Dear Parents/Guardians,
Chemistry students test the validity and concentration of our trusty Vitamin C
Visiting the Year 11 and Year 12 Chemistry class was quite a hoot. Thanks to the students for
correcting my pronunciation. I had to laugh as they were very impressed, as was I, as they broke
down all terms and experimentation methods. Who had any idea that Vitamin C could entail such
complexities! All students had heads down, reading and gathering required information to ensure
their upcoming experimentation will be a success. VCE students are working towards individual
experimentations as they investigate concentration of Vitamin C, or should I say ascorbic acid,
within and across varying brands of the same concentration, varying forms, and what the effect
temperature has on the nature of the acid, therefore compromising its purpose and to what degree.
The Year 11s are working towards testing the theories around acid as a proton donor and a base as a proton
acceptor. Through this, they will be testing PH levels and reactions of the acid bases. However their primary
goal for the day was to learn all the varying concepts and metalanguage to ensure they could verbalise their
practical applications. Between their steadfast work, they attempted to convince me that this class has the
most amazing students in the school! Yes, they are amazing, their pride in
explaining and breaking down concepts for me was inspiring and affirming that
we have great teachers and moreover, brilliant kids in our college. I have to note,
Ms Kane is unaware that this photo was going to KIT, however how could I miss
out the teacher that these students enthralled in preparing their experimentations.
I’ll be back to see these experiments in action!
Who wants to be a journalist!?
Well done to Ryan Norman, who had an article printed in the local Corryong Courier. Ryan reported
on the enthralling Year 9/10 Ski Trip that recently took place. Ryan entailed the combining of forces of
the college and CNC to create a brilliant trip for all students, staff, and a couple of our great
volunteers. The exhilarating freedom of being able to ski over 1,110 acres, blessed with sun and 1m of
snow pre-trip were the highlights expressed whilst Ryan also mentioned the blistering winds that were
unable to ‘dampen the mood or destroy any beauty of the great Australian Alps’. The article was
written with sophistication and dexterity. I am hoping this will encourage and inspire other students to
follow this lead. I look forward to seeing more students working on their writing skills to have more
student-written articles in the local paper. Well done Ryan!
What is our school community to our students, moreover our teachers?
Previously, I have had a couple of teachers write about who they really are, why they chose teaching and what their passions
are. It’s lovely to know one’s story as insight into who they really are. Ms Sandra Kovacic has been a great addition to the
Corryong College community. Otherwise known as Miss K, Sandra inspires the students to take on the world of English,
Humanities and Psychology. In her words, a little insight into Miss K:
I moved up from Melbourne with my pug, Basil, who you may have already met if you’ve wandered down Harris Street, out
the front of the IGA or down at the football. After completing my Secondary teaching degree at Melbourne University in 2013,
I used these skills to pursue a management role running a franchise in Melbourne’s Inner North. I began doing CRT and
VCAA exam supervision around the same area to gain experience when suddenly, a job opportunity arose in an area of
Victoria I had no idea about. Hence began my Corryong life chapter!
As a high school student, I was blessed with great teachers who were very supportive of
education and well-being. I got to know my teachers very well over the years and a few stuck
with me as being the most influential adults in my life. Feeling inspired, I continued studying my
love of Psychology through a Bachelor of Arts at Victoria University which lead me to complete
Secondary Teaching post-grad.

These special women didn’t just teach me words in a book but instilled valuable life skills about how to be myself around others and
how to love myself. Between a family separation, a death of a grandparent and a school friend with cancer (all in VCE), my
teachers and friends at school were my haven for stability and comfort in an otherwise emotionally-turbulent world. After finally
achieving my dreams of becoming a teacher, I can only hope that one day I can be that person to just one of my students across my
career.
Corryong is such a beautiful place and I’m glad I have felt so welcome and have made some great friends in such a short time. I
look forward to making plenty of memories in my time here in this wonderful part of the world!
Miss Sandra Kovacic.
Another successful Book Week showcasing our students’ love of imagination!
This week, the college celebrated Book Week. Thanks to Ms Sarah Austin, who created a brilliant display of
Aboriginal texts in the senior library. Many of these books entail eye opening stories of hardship and triumphs
of some of our great Australian Aboriginal heroes. Its lovely to see students reading these texts as a way of
learning the culture of our ancestors and traditional custodians of this land.
At the junior campus, the students and moreover the staff dressed as their favourite characters. The parade was
a display of colour and creation. Wow, there was a lot of parents helping out days before! Good on all of you
for getting involved! Our students are so heightened about being involved of such a great event. It is a
reminder of the great importance that story can have in our students to build their imagination, creativity and
self expression.
I am looking forward to another great week
ahead!

Wow Wow Wow
What a great week we have had at the
Junior Campus. All the students went
for a visit to the town library for
special book week activities. It was
lovely to see all the effort and thought
the parents and children had put into
their costumes for the big parade on
Friday. Everyone looked amazing.
These members of the leadership team are also
available for hire. They have gone into
warehouse logistics. Beth, Jess, Ava, Charlotte
and Tara were moving stock in preparation for
the School Social. With a smile on their dials,
they had already done a test run with Jess on the
trolley making sure they could move stock
without spilling any. Why would you work
anywhere else? Corryong College is the place to
be.

To all Corryong CFA Advance crew and parents
The 2017 Competition is on in Corryong on Tuesday 15th September, running from approximately 8.30am to
3.20pm.
Students will need to wear their ‘blues’ and bring their ‘yellows’.
Bus travellers may travel to school via their normal bus if they wish. Breakfast will be available for all CFA
students from around 8.30am and some will be set aside for Corryong bus travellers.
As we are hosting this training day we ask all CFA students bring a plate of something to share at morning tea.
Please use paper plate/ice-cream container etc as the students are notoriously bad at remembering to take home
their Tupperware containers…. These items can be left at the home eco room at breakfast/briefing.
Breakfast (8.30am at ‘A’ block), morning tea and lunch will also be provided.
Huge thankyou to Sharyn and all the parents who have offered to help out with
the catering for us.
If it looks like rain, please bring a change for on the way home.

Hello from the KEAPS team
Corryong Primary School has volunteered to take part in the KEAPS early intervention program for children in their early years of primary school. KEAPS is run in partnership between the Albury Wodonga Health Service and North East Hume region schools. It is staffed by health professionals specialising in early emotional and social development, together with school teachers and educational staff to promote an ongoing positive school experience.
Our program will be running for a six week period during Term 4. We will be running fun classroom activities on Tuesdays with children from Foundation to Grade 1 to promote social skills, encourage children to manage their strong emotions and develop strong problem solving skills.
We encourage parents and carers to chat with their child’s classroom teacher or the KEAPS team on 02 6051 7900 if they have any questions about their child’s involvement in the KEAPS activities.
