CSR activities in brief
Feeding Children Better - a community initiative
Agro Tech Foods Limited recognizes the importance of contributing to society in a
meaningful way. The initiative taken in this direction is the Feeding Children Better
program.
The Feeding Children Better program is drawn up in a manner relevant to Agro Tech’s core
business - Foods. One nourishing meal a day is provided to underprivileged children at
carefully selected schools across the country. We ensure that the meal is compatible with
local food habits and provides about 650 kilocalories per child per meal.
Launched on November 8, 2002 at Hyderabad, the Feeding Children Better Program now
extends to 5 schools and reaches out to more than 1500 children across the country.
* Shekinah Residential School for Disabled, located at Hayath Nagar in Hyderabad. The
school has 152 children, 110 of whom are physically challenged and 42 are day scholars from
the neighbouring locality.
* 'Balwadi' run by Aparjita Mahila Samiti in Delhi. The 'Balwadi' has 50 children, who
come from economically backward families in the age group of 4 - 12 years.
* School for 600 street children, run the All India Women’s Conference Buniadi Bidyapith
at Kolkata.
* School run by Parikrma Humanity Foundation at Bangalore where 100 children attend.
* School for slum children run by Barrackpore Avenue Welfare, Kolkata.
* School run by Bahrat Sevashram Sangha, Kolkata.
* Food partner with PVR Nest, Delhi for their Street to School Project under which one
nutritional meal is provided to 150 children.
Besides providing the mid-day meal, various activities such as New Year lunch, meeting
expenses of sports day, donation for a event on New Year, screening of a movie, medical
camp, tour of Hyderabad city have been conducted.
At these schools, the Feeding Children Better program has had a significant impact in terms
of increasing the attendance and bringing the number of malnourished children to nil.
ATFL employees also take ownership of the Feeding Children Better program by voluntarily
contributing towards special meals, donating physio-therapeutic equipment, computers,
books and bookshelves, etc. They also make periodic visits to the schools to interact with the
children and join them for a meal.
Through the Feeding Children Better program Agro Tech Foods hopes to make a difference
in the lives of many more children in future.

The above rating scale has been developed by me. It has 6 levels (Level 0 to level 5), Level 0
being lowest and Level 5 being the highest. As we know Karmayog has three criteria’s
(Necessary, sufficient and negative), each having its own levels. It is a bit confusing to
understand it; hence I have created a rating scale which is simpler and easy to understand
after going through the chapter of CSR in the textbook.
Analysis and Findings
Karmayog has rated Agro Tech Foods Ltd 0/5 for the year (2009/10); I would
disagree with them as CSR activity done by Agro Tech Foods Ltd has won an award
in 2010 for the uniqueness in their CSA activity. Agro Tech Foods Feeding Children
Better program was awarded a Certificate of Merit at the 5th Social and Corporate
Governance Awards 2010 held on February 13th, 2010 at Bombay Stock Exchange,
Mumbai for “Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practice".
My Rating of Agro Tech Foods Ltd is 2/5 for following unique CSR activity/practice.
.
Karmayog has Rated Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd. 0/5 for the year (2009/10).I
would agree with Karmayog as Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd. Has done no CSR
activity in past year or even before, but their construction business is harming the
environment as they take part in deforestation and lost o habitat.
My Rating for Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd is 0/5 as they have not done any CSR
activity.
