    A Place Called Home is seeking a committed and compassionate CounselorReports to: Director of Counseling Services FLSA Status: Non-ExemptHours: Full-time (32-35 hours per week/schedule may vary) Salary Range: $20 - $22/hourBenefits: Competitive health insurance package, paid vacation, and 401K matching plan

    A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs,counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discoverinterests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase thelikelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active citizens capable of makingpositive change in the world in which they live.     SUMMARYCounselor will facilitate counseling sessions and activities for participating members and families in English and Spanish. Counselorwill collaborate with Case Managers and Membership Services to provide wrap around support services to members.

    Conduct intakes and coordinate services for APCH members in the Counseling program Counsel APCH members and family thru one-on-one, group, and play therapy techniques in English and Spanish Translate for Director of Counseling Services as necessary for interventions or sessions

    Facilitate counseling program according to industry standards and regulations Collaborate with department staff to plan and implement program activities Work in conjunction with all APCH programs to facilitate psycho-educational support to members & training for employees Collaborate with community to develop relationships and partnerships with other organizations Refer and report per mandated requirements any issues of abuse and neglect according to the law Track member progress through case notes and Individual Program Plans (IPP) and compile monthly case studies/reports Remain informed of best practices with regard to administration of counseling services Remain informed of requirements imposed by grantors and other funding sources including the federal government Attends internal or external meetings as requested or required Maintains strong relationships with departments external collaborating partners

    Education/Training/ExperienceDegree: Masters degree in counseling or clinical psychologyKnowledge of best practices in wrap around services and family systemsMinimum of 4-6 years experience in counseling youth and families in at-risk environment

    Physical and Mental Demands

    Able to work in chaotic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center

    Sit for many hours each day; walk frequently Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications Able to prepare detailed reports and conduct evaluations Must be willing to work flexible schedule
