From The Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners,

The day after Pentecost we began Ordinary Time. Howev-er, for the next two weekends we celebrate two important feast days: Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi Sunday. This weekend our focus will be on the Holy Trinity. We profess that God has revealed Himself as three distinct yet equal persons subsisting in one Essence – God Eternal and Al-mighty. This is indeed a profound mystery of our Christian faith. The human mind cannot comprehend how God can be three persons while at the same time one essence. However, we know that Jesus revealed to His disciples that whoever sees Him sees the Father and that “the Father and I are one.” Clearly, the scribes and Pharisees knew exactly what Jesus meant by this statement and took up rocks to stone Our Lord to death. At every mass, we begin in the name of the Holy Trinity and we end in the name of the Trinity, by the sign of the cross. We do so for every prayer and every devotional. The fabric of our lives is wrapped in the life of the Holy Trinity. The Trinity represents the perfect family –Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In fact, the human family is a reflection of the family of the Trinity. What binds this Trinitarian family is love. In fact, the Holy Spirit is the active agent, the dynamic force that moves these relationships in the Trinity. Let ask the Holy Trinity to guide us and help us to remain firmly root-ed in the Church which is the Family of God.

This Sunday our children will make their First Holy Com-munion at the 11 a.m. mass. Please pray for them and their family members on this special day. Also, the bishop will be here on Thursday, May 31st at 6 p.m. to confirm our young adults and to initiate four adults. Please join us for this spe-cial day. Both events will have receptions in the Marian Hall afterwards. SAVE THE DATE: Fr. Mooney’s 50th Priestly Anniversary Cele-bration. Saturday, June 9th @ Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mass at 4 p.m. Vigil followed by Dinner Reception in Marian Hall. You will need to purchase a ticket for the reception. This weekend is the last weekend to purchase the dinner tickets.

And now some funnies:

#1 - For the umpteenth time Mrs. Youngston came to her pastor to tell him, "I'm so scared! Joe says he's going to kill me if I continue to come to your church." "Yes, yes, my child," replied the pastor, more than a little tired of hearing this over and over. "I will continue to pray for you, Mrs. Youngston. Have faith - the Lord will watch over you." "Oh yes, he has kept me safe thus far, only....." "Only what, my child?" "Well, now he says if I keep coming to your church, he's

going to kill YOU!" "Well, now," said the pastor, "Perhaps it's time to check out that little church on the other side of town."

#2 – A businessman was in a great deal of trouble. His busi-ness was failing, he had put everything he had into the busi-ness, he owed everybody it was so bad he was even contem-plating suicide. As a last resort he went to a pastor and poured out his story of tears and woe. When he had finished, the pastor said, "Here's what I want you to do, put a beach chair and your Bible in your car and drive down to the beach. Take the beach chair and the Bible to the water's edge, sit down in the beach chair, and put the Bible in your lap. Open the Bible; the wind will rifle the pages, but finally the open Bible will come to rest on a page. Look down at the page and read the first thing you see. That will be your answer, that will tell you what to do." A year later the businessman went back to the pastor and brought his wife and children with him. The man was in a new custom- tailored suit, his wife in a mink coat, the chil-dren shining. The businessman pulled an envelope stuffed with money out of his pocket and gave it to the pastor as a donation in thanks for his advice. The pastor recognized the benefactor, and was curious. "You did as I suggested?" he asked. "Absolutely," replied the businessman. "You went to the beach?" "Absolutely." "You sat in a beach chair with the Bible in your lap?" "Absolutely." "You let the pages rifle until they stopped?" "Absolutely." "And what were the first words you saw?" "Chapter 11." #3 - An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and for her boldness in talking about it. She would stand on her front porch and shout "PRAISE THE LORD!" Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, "There ain't no Lord!!" Hard times set in on the elderly lady, and she prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted "PRAISE THE LORD!" Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, "There ain't no Lord!!" Hard times set in on the elderly lady, and she prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted "PRAISE THE LORD. GOD I NEED FOOD!! I AM HAVING A HARD TIME. PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GRO-CERIES!!" The next morning the lady went out on her porch and noted a large bag of groceries and shouted, "PRAISE THE LORD." The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, "Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries, God didn't." The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and said, "PRAISE THE LORD. He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them. Praise the Lord!" Fr. Murphy

DIVINE MERCY CORNER

Although My greatness is beyond understanding, I commune only with those who are little. I demand of you a childlike spirit (332) True greatness of the soul is in loving God and in humility (427) Know that a pure soul is humble. When you lower and empty yourself before my majesty, I then pursue you with My graces and make use of My omnipotence to exalt you (576) I want to teach you spiritual childhood. I want you to be very little, because when you are little, I carry you close to My Heart (1481) Your simplicity is more pleasing to Me than your mortifications (1617)
