INTERNATIONAL ENTRY POINT : RANTAU PANJANG [NORTHEAST]

• Constructed: 1933• Distance: 18.7 km

• Passenger services• Was 3 services daily• Discontinued in June 1982• Due to security reason (smuggling

activities)

• Cargo services• Was carrying cement from Northwest of

Malaysia• Discontinued in 2003• Due to Southern Thailand unrest

• Current state: track condition deteriorating due to damage from flooding in 2007

INTERNATIONAL ENTRY POINT : JOHOR BAHRU [SOUTH]

• MY-SG Rail link opened in 17th Sept 1923

• Originally end at south of Singapore in TanjungPagar Railway Station (TPRS)

• Cargo services to feed New Harbour(aka Keppel Harbour)

• MY-SG Point of Agreement(POA) [May 2010]

• ended train services to Singapore• KTMB terminus relocated from TPRS to

Woodlands Train Check Point (WTCP)• Effective date from 1st July 2011• Cargo services to SG discontinued• Only passenger services remains• KTM will cease services to WTCP when

Rapid Transit System between Johor Bahru & Woodlands become operational (est. December 2024)

INTERNATIONAL ENTRY POINT : PADANG BESAR [NORTHWEST]

• 14 tracks• Passenger: 2 tracks (electrified)• Container terminal: 5 tracks (non-

• Container Terminal:• Current: 108,000 TEUs Per Annum• 1,241 TEUs Laden Container at any

one time• 2 weight bridge• Container stacking: 3 layers• 4-5 daily trips to New Butterworth

• New elevated office & security post• Additional 2 weight bridge• Replace existing BS80 rail & turnout to UIC54• Track flushing• Increase annual capacity to 132,000 TEUs

represents an international collaborationbetween KTMB and the State Railway ofThailand (SRT)

started with 2 weekly trains from Port Klang toBangsue

gradually expanded to major dry and seaports in Malaysia and terminates at variousstations and freight terminal in Thai territory.

Shorter travelling time by rail from Port Klang– Bangsue takes 60 hours while sea transporttakes 5-7 days.

iii. Rollingstock:• Hire & haulage charges;• Responsibility for damage & repairs;• Responsibility for loss of life, bodily harm

& loss to goods
