Brother Knights, In the Gospel of Mark, when a scribe questioned Jesus about the most important commandments, Jesus replied, You shall love the Lord your God with all you heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30). Men, this is difficult to truly embrace. When you think about it realistically, there are so many things and people that we strongly love in the same way. How can we love any- thing more than our wife? How about our children? Our parents? So why should we follow Gods commandment since it is so difficult to do? We should because God is love. He will never abandon us. He will never disappoint us. He is always there and before we were even born He loved us and knew us. Jesus Christ is ultimately our strength. He is what we ultimately depend on. He is existence itself. He gives us what we need, not what we want as a loving parent and Father does. He ultimately IS the answer we all seek. When our human relationships let us down, He will be there not only to pick us back up but to comfort and console us. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Therefore, He is ultimately deserving of our deep- est love. He wants us to love him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Brother Knights,

In the Gospel of Mark, when a scribe questioned Jesus about the most important commandments, Jesus replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all you heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30). Men, this is difficult to truly embrace. When you think about it realistically, there are so many things and people that we strongly love in the same way. How can we love any-thing more than our wife? How about our children? Our parents? So why should we follow God’s commandment since it is so difficult to do?

We should because God is love. He will never abandon us. He will never disappoint us. He is always there and before we were even born He loved us and knew us. Jesus Christ is ultimately our strength. He is what we ultimately depend on. He is existence itself. He gives us what we need, not what we want as a loving parent and Father does. He ultimately IS the answer we all seek. Dear Brother Knights,

At the beginning of Ordinary Time, I would like to encourage you to make time every day to read a little bit more of holy scripture. If possible, read the next 5 Sunday ’s readings at one sitting. What I mean is for you to read the next five Sunday’s Gospels and let the word of the Lord get into your hearts and transform those aspects of your life that need to be changed.

In that way, you will be seeking God’s love by accepting his word as proof of his continuous accompaniment. You will experience the freedom of spirit necessary for

serving and you will rejoice in that service because by serving, you glorify God. You should under-stand in your heart that His word is powerful. You can let him guide and sustain your body, spirit and community of love.

Your Worthy Chaplain,

Fr. Frank Lobo

For the January 23 dinner we had an overflow of volunteers who we could not stack up along the serving line.

The K of C commitment to serve the women’s and families’ section of the homeless shelter was a complete success. Available to smile and serve were Pat & Ed Fleri, James Taglia and Jackie Ladue, Ann and Joe Osisek, Alan Blackmon, Melvin Franzen, George Sheldon and myself. A pretty impressive crew for a normal amount of women and some children.

The dinner we distributed consisted of spaghetti with a generous amount of meat sauce, mixed corn vegetables, salad, bread, milk for the children and a variety of desserts and a fruit drink. From the returned plates one could judge that it was well received.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our council members who served this dinner!

2019 Laps For Life - Sat Mar 30 By James Taglia

The Laps for Life Walk a Thon is scheduled for Saturday, March 30.

There will be fun for all as well as comradery between Brother Knights. Food will be available for purchase, as three councils have donated the products and will prepare the food and serve us. There is entertainment for the family as well as an ongoing tally of those Councils who have raised money for the event.

Currently, there are two councils who have created teams and are fund raising. We are looking to each council to raise $2,000. One team has collected over $800 so far. That being said, we do not want to come in behind anyone else. Council 5618’s goal is $10,000. (That reminds me of an OLD joke. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Same works here…one donation at a time). There are councils that will collect money from all their brethren and then match it dollar for dollar. Bishop Thomas J Grady Council 5618 does not do that. The money that we donate is raised by our Knights and family members.

Brothers, there are several teams in which you can join or donate to:

• Easy Ed - captain is Renzo Vargas

• Columbus Circle 5618 - captain is Pete Ramondetta

The Knights of Columbus have collected and paid out over $30,000,000 to place over 1,000 ultrasound ma-chines nationwide so far. We have requests for three more machines. We need the to continue to work to raise these funds and end abortion.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you March 30 with our Brothers Celebrating Life.

Our council held our Welcome the new year pancake breakfast for our parish and community on Sunday January 13. Breakfast was prepared without flaw and our diners enjoyed a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and fluffy pancakes, some with chocolate chips and whipped cream! The beverage guys did another outstanding customer serving feat of serving piping hot coffee, hot chocolate (compliments of Walt Bagley) and orange juice. Don Holzemer reports that we served 170 happy customers, a whooping 25% more than last year’s January breakfast! This is a wonderful community event that our Council sponsors twice a year. Much thanks to David Weisman, who chaired this event again. (Somebody took a group picture of this event, but did not share it with me.)

On January 12, the 12th Annual March For Life was held in St Augustine. The procession began after Mass celebrated by Bishop Felipe Estevez and processed from the Mission Nombre de Dios to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. There were thousands of peaceful participants. While walking, many us prayed the rosary for the unborn and those women who have had abortions. The reason I say “many of us” is that not all of us were Catholic. This was an ecumenical group with multiple faiths participating. It is nice to know that we are not the only ones fighting for the rights of the unborn.

After the procession, we were hosted to a spaghetti dinner sponsored by Florida’s First Council 0611 (established 10/13/1901).

For those who attended the March from the Altamonte/Longwood/Sanford area, there was a free bus service from the K of C Hall in Sanford, sponsored by Father Richard J Lyons Council 5357.

If you did not attend, you missed a wonderful event. I strongly urge you to attend and participate next January. I’ve confirmed that Council 5357 plans to host a bus again, at no charge, to those of us who wish to take advantage of it. On Thursday, when our Worthy Grand Knight Mark Lawrence heard our Council was asked to cook and serve for the Scouts Breakfast on Sunday (February 3), he put out a request for help. Several of our dedicated servant Knights stepped up and responded to Mark’s call. We cooked and served a wonderful breakfast of Buddy Anderson and Larry Mancini’s pancakes, Ed Gallagher’s sausages and David Foret’s famous scrambled eggs. Roger Copeland sprayed whipped cream on the pancakes. Coffee, hot chocolate, and apple and orange juice was served. Thanks to all of the cooks and their helpers, the servers and the clean-up and put-away crew for giving up their time on a Sunday morning at such short notice!

Jesse Ross (left) is our newest Knight. He became a Knight at our Council’s Admissions 1st Degree Exemplification on January 29.

Fred Bremer achieved honorary status with our council on December 6, 2018.

At our January meeting, Grand Knight Mark Lawrence announced the Knight of the month for December was Beeler Gausz. Mark will present the award to Beeler the next time he sees him.

Congratulations Council 5618 Knights on your achievements!!

Congratulations Council 5618 Knights of Columbus!

Submitted by Richard Micheil: I would like to recommend Gary Moskop for special consideration as a Knight that works silently behind the scene. At almost every event I have attended he has been working diligently and efficiently at doing whatever has to be done to make the event successful. When everyone is seated and enjoying their meal he is found in the kitchen cleaning up most of the time by himself with no one to help him. He has a real commitment to our council and I feel

is worth of praise for what he has accomplished for us.

Submitted by Buddy Anderson: How about Annette and Gary Moskop for the Christmas Men's Club and Knights party? They not only organized but decorated the PLC, bought all the trimmings including food, and how about the cake design! And there is Gary in the background doing the "dirty" work that no one sees, the pots and pans so the "show" can continue. And he and Annette have been doing this for years! I just thought it was about time someone shouted out publicly "thank you". And for all the Lenten fish fries that Gary headed up, making sure supplies were there and all.

And David Weisman with the deceased brothers mass and the pancake breakfasts. Did you know Dave Foret and Dan Sims helped decorate the church for Christmas? How about all the Knights who serve as ministers of the Eucharist? Lectors? Sacristans? Help count the collections on Monday? Ok I am babbling, but a lot of the Knights go unrecognized, and at least we could acknowledge them in a small but meaningful way.

Tom Przybyla and Don Holzemer, always there at every event, making sure there is coffee, lemonade, adult beverages if appropriate; without their involvement the event would seriously be lacking. All year long.

Finally, how about a little recognition for the Pinta Log editor!!! Many brothers who aren't as active for various reasons appreciate being brought up to date with the council's activities, birth dates, messages and so forth. You bring a lot of joy to many who can't participate because of health or other concerns. Our Pinta Log is not only well written but well-"intentioned" and deserves our applause. Your column inspired this writing.

Submitted by Tom Przybyla: If you’ve participated or been to one of our events, chances are you’ve seen Mel Franzen working at the event. He is usually the first to arrive and the last to leave. And when I mean leave, I mean he is usually bringing supplies back to the storage room in the Annex. I admire him for his spirit of charity and his example of serving our Council and our parish community.

Appreciation and Recognition By Tom Przybyla

When you experience someone doing something nice for another person or serving another person with the love of Jesus Christ, please send me an email ([email protected]) with a brief description of the appreciation and recognition and include the name of the person who deserves the praise. Tell me if you want your example to be anonymous and I will not include your name, but I hope you take the credit. Let’s give this a try and keep it going, but ultimately it will be up to you. So please share your appreciation of someone or recognize a person for some-thing they did that reflected the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
