The Balranald Shire has been successful in receiving funding for four projects across the district. Member for Murrumbidgee and Minister for Education, Mr Adrian Piccoli visited Balranald on Friday 6th
March to announce $300,000 of funding towards the upgrade of the Balranald Central School science lab.
Congratulations to the team at Balranald Central School in securing this funding, it will be a welcome asset
for the school.
Whilst in Balranald, Mr Piccoli announced that Council had been successful in gaining a $150,000 grant
through the NSW Government’s ClubGrants Category 3 funding program towards the skate park and
playground equipment for the Discovery Centre Precinct.
Stage one of the skate park project began with the pouring of the slab on Friday 21 November, with funds received from Sk8 Park committee, donations and grant money secured by Balranald Inc. The funding announced by Mr Piccoli will now allow for stage 2 - construction of the skate park, and additional playground equipment and fencing at the Discovery centre.
Council has also been successful in securing $344,000 funding through the “Fixing the Roads Funding”
program towards extending the sealed road on the Euston-Prungle Road. Council is currently working on
2.4km of the road and intend to continue a further 3.4km for a total of 5.8km. The total cost of this project
is $627,000, and with Councils contribution of $238,000, this funding is very welcome.
Additionally, Council has secured $403,000 funding over three years from the “Regional Boating Plan
(Murray Riverina Region) program, allowing Council to focus on four projects currently listed on the
Regional Priority List. This includes:
-Installing pontoons at both the Kyalite boat ramp & the Balranald Caravan Park boat ramps,
- Installing pontoons and widening of the Euston Reserve Boat Ramp,
- Investigations into improved boating access at Lake Benanee.

Cherie Murphy and I attended an assembly at St Josephs school on 20th February. Included in the assembly was a special presentation to our Australia Day Young Sportsperson of the Year, Nicholas Hodgson. It was a delight to be included in the assembly and to officially present Nicholas his award. I headed to the Balranald Races on 21 February. It was great to see so many there on such a warm day. Unfortunately I didn't pick a winner……. The General Manager and I travelled to Condobolin for the Western Division Conference. It was a very good conference with positive outcomes. I attended the pasta party at the Euston Club for the Euston Club Grand Prix Triathlon. A fantastic event. Congratulations to all who entered. I had the privilege to open the Robinvale-Euston Ski race this year. Another good attendance rate and full weekend of racing was held.
