Welcome back to Kindergarten to all of our families. All of the children have settled back into the Kindergarten environment, with lots of lively conversation amongst the group on our first morning walk. During indoor play the children immediately engaged with all of the play materials and the entire room was transformed into several cubbies of various sizes. We look forward to our ongoing work with the children this term and sharing their knowledge and experience of kindergarten life and one another.

On Wednesday 24 October, 8.50-12.30pm, we shall hold our gardening morning for Term 4. Our focus for the morning will be to tidy the Kindergarten garden for Spring Fair, so please bring along gloves and gardening tools.

During Weeks 3 and 4 of this term each of the children from the older group will complete their Class 1 readiness assessment with our learning support team. They will collect two children and work with them in the student support classrooms. Louise Schnitzhofer our visiting Anthroposophical Homeopath will be attending Kindergarten in the coming weeks to conduct observations of the older group children in support of these assessments. I have met with the Student Support Team and Louise and I shall arrange child discussion times with individual families.

Many thanks to Janelle Owen and Bev Whitehead for co-ordinating the Treasure Cave for this year’s Spring Fair on Saturday 27 October. Thank you also to our families for your contributions, I know there is already talk among the school children about what treasures they will discover on the day. Please continue to support this event by placing your name onto the roster that Janelle shall be circulating.

During this term the students have used acrylic on canvas to try to evoke some of the atmosphere of the camel trek.

Welcome to Term 4.

We have had a wonderful start to Bush Kindy with children settling into play with purpose. The wet start has brought lovely experiences that I’m sure we won’t see towards the end of our time at Bush Kindy as the warmth of summer comes. The water element brings many possibilities to the children’s play. Groups of children have been dotted around the space cubby building, sliding down slippery slopes, making rods to go fishing, using the rope swing, creating in the sand pile and teaching each other clapping songs. Children are finding the rhythm of jumping as we bring out the large skipping rope and children’s chatter and storytelling can be heard as they sit together and whittle. Our bush hut is also full of activity as children help to prepare our meals. Bush Kindy has been a very busy place.

Please remember that Wednesday 24 October is our gardening day. On this day we will not be at Bush Kindy. Drop off in the morning and pick up at lunch time will be at Nightingale Kindy. We appreciate any parent help as we do a general tidy of our garden in preparation for the Spring Fair. The Spring Fair is just around the corner. Please check the roster for a time slot that you are able to help out in the Kindy Café. Also, there is a roster on the notice board with times for child discussions for the younger children. Please add your name and speak with me if there is no suitable time slot.

The countdown is well and truly on for our Spring Fair at the end of this week - Saturday 27 October 2018! The Welcome to Country will commence just after 10am and Class 4 Maypole Dance around 10:30am; don’t miss those early events!

Thank you to all parents who have been working tirelessly to get everything organised for our major school fundraiser! It is shaping up nicely and excitement is building.

Thank you also to parents and students who are about to gear up and get last minute things organised, cakes baked, craft items finished, stall rosters organised etc.

We hope you have enjoyed working with fellow school parents to bring it all together. A few updates for everyone leading up to the big day include:

Publicity. The BEST way to increase numbers at our school fair and to make this a successful fundraiser is by personal invitation and word of mouth. Please remember to invite your friends and family. Nothing works better than a personal approach. Please call, text, email and Facebook your friends and family personally so they know you are wanting them to join you on this special day.

To increase our online reach please jump onto Facebook and regularly like, comment and share our posts in the Mount Barker Spring Fair Facebook page, and remember to ‘invite’ friends to the Spring Fair ‘event’ on Facebook also.

Parking at the school will be limited so we encourage school parents to park in the light industrial area on Oborn Road behind the school, as we have gained permission from the businesses to do so. A short walk to the gardens at the back of the school will bring you straight into the fair. Disabled parking will be available on site for people with mobility issues, and a passenger drop off area will be available at the school bus stop area.

Raffle books are due back by Friday 26 October 2018. Please return ALL unsold books as well.

A BIG apology to Nathan Doble and family for our error in the Raffle Books. We have NOT included their business name Hahndorf Tour Bus as our MAJOR prize!! We are VERY sorry for this mistake. We look forward to promoting this school family business in the upcoming newsletter, but for now here is the link to the business. For tours around the hills and Barossa, buses are available for charter. offering excellent charter prices for schools, seniors, church and community groups. Why not consider using Hahndorf Tour Bus for a winery tour or fundraiser. https://www.facebook.com/hahndorftourbus

Personal Development

The Complete Leader

A comprehensive foundation course in leadership for Steiner school communities

and other related organisations

Registrations now open for the 2019 program

(Four 3-day workshops over the course of the year)

Everyone in an organisation or community has the capacity to display leadership qualities. The challenge is to build a leadership culture that moves away from power and authority being vested in a few to a distributed leadership model that enables all people to take their true places in social life. The Complete Leader program is a journey of discovery and growth, with the focus on leadership as it relates to self-development, interpersonal skills, team development, and organisation development. Through a range of engaging activities and interactive exercises, the program demystifies leadership and enables participants to build a repertoire of transformational leadership insights and skills. The program is aimed at heads of school, administrators, teachers, board members and parents.

The program is facilitated by David Liknaitzky, who has 30 years’ experience as an independent organisation development consultant, based on an anthroposophical foundation. He runs spiritatwork, a consultancy that empowers leaders to think creatively and strategically about leadership and organisation development, and to build ethical and collaborative workplaces. David has had a long-standing involvement with the Steiner school movement in Australia and other parts of the world., assisting schools with leadership and other issues. He is currently enrolled in the Arts PhD program at the University of Melbourne, focusing on trust-based leadership. He is a Professional Support Panel Member of Steiner Education Australia.
