Once again, the Viper world is rejoicing with the win at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Congratulations to the entire team and everyone supporting them! I'm writing this sitting in my oce just wondering when Ohio weather will let us drive our Vipers again without the need for snow chains. It is really noisy inside the Viper with those chains making contact with the pavement! Hopefully everyone has heard: the Viper is a go for the 2016 model year, the release of the ACR, and also the rumors of a 770 HP supercharged model. Let's hope all of these are true. If you missed the Plant Tour and Detroit Auto Show, you missed a good one since Ohio was the first club to get to tour the plant in 2015. We have our next club meeting coming up (Feb.21st) in Columbus at the Wagner-Hagans Automotive Museum and lunch at the Hollywood Casino. Please make sure if you plan on attending that you don't bring anyone under the age of 21 as they will not get into the Hollywood Casino. Our next big event will be the Ultimate Viper Party in Columbus in April. We are really trying to make this the biggest and best event since the club is celebrating our 20th year. It is my 18th year in the club, and they have just been great years with tons of memories that most car people could only dream of. Not to mention the number of friends that I've made since then thru the club has just been impressive. Everyone should have received your Viper calendar and if not, please contact one of the board members to get a replacement to you or you can also purchase more of them if needed. I want to say a big "Thank You" to everyone involved with making this a really great calendar. Please use the calendar as a tool for keeping track of all our upcoming events. And try hard to come out and enjoy the events - we have them for all club members to enjoy with their cars. 2015 Ohio VOA CAAP Tour

Every year, the Ohio VOA is lucky enough to be able to make a pilgrimage to the Viper’s birthplace, Conner Avenue, in Detroit. Being that Ohio is within a few hours driving distance, this makes the trip very feasible compared to most regions. On January 23rd, 30 members of the Ohio chapter once again descended on Detroit for the tour that never gets old regardless of how many times you have gone. !

!For those who have not been to Conner Avenue Assembly Plant (CAAP for short), it is situated in the heart of older Detroit and use to be the home of Champion spark plugs. In 1995, Chrysler acquired the plant and reconditioned it to build the Viper and eventually the Prowler. From 2010 till 2012, the plant sat idle while the fate of the Viper was decided in dark boardrooms with men who’s passion for cars lay in dollar signs and not snake logos. When the Gen 5 was finally given a green light, the plant was renovated by the plant employees and rebuilt into the plant you will see in the photos. Unlike many plants, the engine is fully hand assembled in the same room the actual cars are built. Once the engine is fully assembled, every engine is sent across town to Arrow Racing where the engine is run on a dyno and evaluated for performance and quality. Once the tests have been passed, the engine is shipped back to CAAP and installed into the vehicle frame with the matching Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).!

!The Viper itself is also hand built along a very short assembly line and as is the case, each Viper is somewhat unique compared to the mass volume cars like Corvette. Words do not adequately describe the emotion that is felt while standing beside the assembly line and watching another Viper fire up for the first time.

!Once the tour of CAAP is complete, everyone has a chance to shop their hearts out at the exclusive CAAP Viper store. With many cool items not available anywhere else, this store is a Viper enthusiasts worst nightmare! One would be wise to leave their credit card at home as people walking out with multiple bags under their arms has been witnessed multiple times. !

!With the tour complete, the club was off to world famous pizza house, Buddies Pizza for a giant pizza lunch. With lunch complete, it was off to the Detroit Auto Show to see what Chrysler’s latest offerings were. After the auto show, it was time for everyone to get back on the road and head home with images of Viper still dancing in their heads. !

!If you have never make the January trek to Detroit with the club for their annual winter tour, consider it next year. As our cars sleep and we dream about spring, a tour of CAAP can help hold you over until spring. It could also go the complete opposite way and give you a massive shot of Viper Venom. Either way, you will be glad you went. !
