School of Health and Natural Sciences is proud to announce a workshop entitled:
Counseling Skills for the Speech-‐Language Pathologist: Promoting Optimal Outcomes in Treatment
Speaker:
Dr. Aaron Lieberman, DSW, LCSW, LMHC
Course Description:
This course aims to facilitate the introduction and preparation of speech-language pathologists to incorporate counseling knowledge and skill sets into their practice as currently required by the ‘Scope of Practice’ declaration of the American Speech Language Association (ASHA). The course will present approaches to addressing clients’ emotional and behavioral issues identified in the communication disorder literature as co-morbid issues impacting client lives and their involvement in the treatment of such disorders. We will explore various counseling interventions that help the practitioner recognize and address common client reactions that can impede or otherwise sabotage treatment outcomes. Specific counseling skill sets will be identified and practiced to help develop a foundation of appropriate emotional/ behavioral interventions on the part of the speech- language pathologist.
This course is offered for 0.3 ASHA CEUS (Intermediate level, Professional area)
Friday, January 27, 2017 Mercy College Lecture Hall, Main Building 9:00 am-‐ 12:15 pm 555 Broadway (continental breakfast 8:30 am) Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522
