WELCOME Welcome to your first 2020/2021 edition of The Cougar Chronicle. This newsletter contains the most up to date information regarding important dates, school/student accomplishments, and upcoming activities. The Chronicle is emailed to parents, usually on Mondays and can be accessed on the One Bates Website. The first chronicle of the month has a number of attachments. You will have an opportunity to review your email address at school supply pick-up; please ensure that your email address is correctly listed. If your email address changes during the school year, please call the front office to update your information. Additional resources and information can be found on the One Bates Website.

START OF SCHOOL REMINDERS

→ First day for all students is September 8th. Students will start their day in their “Building Communities Class” which is listed as Period 9 on their schedules.

→ Student Schedules will be available to view in Parent Portal starting August 31st. If you do not currently have a Parent Portal Account, contact your grade level counselor or administrator for an access code.

→ We have begun passing out chrome books. If you have not been assigned a pick-up time or have heard from someone about pick up, please contact your grade level counselor.

→ When visiting the building, please park in the lot by the gym. Please leave the curb in front of the school free as to allow for emergency vehicles. Enter by pressing the bell near the door with the ramp. You must be wearing a mask. Please make use of the hand sanitizer machine at the door.

→ Uniform policy: Students are not required to wear uniforms during home instruction; however, school uniform shirts will be available to purchase at School Supply Pick-Up day (Date to be determined). Uniform colors remain 6th gr – black, 7th gr – royal blue, and 8th gr – purple. While uniforms are not required, appropriate dress for school is required for virtual classes.

Please watch your email for a “School Supply Pick Up”

invitation. The school team is busy preparing a packet of

necessary instructional materials (for example, agenda books,

schoolbooks, music sheets, art supplies, etc.) in order to

support learning at home. In addition, families will be asked to

review the emergency contact form and uniform shirts will be

available for purchase. The date will be set once all supplies

have been received by the school.

Classroom. If your student is unsure of how to sign in, please contact your grade level counselor.

Why you should join the Bates PTA We are lucky to have an active PTA here at Bates Middle School. The PTA connects parents to the school through volunteering and advocacy. All members of the Bates' community are invited to attend PTA meetings and Coffee with the Principal. These gatherings serve as social events and a forum to discuss both PTA and school sponsored events/activities. Administration attends these meetings and are available to answer your questions. BIENVENIDOS Bienvenido a su primera edición 2020/2021 de Cougar Chronicle. Este boletín contiene la información más actualizada sobre fechas importantes, logros escolares/estudiantiles y próximas actividades. El Chronicle se envía a los padres por correo electrónico, generalmente los Lunes y se puede acceder a él en One Bates Website. La primera crónica del mes tiene varios anexos. Tendrá la oportunidad de revisar su dirección de correo electrónico el día que vaya a la escuela a recoger material escolar; asegúrese de que su correo esté correcto. Si su dirección de correo electrónico cambia durante el año escolar, llame a la oficina principal para actualizar su información. RECORDATORIOS DE INCIO DE CLASES

→ El primer día de clases para TODOS los estudiantes es el 8 de Sept. Los estudiantes empezarán su día en la clase “Building Communities”, listada como periodo 9 en sus horarios.

→ Los horarios de los estudiantes estarán disponibles en Parent Portal/Portal de Padres a partir del 31 de Agosto. Si usted no tiene una cuenta del Portal de Padres, contacte a su consejero de grado o administrador para obtener el código de acceso.

→ Ya empezamos a distribuir chromebooks. Si no se le ha asignado una hora para ir a recogerlo o nadie se ha comunicado con usted al respecto, por favor contacte a su consejero de grado.

→ Cuando visite el edificio, por favor use el estacionamiento junto al gimnasio. Deje LIBRE la acera frente a la escuela para permitir el paso de vehículos de emergencia. Para entrar, presione el timbre cerca de la puerta con la rampa. Se require el uso de tapabocas. Por favor utilice la máquina con desinfectante de manos disponible en la entrada.

→ Política de Uniforme: No se require que los estudiantes usen uniforme durante la instrucción en casa; sin embargo, las camisas del uniforme estarán a la venta el Día para Rocoger Artículos Escolares/School Supply Pick-Up day (Se determinará la fecha). Los colores del uniforme son 6to negro, 7mo–azul real, y 8vo–morado. Aunque no se requiere el uso de uniformes, SI se require vestimenta apropiada para la escuela durante las horas de instrucción virtual.

Ponga atención en su correo para la invitación del Día para

Recoger Útiles Escolares/School Supply Pick Up. El equipo escolar

ha estado muy ocupado preparando paquetes de materiales de

instrucción necesarios (por ejemplo, agendas, libros de texto,

partituras de música, materiales de arte,etc.) para poder apoyar el

aprendizaje en casa. Además se les pedirá a las familias que

revisen la forma de contacto de emergencia y se ofrecerán a la

venta camisas de uniforme. Se asignará el día una vez que la

escuela haya recibido todos los útiles.

LISTA DE TAREAS ✓ Únase a la PTA (puede recoger la aplicación de membresía

en el Día para Recoger Materiales que se asignará) ✓ Marque en su calendario el 17 de Septiembre de 6-8pm

para la Noche Virtual de Regreso a la Escuela. ✓ Aplique EN LÍnea para ALMUERZO GRATIS Ó REDUCIDO ✓ Motive a su estudiante que practique el entrar a su Salón

Virtual/Google Classroom. Si su estudiante no se acuerda como entrar, por favor contacte al consejero(a) de grado.

Porque debe unirse a la PTA de Bates En Bates somos afortunados de tener una PTA activa. La PTA conecta a los padres con la escuela a través de voluntariado y promoción. Todos los miembros de la comunidad de Bates están invitados a asistir a las reuniones de la PTA y Café con la Directora. Estas reuniones sirven como eventos sociales y foro para discutir las actividades/eventos patrocinados por la PTA y la escuela. Los administradores asisten a estas reuniones y están disponibles para responder sus preguntas.
