MANRESA REVUE OCTOBER 2018 Volume 108 Issue 10 FROM THE GRAND KNIGHTS DESK Summer has ended and the new Columbian year at Manresa Council has one again gotten off to a quick start. We opened the Month of Sep- tember with our annual Picnic at the Alba House, with 130 of us in at- tendance and the food was handled by Barios Catering. A small profit was made allowing us to donate $665.00 to the Society of St. Paul which owns & operates the Alba House. The brothers over there, espe- cially Brother Peter, have become Manresas new best friends. (He now calls me once or twice a week asking for favors) With 9 active councils currently operating on Staten Island, lots of my personnel life has been consumed attending Installation Ceremonies. Manresa was a sponsor of the very 1 st Jointinstallation ceremony with Drumgoole Council and St. Anthony of Padua Council. It eliminat- ed 2 additional ceremonies that I would have had to attend but, was not very well received by the membership. Id like to thank all the guys who gave up their Sunday morning to as- sist with the Soccer Challenge and also to the guys who helped set up the gymnasium for Father Charless going away party. Im happy to say that the Emembership program has been fairly suc- cessful at Manresa Council. We will be holding a 1 st degree ceremony at the Council next Thursday, October 11 th and assuming they all at- tend we will have 8 new members making their 1 st degree. Every one of these members signed up through that program. Our next upcoming event is the Halloween Party scheduled for Satur- day night October 27 th from 8:00 – 12:00. Cost is $40.00 per person or $75.00 per couple with hot buffet and full open bar. It is real important to all the guys running these events that you get your reservations in early. All checks should be made out to Manresa Council and it would be appreciated it you got them in as soon as possible. Please drop off your check at the council or bring it with you to our next meeting. Eddie Thatcher, Grand Knight COUNCIL OFFICERS 2018-2019 District Deputy: Michael McHugh, PGK Chaplain: Rev. MANRESA REVUE OCTOBER 2018 Volume 108 Issue 10

FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT’S DESK

Summer has ended and the new Columbian year at Manresa Council has one again gotten off to a quick start. We opened the Month of Sep-tember with our annual Picnic at the Alba House, with 130 of us in at-tendance and the food was handled by Bario’s Catering. A small profit was made allowing us to donate $665.00 to the Society of St. Paul which owns & operates the Alba House. The brothers over there, espe-cially Brother Peter, have become Manresa’s new best friends. (He now calls me once or twice a week asking for favors)

With 9 active councils currently operating on Staten Island, lots of my personnel life has been consumed attending Installation Ceremonies. Manresa was a sponsor of the very 1st “Joint” installation ceremony with Drumgoole Council and St. Anthony of Padua Council. It eliminat-ed 2 additional ceremonies that I would have had to attend but, was not very well received by the membership.

I’d like to thank all the guys who gave up their Sunday morning to as-sist with the Soccer Challenge and also to the guys who helped set up the gymnasium for Father Charles’s going away party.

I’m happy to say that the “E” membership program has been fairly suc-cessful at Manresa Council. We will be holding a 1st degree ceremony at the Council next Thursday, October 11th and assuming they all at-tend we will have 8 new members making their 1st degree. Every one of these members signed up through that program.

Our next upcoming event is the Halloween Party scheduled for Satur-day night October 27th from 8:00 – 12:00.

Ten Reasons Why Men of Faith Should

Support K of C Insurance 1. The Knights of Columbus has products that help families all across the economic spectrum. If a Catholic family needs a strong insurance company, we are it. 2. Knights of Columbus Field Agents serve their members with high integrity, and so does our organization, which was named a World’s Most Ethical Company® by the Ethisphere® Institute for the fifth consecutive year this past February. 3. Your local Knights of Columbus Field Agent is committed to you. His working mission and pur-pose is to provide the best advice and service to you and your family. 4. Your dollars with the Knights do triple duty: They are invested in a Catholic way, they help

those less fortunate and they help your family. 5. The Knights of Columbus offers more than life insurance. We also have insured retirement plans where your IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401ks or non-qualified funds can be placed to maximize your retirement income. 6. Knights of Columbus Field Agents can help members create a solid financial legacy plan. Remember, you don’t choose if you leave a legacy — you either leave your family a legacy of love or you leave them burdens. 7. The Knights of Columbus offers long-term care insurance, a product that helps you pay for your extended medical needs in a nursing home facility or in the comfort of your own home. The Knights allow you, not someone else, to de-cide how and where you should live. It’s up to you. 8. With the Knights of Columbus you can guarantee that, even if you run out of money, you will never run out of in-come. 9. The Knights of Columbus offers disability-income insurance, a product that helps replace lost income if you are unable to work due to a disability resulting from an illness or accident. 10. The Knights of Columbus help to ensure that the dreams a father has for his children can come true — even if he’s not here to see to it and provide it himself

As a Knight, you have a full-time professional brother Knight field agent to call your own. His job — his mission — is to help you determine the most cost-effective means of getting your family the coverage it needs. It’s a proven fraternal system that has helped countless families when they need it most.

Manresa 100th Anniversary

The next meeting for the Manresa 100th Anniversary committee will be held on Tuesday, October 30th at 8pm. All members are invited to attend.

The council’s Hundredth Anniversary Celebration, which is less than two years away, will include a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan, A Dinner-Dance, Golf Outing, and a Community event. In order to make this extravaganza possible a great deal of planning and effort is involved and the committee can certainly use volunteers. This is a great opportunity to take an active role in your council.
