orphan who lived at the Holston United Methodist Home for Children in Knoxville, Tenn., he was adopted and returned several times before a family took him in permanently. It’s a storyline that he still struggles to overcome.
“It does get in your psyche,” he allows. “There is something that is in the back of your mind that you always wrestle with, of whether you belong. My manager has always had to tell me from time to time, ‘Look, man, you belong.’ ”
That’s the ultimate significance of the Fisk singers’ membership in the ACM and their ascent on the country chart. At a time when racist rhetoric is on the rise in America, a historically white music format is opening its arms to talent, recognizing the commonalities between two cultures and emphasizing the hope at the heart of both genres. It’s simply saying, “You belong.”
“Us being on the country music charts is amazing,” notes Fisk bass singer Allen Christian. “It just says that anything is possible.”
Dierks Bentley (second from left) visited Cumulus’ Nash campus on Feb. 22 to appear on The Ty Bentli Show. He’s shown with (from left) Bentli and co-hosts Tricia “T.J.” Jenkins and Chuck Wicks.
Morgan Wallen performed “Whiskey Glasses” in his first appearance on NBC’s Today on Feb. 21. He’s flanked by co-hosts Kathie Lee Gifford (left) and Hoda Kotb.
Jimmie Allen (left) huddled with Charley Pride during the world premiere of American Masters’ episode of Charley Pride: I’m Just Me, which debuted on PBS on Feb. 22.

BILLBOARD COUNTRY UPDATE FEBRUARY 25, 2019 | PAGE 2 OF 17
Reba McEntire unveiled nominees for the 54th annual Academy of Country Music Awards during the Feb. 20 telecast of CBS This Morning. From left: co-host Gayle King, McEntire and co-host Norah O’Donnell.
Luke Combs makes history as the first artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with his first five entries. On the list dated March 2, “Beautiful Crazy” (River House/Columbia Nashville) ascends 2-1, increasing by 7 percent to 38.8 million audience impressions in the week ending Feb. 24, according to Nielsen Music.
Written by Combs, Wyatt Durrette and Robert Williford, “Beautiful” reaches the summit in its 16th week. It matches Combs’ quickest trip to No. 1, which he first achieved with his fourth leader, “She Got the Best of Me.” The song reigned for four weeks starting in October 2018.
His debut, “Hurricane,” which led for two weeks beginning May 27, 2017, hit No. 1 in its 30th week. Follow-up “When It Rains It Pours” also dominated for two frames, beginning Nov. 4 , 2017, and reaching the apex in its 28th week. His third single, “One Number Away,” led for a week in its 24th frame (June 9, 2018).
Dating back to the Country Air play list’s January 1990 launch, Combs bests two acts that each sent their first four singles (as lead artists) to No. 1. Brooks & Dunn did so in 1991-92 with “Brand New Man,” “My Next Broken Heart,” “Neon Moon” and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Another duo, Florida Georgia Line, achieved the feat in 2012-14 with “Cruise,” “Get Your Shine On,” “Round Here” and “Stay.”
Plus, Combs achieves his second No. 1 on the airplay-, streaming- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart as “Beautiful” rises 2-1 in its 42nd week. He first topped the tally for two weeks in November-December 2017 with “Rains.”
“Beautiful” also lifts 2-1 on Country Streaming Songs to become his first No. 1 among five top 10s. The track gained by 8 percent to 11.7 million U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 21. On Country Digital Song Sales, the track rebounds 2-1 for a fourth turn at the summit (15,000 downloads sold, up 26 percent, in the week ending Feb. 21).
Combs thus simultaneously leads Billboard’s four main country song charts. He’s the first artist to do so since Kane Brown, who was the first to simultaneously top four country song surveys on Oct. 28, 2017. That week, his “What Ifs,” featuring Lauren Alaina, led Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay
and Country Streaming Songs, and “Heaven” arrived atop Country Digital Song Sales. He also ruled Top Country Albums during the same frame with his self-titled first LP.
Combs misses his own quintuple coronation by one ranking. His debut LP, This One’s for You, which has dominated Top Country Albums for 26 weeks and whose deluxe edition houses all five of his Country Airplay leaders, places at No. 2.
TOP ‘COUNTRY’ ALBUM Florida Georgia Line’s fourth studio LP, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country (Big Machine Label Group), enters Top Country Albums at No. 1, earning 50,000 equivalent album units (29,000 in traditional album sales) in its first week, ending Feb. 21.
The twosome of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard notches its fourth leader on the chart and third to debut in the penthouse. Dig Your Roots launched atop the list dated Sept. 17, 2016 (with 126,000 copies sold); Anything Goes entered at No. 1 on Nov. 1, 2014 (197,000, marking the pair’s strongest sales week to date); and first LP Here’s to the Good Times
opened on the survey dated Dec. 22, 2012, at No. 3 (63,000) and topped it on June 29, 2013, for its first of 10 weeks at No. 1. Dig Your Roots and Anything Goes led for two weeks each.
‘MAKE IT’ A TOP 10 Old Dominion scores its seventh Country Airplay top 10 as “Make It Sweet” (RCA Nashville) hops 11-10, up 4 percent to 21 million in audience. The act now boasts five No. 1s, including its last four singles prior to “Sweet.”

FOSTER, WISEMAN REMEMBEREDTwo multitalented Country Music Hall of Fame members who played an influential role in significant independent labels died just days apart within the last week.
Producer Fred Foster, who founded Monument Records in 1958 and played a role in the rise of Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Kris Kristofferson and Dolly Parton, died Feb. 20.
Artist-musician Mac Wiseman, who took over the Dot label’s California-based country operations in 1957, died Feb. 24 after working with a range of bluegrass, country and Americana acts and helping to found the Country Music Association in 1958.
Foster moved his label to Nashville in 1959 when he discovered Music City was a hospitable community. He established Fred Foster Sound Studios downtown after purchasing the building from Sun Records founder Sam Phillips. Foster would later refocus his recording work at the Monument Studios, now the Zac Brown-owned Southern Ground Studios, on 17th Avenue. He produced key titles for Kristofferson, Orbison, Ray Stevens, Grandpa Jones, Jeannie Seely and Larry Gatlin. He also received co-writing credit on Kristofferson’s “Me and Bobby McGee” after providing the title for the song.
The Monument label, which he sold to CBS (now Sony) in 1987, was stocked primarily with singer-songwriters.
“If your artist can write, you don’t have to go out and break your back searching for a hit,” he said in 2016. “Plus, I also wanted someone that was readily identifiable, that didn’t sound like anybody else.”
The Virginia-bred Wiseman played in bands with traditional country singer Molly O’Day and bluegrass founder Bill Monroe before scoring his own solo recording deal with Dot, snaring top 10 country singles with “The Ballad of Davey Crockett” and “Jimmy Brown the Newsboy.” During his tenure as a Dot executive, the roster included Cowboy Copas, Bonnie Guitar, Jimmy C. Newman and bluegrass duo Reno & Smiley.
Wiseman managed the Wheeling, W.Va.-based WWVA Jamboree in the late 1960s and eventually became an elder statesman in Nashville music with a collaboration list that ranged from big-band musician Woody Herman to Americana stalwart John Prine. His first Dot recording, “ ’Tis Sweet to Be Remembered,” stood as his theme song and takes on added meaning in the wake of his passing.
Wiseman was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014; Foster followed in 2016.
RADIO & RECORDSWXTU Philadelphia added afternoon-drive personality Nicole Michalik and digital PD Nicole Siberry, who doubles in her digital role for classic-rock WMGK. Michalik replaces Mark Razz, who was recently promoted to
PD. She was most recently affiliated as a radio personality with two non-country formats at iHeartMedia/Philadelphia. Siberry had been Entercom/Philadelphia promotions and programming coordinator … Westwood One launches a two-hour weekend show, With Elaina, on March 2. The move allows PD Drew Bland to focus on his executive duties. Halverson was previously assistant PD/music director for adult contemporary KLTA Fargo, N.D. … Jack Crenshaw concluded a three-year stint as Cumulus/Youngstown, Ohio, operations manager, according to InsideRadio.com. The cluster includes country WQXK … Entercom/Phoenix swapped morning shows on two of its stations on Feb. 25, Talkers.com reported. Maria Knight and Chad Mitchell moved to country KMLE, replacing Niko Petrou, who took their old shift at classic hits KOOL … Outgoing Country Radio Broadcasters executive director Bill Mayne will receive the President’s Award from the organization during the Country Radio Hall of Fame inductions on June 19 at the Vanderbilt Marriott in Nashville. CRB also granted $25,000 in scholarship endowments for the 2019-2020 school year to the University of Tennessee at Martin and the University of North Alabama in Florence.
’ROUND THE ROWCanadian firm ole music purchased Parallel Music Publishing, installing Parallel co-founder/managing partner Tim Hunze as ole senior director of creative. The deal covers more than 6,500 copyrights and adds six songwriters to the ole roster, including Michael White (“Kiss You in the Morning”), Lance Carpenter and Michael Lotten (“Alcohol You Later”) … Shore Fire Media promoted Nashville-based Jaclyn D. Carter to director of publicity from senior account executive. The division’s current client list includes Justin Moore, Logan Mize and Dillon Carmichael … Stoney Creek duo Walker McGuire broke up. Johnny McGuire is already teasing new solo music on his Facebook page … Singer-songwriter Savannah Nider signed a management deal with Myriad Productions. Blake Shelton visited with Oklahoma radio when he launched his Friends and Heroes Tour in Oklahoma City on Valentine’s Day. From left: KXXY Oklahoma City personality Bill Reed, Shelton, KWEN Tulsa music director Jenny Law and Warner Music Nashville radio and streaming coordinator Justin Newell.
MUSIC NOTESKeith Urban’s ability to focus was on sharp display when he played the first intermission of an outdoor game in the NHL’s stadium series on Feb. 23, wearing short sleeves in the cold rain at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Park. “Blue Ain’t Your Color” was vaguely audible underneath the commentators’ breakdown of the first period, and Urban offered rousing on-camera versions of “Never Coming Down” and “Wasted Time.” The game was good, too — a 4-3 overtime win for the Flyers against in-state rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dan + Shay, Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves got the most attention when the 54th annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were unveiled Feb. 20. Dan + Shay racked up nods in six categories, with the duo’s Dan Smyers picking up an additional four for his work as a producer and a co-writer of “Tequila.” Stapleton snagged six nominations in four categories, and Musgraves’ name appears five times across three fields. Ian Fitchuk, who co-produced her album Golden Hour, had the most improbable result. He was nominated twice for his production work and four more times in separate categories as a musician. CBS will telecast the ACMs on April 7.
Zac Brown Band has done a fair share of collaborating across multiple genres, recording “As She’s Walking Away” with country traditionalist Alan Jackson, cutting an EP with modern rocker Dave Grohl and sharing a CMT Crossroads stage with pop singer Shawn Mendes. It adds another twist by taking the opening slot on a Rolling Stones concert in Jacksonville, Fla., on April 24. ZBB is hardly the first country act to play lead-in to the Stones. Previous acts to take that slot include Rascal Flatts, Brooks & Dunn and Brad Paisley.
It’s as if they knew what was coming: Jimmie Allen and Abby Anderson recorded a cover of the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper collaboration “Shallow” and released it on Feb. 22, two days before it was named best original song at the Oscars. Allen and Anderson’s harmonies are worth checking out. In the ultimate display of harmony and collaboration, Lindsay Ell, Danielle Bradbery and Joy Williams provide three of four feature voices on neonPPL’s “BeYOUtiful,” which premiered on Billboard.com. The collective is purposely anonymous, instead putting the focus on communal positivity.

Dolly Parton met Irish group Celtic Woman at the Feb. 17 launch of 9 to 5: The Musical at London’s Savoy Theatre. From left: group members Mairéad Carlin and Éabha McMahon, Parton and group members Megan Walsh and Tara McNeill.

Happiness, we’re told by psychologists and self-help gurus, is a choice.Few country artists symbolize that more than Chris Janson, whose
rambunctious, cheerleader concert antics are part of a professional decision he makes on a near-daily basis to stay focused on positivity.
“It’s a major choice,” he says.“Good Vibes,” released Feb. 8 via PlayMPE as the lead single from his third
album, turns that choice into an electric, juiced-up anthem. The opening lines — “I ain’t watchin’ TV today/ Bad news, it can just stay away” — put that choice squarely in the headlights: If you don’t want the negativity of politics or The Jerry Springer Show, don’t turn on the tube.
“That’s why in our house we don’t watch a lot of it,” notes Janson.
Writing “Good Vibes” may have taken his attention away — intentionally or not —from emotions that darkened the minds of many music industry members the day he wrote it at the office of songwriter-producer Zach Crowell (“Body Like a Back Road,” “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset”). Oct. 1, 2018, was the anniversary of the Las Vegas massacre where a gunman killed 58 people at a concert by the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Numerous media rolled out stories that revived the horrors for people who were there or knew someone who had experienced it, and by the end of the day, many executives were emotionally spent.
Janson, Crowell and co-writer Ashley Gorley (“What Makes You Country,” “Life Changes”) are uncertain if they were aware of it that morning, though they were definitely sifting through the good and bad in their lives. And as they hashed that out, they consciously decided to follow an upbeat creative path for the day. Crowell had created a simple, choppy guitar riff and saved it to his computer, and when he pulled it up, it totally fit the bill. Janson suggested that the title needed to convey “good vibes,” and that set off his co-writers’ songwriting antennae: Why not just call it “Good Vibes”?
A quick internet search confirmed that there wasn’t an American hit with that name, and they went to work. They gave it a breezy chorus, ending the first two lines with “good vibes” and “good life,” then focused on absorbing the moment in line three: “I’m livin’ on God’s time.”
“There’s a little bit of a depth to it, instead of just like ‘Let’s have a good time and pop a beer,’ ” says Gorley.
Not to say there’s no alcohol reference. “I’ve got me a full cup/And there ain’t nothin’ gonna spill it” uses beer as a metaphor for choosing a glass-half-full viewpoint over the half-empty perspective.
To celebrate a positive choice, however, “Good Vibes” needed to identify the negative option, and both verses accomplish that. That opening anti-bad news line went a long way, and it became more emphatic when they turned a mother’s warning — “If you ain’t got anything good to say” — into an obvious concert shout-along: “Then shut. Your. Mouth.”
“All of us were fully aware of, if he cut it and if he put it out and it was a hit, how a crowd would react with you at that moment,” says Crowell. “We’re ending a verse at a big kind of crescendo moment, all of our radars go off: ding, ding.”
Where that verse-one moment hits the listener in the gut, verse two appeals to the head: “I ain’t tryin’ to hear the negative/I’m just tryin’ to change the narrative/It’s simply imperative/That we all have a real good time.”
Who the heck uses the word “imperative” in a commercial song?
“It’s so funny,” says Janson. “When you grow up, you don’t really know what those words are, but you say them when you’re a kid because you want to sound cool because you heard it in a movie somewhere. So I’ve been saying that for years, and then I found out what it meant, and I finally was able to put it to a song.”
With that repetitive guitar riff and the short nature of the stanzas, “Good Vibes” needed a bridge, and they settled quickly into a rap section that played
off the word “good” from the title. Gorley and Janson went back and forth with descriptors — a “good girl” with a “good smile,” who’s part of a “good morning” after a “good night” — that builds back into another go-’round with the cheerleader chorus. Adding to the song’s choice of positivity, that bridge nods to another choice Janson made in his life: marrying his manager, Kelly Janson.
“It’s natural for me to sing about Kelly,” he says. “I wanted her to be highlighted in the song because a lot of my good vibes, to be honest with you, personally come from my wife and kids.”
O nce t hey had completed t he son g, Janson wheeled into a vocal for the demo that ultimately became the backbone for the f inal version. He was as animated as the song suggests, challenging Crowell’s engineering skills.
“He’s not still at all,” notes Gorley. “Zach records vocals [without] a vocal booth. Everything is right there with everybody looking at you in the room. It’s an interesting
thing. He’s definitely jumping around. I don’t know how Zach gets it to even out and sound good, but Chris is a performer at heart. He jitters around, but he’s not getting off the mic.”
Crowell did a little more work on the demo, though he broke — or, at least, modified — the no-TV rule of “Good Vibes” along the way.
“I have a TV on in my studio running all the time,” he says. “I’ve always done it for 15, 20 years now. When I’m there by myself, it gives the room life, makes me feel like I’m not alone in there. But I always have it on SportsCenter, because it’s meaningless. Sports are cool, but nothing really matters.”
Crowell sent the finished demo to Janson on Oct. 5. He played it for Kelly, who was convinced it was a hit. So was the label, and Crowell enlisted musician friends one at a time to fill it out. Aaron Sterling overdubbed drums at his home in Los Angeles; Keith Urban’s bass player, Jerry Flowers, added a part when he visited Crowell’s house for a different project; and songwriter Jonathan Singleton (“Red Light,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance”) banged out background vocals at a different co-writing session with Crowell. Devin Malone layered additional guitars, including a solo that happens so quickly that some listeners might not even realize it’s there.
“Good Vibes” battled another new song, “Check,” to be the first single from the next album, but it was a unanimous decision, Janson says, to go with the former. It officially goes for adds on March 4. Janson hopes it’s a hit, of course, but even more, he hopes it helps listeners choose happiness, even when it’s difficult to find.
“It’s not that I’ve been this way my whole life,” he says. “I’ve had to learn to be this way myself. I am very happy, and I’m so proud to be a torch bearer if you will — it’s just a small light in the world, but whatever influence I may be able to have, maybe it’ll affect somebody in a great way.”

CHARTS LEGENDRANKINGSCountry Airplay is ranked by total audience impressions for the week ending Sunday based on monitored airplay of 149 stations by Nielsen BDS. Audience totals on the chart are derived, in part, using certain Arbitron Inc. copyrighted Persons 12+ audience estimates (under license © 2019, Arbitron Inc.) Country Indicator is tabulated using reported playlists and Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay at 109 stations, ranked by total plays.
BULLETSl Awarded on Country Airplay to titles gaining audience or remaining flat from the previous week. A song will also receive a bullet if its percentage loss in audience does not exceed the percentage of monitored
station downtime for the format. Titles that decline in audience but increase in detections will also receive a bullet if the total audience erosion for the week does not exceed 3%. Bullets are awarded on Country Indicator to titles gaining plays or remaining flat from the previous week.
TIESOn Country Airplay, if two songs are tied in total audience, the song with the larger increase in audience is placed first. On Country Indicator, if two songs are tied in total plays, the song with the larger increase in plays is placed first.
RECURRENTSOn Country Airplay, descending titles below No. 10 in either audience or detections are moved to recurrent after 20 weeks, provided that they are not still
gaining enough audience points to bullet or if they rank below No. 10 and post a third consecutive week of (non-bulleted) audience decline, regardless of total chart weeks. On Country Indicator, descending, non-bulleted titles below No. 10 are moved to recurrent after 20 weeks or if they post a third consecutive week of decline in plays after 10 weeks.
HOT SHOT DEBUTAwarded to the highest-ranking new entry on Country Airplay and Country Indicator, respectively.
MOST ADDEDThe total number of new adds officially reported to Billboard by each reporting station, or by an automatic-add threshold (seven plays for the first time in a chart tracking week, according to Nielsen BDS) for stations that do not report adds.
MOST INCREASED AUDIENCE/PLAYSMost Increased Audience on Country Airplay and Most Increased Plays on Country Indicator list the songs with the greatest week-to-week increases in total audience or plays, respectively.
AIRPOWERAwarded on Country Airplay to titles ranking inside top 20 in plays and audience rankings for the first time, with increases in both plays and audience.
BREAKERAwarded on Country Airplay to titles achieving airplay (at least one detection) at 60% of reporting stations for the first time.
