THE LOCKDOWN START How do you know

when the school is going on a lock down?

Simple…you will hear the principal, a teacher or other school staff person say the words WE ARE IN A

LOCKDOWN!”

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

DURING A LOCKDOWN

Page 4: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

1. Do exactly what you are told by school staff!

This includes substitutes!

If you are in the hallway when a lockdown starts go into the nearest room, even if it is not yours. Teachers will be looking out in the hall and will tell you to come in their rooms. That is ok!

Do what the teacher tells you and stay as quiet as you can!

Page 5: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

2. Students cannot use cell phones during a lock down.

If you try to use your cell phone, the teacher will take it away from you. Keep your cell phones off.

Page 6: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

3. Sit on the floor, away from the windows and doors.

Page 7: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

4. Be Quiet! SHHHHHH!

You need to remain as quiet as possible.

If there is an active shooter in the school, he or she will be listening to see which rooms contain students.

So it is important to be very quiet.

Page 8: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

5. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR FOR ANYONE!

Page 9: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If the principal or police want in, they will have a key. Do not open the door for anyone!

DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR!

6. What if you are out of your classroom when the

lock down begins?

The Bathroom

THE BATHROOM

Page 12: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If you are in a bathroom, quietly check to see if you see a school staff member in the hall. If you see a teacher, quickly and quietly go into their class.

If you can’t find a safe place to go, quietly close the outer door; get into the farthest bathroom stall; sit on the toilet and stay quiet until a police officer comes to get you.

2. THE FIELD

Page 14: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If you are out on the field, (whether it is during recess or PE), and you hear the notice that we are in a lockdown, do the following…

Kneel down on one knee, look for a duty

teacher; they will give you instructions

on what to do and where to go. Most likely the Multipurpose Room (MPR)

Page 15: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

3. MPR

Page 16: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

Sit quiet and wait for the adult in the room to give you directions..

The teacher on duty will close the doors, turn out the lights and they may even guide you as to where to sit, away from the door and windows.

Remain in the MPR until the lockdown is over.

4. HALLWAY

Page 18: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If you happen to be in the hallway, look for a teacher because they will be looking for you.

Go into any classroom and follow the teachers instructions.

If you happen to be confronted by police, follow their instructions.

5. ADMINISTRATION OFFICES

Page 20: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If you are near the front desk, go to the library or art room. Lock the door, stay away from the windows, sit in the furthest corner where no one can see you. You are to remain in those areas until someone with keys comes to retrieve you. Do not open the door. Administration or police will have keys.

Your teacher or a staff member may guide you off campus if the threat is inside the school. We have established a safe spot across Wilshire Ave. called Sennheiser. This may be a place where they will take you.

You will remain in these safe places until the teacher brings you back to the school or a Police Officer comes to get you.

Page 21: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

WHAT IF YOU SEE A SUSPECT?

Page 22: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

DO NOT confront him or her! RUN to the nearest classroom. IF you are outside RUN

to the safe place! (MPR or Sennheiser)

If you think someone on campus is dangerous, report it to a teacher or duty

right away.

If you see a suspect…

Page 23: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

If you think someone on campus is dangerous, report it to a teacher or duty right away.

If the school is already on lockdown, stay where you are and be as quiet as you can to help keep yourself safe. If you see a police officer, call for help.

If you see a suspect…

Page 24: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

What if you come across a police officer?

Page 25: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

Follow their commands and do as you are told.

They will not hurt you; they are there to help

Go where they tell you to go, not to where

you want to go. Remember, this is not a game. Take this

seriously and be responsible.

Page 26: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

WHEN IS IT OVER!Remember while you are in

a lockdown, people are working very hard to bring the situation to an end!

The lock down is not over until you hear the “ALL CLEAR, This Lock Down is over” command or a Police Officer comes to get you.

Page 27: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

THINGS TO CONSIDER!

If asked, quietly help the teacher block the door with classroom furniture.

If the shooter gets in your room, throw things at the shooter and try to run away. Do whatever you can to stay alive.

If there is not an adult to tell you what to do and you can run away: RUN AWAY!

Page 28: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

Please remain calm during the lockdown. You are safer when you remain calm.

DO NOT PANIC!!!

Page 29: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

BE CALM

You think better and make better decisions when you are calm.

You also listen better.

BUT REMEMBER THAT IF THE SHOOTER IS IN YOUR ROOM, RUN AWAY OR WORK TOGETHER TO FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!

Page 30: Corrales International School STAFF, STUDENT AND COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN TRAINING

IN CONCLUSION

Think smart, act smart

Be calm

Do what you are told

Know that a lot of people are in the

building helping to keep you safe

Make choices that will make your family proud
