Once you have left the port of Marseilles you will arrive to Avignon after approx. 1 hour. Six hundred years ago Avignon had a period

of prosperity thanks to the Pope who moved here with his court. Seven Popes were here one after another from 1309 to 1403.

You will visit the Pope's Palace, which is a palace but also a fortress full of galleries, rooms and chapels that nowadays are empty

and give an image of austerity. Nevertheless the hand made carpets may suggest the vanity of that time. There will be free time for

shopping before returning to the ship.

This excursion is not recommended for guests with mobility problems.

INFORMATIONS

Leaving behind the port of Marseilles in the company of your local guide, you will take the motorway to reach the heart of Provence,

one of France's most fascinating and history-rich regions. You will arrive in Arles, a captivating city with a great many relics of its rich

past: originally Celtic, the city was conquered by the Gauls and later by the Romans, and in medieval times it was a major political

and economic centre. A pleasant stroll in the historic town centre will give you the opportunity to admire some of the most important

monuments, from the ancient amphitheatre to the cathedral, which is a masterpiece of Romanesque art. You will have some free

time to try some French gastronomic specialities and walk around the historic centre: you can use this time to discover and

appreciate the views so beloved of Van Gogh who, attracted by the light in the south of France, came to Arles in 1888 and found

here the inspiration to paint some of the masterpieces that immortalised his talents. The next stop is the stunningly evocative town of

Saint Remy, with its typical Provencal village atmosphere. Your guide will accompany you on a tour of the Church of Saint Martin and

the elegant Renaissance palaces, one of which is the birthplace of Nostradamus, the controversial astrologer, chemist and writer,

famed for his enigmatic prophecies. After some free time for Provencal souvenir shopping you will return to the coach to return to

the port of Marseilles.

INFORMATIONS

This trip will take you to the highly original Guell Park. Gaudì initially envisaged this area as a large English-style park, but successively

its creation was largely entrusted to one of his disciples, Josep Maria Jujol. Its undulating benches covered in ceramic fragments of

many shapes and colours are fascinating objects, whose numerous details and shades will certainly catch your eye. You will have

time to stroll along the paths of this marvellous park, before boarding your coach for the short trip to "Eixample" district, where the

famous "Sagrada Familia" (outside visit only) cathedral is situated. A local guide will give you a detailed commentary of the details of

the façade. Finally, you will have some free time, as many of you will certainly be tempted to do some shopping. Your next stop will

be Casa Mila, better known as "La Pedrera" (The Stone Quarry), which certainly represents Gaudì's most mature work. No other

building could better represent Modernism. This was the last residential building to be designed by Gaudì and was built between

1906 and 1912. It is characterised by a myriad of revolutionary details, which testify to the artist's creativity and extraordinary

technical mastery. The next masterpiece on your itinerary is Casa Batllo, a residential building that exudes dreamlike atmosphere.

You will be able to admire its façade, which is completely covered in a multicoloured mosaic of shiny scales. The same technique has

been used for the roof. The suggestive façade recalls the legend of Saint George and his fight with the dragon: according to this

reading, the cross can be interpreted as the tail of the dragon and the row of balconies as the bones of its victims. On your way back

to the ship you will cross the commercial heart of the old city and of Barcelona itself - the famous Plaza de Catalunya - and the

harbour area.

INFORMATIONS

Barcelona is the western Mediterranean city par excellence, one of the most important in the Mediterranean. Its geographic location

and the open character of its inhabitants are the reasons why the city is being culturally enriched all the time. It has an impressive

architectural and monumental heritage, the most splendid exponents of which are Gothic and Modernist buildings. The entire city

makes visitors enjoy taking a walk around its streets.Beside its cultural and economic history, one of the main reasons of its success

is the great transformation experienced in 1990’s opening the city to the sea as a result of being elected for the organization of

1992 Olympic Games, one of the most important events of Barcelona history.Your tour will depart from the port, for a scenic

panoramic drive, passing through the Barceloneta Quarter or Fisherman Area, the Columbus Monument and the bottom of the

famous promenade of Las Ramblas , Via Laietana, to reach Cataluña square, considered the heart of the city. From here, you will

continue the panoramic drive along Passeig de Gràcia, the best known boulevard in town. Guides will also point you out one of the

masterpieces of Gaudi’s arquitecture: the Palau de la Musica,Manzana de la Discordia and Casa Batllo. Your first stop will be in

Sagrada Familia, which is said to be an icon of Barcelona. This is the place where visitors come to admire one of the most

extraordinary monuments of the world constructed by man. Great medieval cathedrals served as models for this neogothic church

built in modernist style (Catalan version of Art Nouveau). The project and supervising of the works were realized by a genius architect

Antoni Gaudì (at that time was only 30 years old), who was involved in the process until his death. From the outside, guides will offer

you a deep explanation of all the details related to the Temple. Once finished you will proceed to Montjuich Hill which was claimed

by the city on the occasion of the 1929 International Exposition, when the mountain was developed and trade fair halls and sports

installations were constructed as well as the parks and gardens which are to be found all over the mountain. Today represents one of

the most important recreational area in Barcelona. You will pass by the Olimpic Ring and make a brief stop at the Mirador del

Alcalde to get a panoramic view of the city before returning to the ship.

Please note: The tour is mostly by coach. Space is limited, so please book early. For security reasons in case the road to Mount xxx is

closed or covered with snow we will suggest an alternative viewpoint depending on the weather situation.

The first destination on the excursion will be La Sagrada Familia, icon and symbol of the city of Barcelona and a landmark for visitors

from all over the world, often considered to be one of the most extraordinary monuments ever constructed by man. It is an imposing

neo-Gothic church, designed using the great medieval cathedrals as models of reference, and constructed in a modernist style (the

Catalan version of Art Nouveau). The project and its realisation was entrusted to renowned architect Antoni Gaudì (just over thirty

years of age at the time), who worked on it for the rest of his life. Having begun in 1882, work still continues today following the

plans laid down by its designer: the fact that you'll be able to watch one of the masterpieces of world architecture being constructed

before your very eyes will make your visit even more fascinating. Your guide will show you the two completed facades (the Nativity

and the Passion facades) and will then lead you inside the church where expert craftsmen continue to work on a masterpiece in

constant evolution. Next it's on Passeig de Gràcia, the trendiest boulevard in town that hosts the most impressive modernist

buildings. Casa Batlló is a building restored by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, and Josep Maria Jujol. The house was built

in 1877 and remodeled in the years 1904-1906. You will be able to enjoy a unique, unusual and exceptional experience in a piece

that it is more than just a building; it is among the all-time legends of world art, architecture and design. A reference point of

modernism that seduces with its allegorical values, starting from its peculiar Façade, that recalls the legend of Saint George and his

fight with the dragon. Your trip will end at the famous “ Manzana de la Discordia” (Block of Discord); so named because various

traders and aristocrat families wanted their houses done in the latest style and each hired a different architect. After we will walk till

Palau de la Musica Catalana located next to the Gothic Quarter, designed by Lluis Domènech i Montaner. The Palau de la Música

Catalana is one of the most unique concert venues in the world and one of the most representative monuments of Catalan Art

Nouveau, really impressive from outside as well.

INFORMATIONS

Your tour starts with a drive along the Maritime Promenade reaching the Bellver Castle, one of the most important examples of

Gothic civil architecture in Mallorca. Not far from the centre of the city, the castle of the “beautiful views” watches over the port. It

was built by Jaume II at the beginning of the 14th century. It was conceived as a defensive redoubt and royal residence. But it

became most famous ( or infamous ) as a prison, from the Middle Ages until the Civil War. Among many others, the enlightenment

encyclopaedist Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos was a prisoner here for six years. Only four months after Jovellanos got out. the young

French Physicist François Arago had his adventure in the castle.Next stop will be near the Cathedral which presides the city and

frames the silhouette of the city. Constructed between the 13th and the 14th century it is one of the finest pure Gothic examples of

the continent. Next to it stands the Almudaina Palace, a monument which was converted from an Arab fortress into the residence of

the Kings of Mallorca. Guides will point out the most important aspects of this monument from the outside.Next, you will be driven to

the Bull Ring ( 1929 ) that is a late work. Even so, it is within the modernist current. specifically its historicist tendency inspired by

elements characteristic of the baroque. The building is perfectly worked out. with four main boxes oriented to the cardinal points.

Finished this stop, you will be driven to the ship.

We recommend to wear comfortable walking shoes. You must climb approximately 100 steps in order to visit to the outside of the

cathedral.

as Barolo wine, the true "king" of the table and the truffle, the rare fruit of this land. The suggestive and poetic landscape is covered

with vineyards and hamlets keeping intact their Medieval allure and castles overlooking pleasant hills and hollows. The tour will start

with a bus transfer to Langa. After arrival in Barolo a guided walk through the hamlet will take place. Our next stop is in La Morra, an

amazing balcony leaning on hills and vineyards of Langa. Here we will visit a family owned vinery and a wine tasting of high-quality

wines will take place. Further we will visit Alba, the famous capital of Langhe and famous for great Piedmont wines. You will join a

guided walk through the historical center which leads you to our next stop for a tasting of the famous and rare Tuber Magnatum

Pico truffle. After this gourmet day you will return to the ship by bus.
