The CounterPlay Festival explores the role of play in society, and fo- cus on supporting playfulness in all the areas where it’s being mar- ginalized. Our scope is broad and encompasses everything from war zones, refugee camps and prisons to schools, libraries, museums, public/urban spaces and private companies; from life-threatening situations to everyday challenges that get in the way of play. We see play as an essential part of being human, of mental and phys- ical well-being, and as a fundamen- tal catalyst of living happy lives for kids and adults alike. A playful state of mind helps you cope with adversity and connect with people; play is a mode of expression that raises questions, fuels creativity and inspires you to challenge the status quo. At CounterPlay ‘16, we invite you to participate in an open exploration of these and other ways of think- ing and talking about play: through conversations, workshops and – most importantly – through play. The festival is organized in collabo- ration with DOKK1 in Aarhus, Den- mark, where it also takes place on April 14-16 2016. Play when it’s difficult What is play? Why is play important?
