Counsellor's Corner

Amidst this shift to virtual platforms, DYPIS is working relentlessly to provide

seamless education, knowledge and skills to their students. Notwithstanding

the lack of physical contact, there is constant effort to cater to the individual

needs of every student from academics, extracurricular activities, counseling to

global exposure.

Yes, the world is changing rapidly and we have learnt that it sometimes takes a

single event to revolutionize the way we live. Technology, which was making

small in-roads in different spheres of our lives, has suddenly become its

center-stage.

In our pursuit to bring every opportunity to the students, DYPIS executed a

successful Virtual Career and University Fair on the 5th of September, 2020.

This event brought experts and representatives from Industry and Institutions

to every home.

The panelists discussed various skills and careers of the future, let us

summarize some of these points for our students.

By the year 2030, it’s highly likely you’ll be working in a job that doesn’t

even exist yet. The world of work is evolving quickly, which means you

have to figure out how to prepare for a future job role that’s impossible to

predict.

However, we can discuss a few skills you’ll need to succeed in your future

career, whatever it maybe.

What Skills will you need in the Future?

Page 3: Counsellor's Corner€¦ · SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) are the buzzwords for ... we’re on the cusp of the fourth industrial revolution, we’re still going to need

1. Cognitive flexibility:

The rise of digital technologies means you’re going to need to be able to

handle the plethora of opportunities and challenges that come with it. Do

you have the ability to adapt to change and conceptualize complex multiple

ideas all at once? You will need to be a multi-tasker to work on various

building blocks of a task.

2. Digital literacy and computational thinking:

As the world continues to rely on highly technical and continuously evolving

technologies, the need for those with the digital skills to match also

increases. SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) are the buzzwords for

tomorrow. Being digitally literate offers capabilities beyond what was once

thought impossible when it comes to emerging technologies, such as

artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and data

science.

3. Judgment and decision-making:

Although robots and automation technology may be better than humans in

other ways such as calculations and diagnostic solving, it’s still going to be

humans that deal with the subjective side of data analytics. Considering

we’re on the cusp of the fourth industrial revolution, we’re still going to

need to have somebody who is able to show the world what numbers mean

and their significance.

4. Emotional and social intelligence:

For everything that can be replaced by digital technologies and artificial

intelligence, emotional and social intelligence remain uniquely human

capabilities. In some sectors, these qualities are absolutely crucial. Your

future job is more than likely going to include working closely with others,

so having empathy, the ability to collaborate, as well as excellent

communication skills is something you’re most definitely going to need.

5. Creative and innovative mindset:

Robot automation will create more jobs than they displace, and you’ll still

do well to keep on top of your creativity skills and maintain an innovative

mindset. Much like having an excellent sense of social intelligence, natural

creativity is something that can’t be easily replicated by the latest digital

technologies. You need to learn to think outside the box.

Artificial Intelligence – The Game-Changer

Dr. Edmond Maher, Vice

Chancellor, Ajeenkya DY Patil

University, further shed light

on some Future Jobs in AI.

Artificial Intelligence is one

such sector that is flourishing

over the past decade. We

have seen some noticeable

breakthrough in industry

sectors such as healthcare,

finance, human resources,

and retail.

1) Mechatronics: Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field that combines several

engineering types—electrical, computer, and mechanical and refers to the

skill sets needed in the modern, advanced automated manufacturing

industry.

2) Biomedical Engineering: It is a field that combines biology and engineering,

applying engineering principles and materials to medicine and healthcare. As

an aspect of AI, it contributes to addressing medical needs and life-saving

concepts.

3) Data Engineering: If you are the type of person that likes building and

tweaking systems, data engineering might be right for you. A data engineer

transforms data into a useful format for analysis.

4) Full-stack development: The full-stack developers are computer

programmers who are proficient in both front and back end coding. Their

primary responsibilities include designing user interactions on websites,

developing servers, and databases for website functionality and mobile

platforms coding.

5) Human-Computer Interaction: It is a multidisciplinary field of study

focusing on computer technology design and, in particular, the interaction

between humans (the users) and computers.

6) Computational Biology: It is the study of physical principles that are part of

biological phenomena and processes. The field of computational biology

studies molecules, cells, tissues, organs, phenotype or behaviour of genes

and nucleic acid or peptide sequence under certain situations.

7) Mechanical Design: Designing machinery that is efficient, sleek and

sustainable can be a part of mechanical design. Mechanical designers

sometimes referred to as mechanical drafters, create strategies for

mechanical devices and equipment.

8) Mobile Application and Information Security: It focuses on mobile

apps' software posture on various platforms like Android, iOS, and

Windows Phone.

9) Mobile Application and Cloud Technology: Cloud computing allows

users to share computing resources through the Internet. It is executing

applications and storing data without downloading all the necessary files

onto your computer or any such devices.

10) Blockchain Technology: Blockchain is a system of recording

information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change,

hack, or cheat the system. A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of

transactions.

11) Augmented and Virtual Reality: Augmented reality, adds digital

elements to a live view often by using the camera on a smartphone.

Grade 12 students have already started their

University Application process for Foreign

Universities. The counsellors are meeting them

every week to provide assistance in filling the

Common App, Coalition, UCAS, UC and OUAC

forms.

University of California Application workshop was conducted for the

students of Grade 12 on September 28th

, by Ms. Anisha of UC, Irvine. She

explained the form details and essays required for college application.

Pointers were also discussed as to how to self-report.

New York State College Virtual Tour was conducted

on September 29th

for the students of Grade 11

and 12. They had an opportunity to chat with the

counselors from Rochester, Hamilton, Marist and

Stony brook Universities. The opportunities,

admission requirements and UG programs on

these campuses were the main highlight of this

session.

UPDATES

Teacher’s Workshop

Teacher Recommendation Letters form a

vital part of the University Applications. It is

a document designed to add extra weight

and merit to a college application. Therefore,

On September 15th

, a Teacher Training

Workshop was conducted by Dr. Pratibha

Jain to help the teachers write comprehensive and compelling LORs.
