COUNCIL OF BARRINGTON GARDEN CLUBS September 21, 1982 The meeting was called to order by President Joanne Larson at 9:10 a.m.; the following members were present: Margaret Kerr and Susan Rider, Country- side Garden Class; Helen Withrow, Little Garden Club; Penny Horne, Garden Club of Barrington;oJan Harlan and Joanne Larson, Village Planters; Andee Carponelli and Ann Matz, Field and Flower; Sheila De John and Diana Harner, Four Seasons; Bea Welty, Country Home and Garden; and Betty Keating, Green Thumbs. Members looked over the new list of representatives passed out by Pres ident Larson. Each member was reminded to save tuo conis of their club'sdirecbo- ries, one for the president and the other for the secretary. The minutes were approved as read.. There was no treasurer or historian report. Library and Historical Society Christmas Assignments - The following assign- ments were passed out re Christmas decorations: Histotical Society Door Green Thumbs Interior Village Planters Library Christmas Tree Main checkout desk Main information desk Adult Quiet Room Fireplace Mantel Front Doors (2) Prarie State Countryside Garden Class Four Seasons Garden Club of Barrington Little Garden Club of Barrington Country Home and Garden Field and Flower 1983 Flower Show - Penny Horne met in July with a representative from the Ice House to discuss the best date, whether the show will be held on a week- end or during the week, and which merchants are participating in the upcoming Flower Show. She hopes to get four days of a middle weekend in September, a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday - Sunday being clean-up day. Penny will emphasize the 25th Anniversary theme. She hopes to highlight individual programs that each club has done and to incorporate thiSuniqueness into the show. Examples of this would be Nature Lady and Ruth and Robert Work Park. Arbor Day and Planter Boxes - Assistant chairmen are needed for Arbor Day from Country Home and Garden and for Planter Boxes from Green Thumbs. Service Project - Midas . Muffler s s service project request was referred to Mr. Reed, Barrington High School•

The following announcements were made: a. The Barrington Historical Society Museum will again be having Tree-

Scapes this Christmas. b. The Garden Club of Barrington is offering an Earth Trek Scholarship

from the National Wildlife Federation, 1412 16th St. N.W., Washington D.C., 20036. There is $250.00 set aside for a 13-17 year old. Four sessions are held from June through August. Members were asked to pass this information to their respective cluibs. Any student interested should contact Mr. Reed at the High School.

c. Members were asked to encourage applications for the Trees for Tomorrow forestry classes held in Wisconsin. These are due by December 1, 1982. Every year Council votes to donate money to this program and so far Mr. Reed has had no applications turned in.

d. Arts week will be held October 2 - 10th. e. BACOG is the source for Gypsy Moth booklet. f. The District IX Flower Show School- Course V - will be held October 6 -

8th at the Botanical Garden.
