DescriptionHave you ever wanted to cosplay with the best of them at Armageddon, Oz Comic Con or Supanova? Do you dream of winning best costume at the office Halloween party? Do you just want to look better in armour? Learn a range of fabrication and design techniques that will take your costume from ‘pretty cool’ to ‘screen accurate’ and beyond.

Content• Intro: how to source reference material, create mock-ups,

test materials• EVA foam: how to seal and paint it, how to heat-set it• Worbla: making armour and other small costume pieces

with this heat-activated material• Leather: basic tooling, moulding, stitching• Ageing-Dying: how to make your costume look lived in• Hair & make-up overview: including tips for heat styling

OutcomeAfter completing this course students should feel confident applying the various techniques they’ve learned to an upcoming costume event.

DeliveryThis course is delivered as a 3 hour evening course or a 3 hour saturday morning course over 6 weeks

Cost

MaterialsStudents should bring along: sketchbook, plastic pocket folder for samples, scissors, pens and pencils; as well as any ideas and sketches that they have for their next Cosplay outfit.

Pre-requisitesBasic hand sewing skills or crafting skills would be helpful.

DeliveryThis course is delivered over 5 weeks, on a Saturday morning 10am-1pm or 5 x weekday evenings 6-9pm. It may also be delivered as an intensive over 3 x Saturday classes10am-3:30pm.

CostThe course fee is $455.

LocationRMIT Brunswick Campus.

TutorClem Bastow is an award-winning journalist with fifteen years’ experience. Her work appears regularly in The Guardian, The Age, The Saturday Paper, Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Life, The Big Issue and ELLE Magazine. In 2016 Clem will be delivering a much anticipated short course at RMIT Brunswick Campus. ‘Cosplay: Techniques for Costume Design & Fabrication’ which will draw upon Clem’s fashion background, specialist costume studies and of course her numerous appearances as a cosplayer.
