ForewordDear reader,

Studio 100 was founded in 1996. Since then we have continued to pursue the same goal: to create fun for children and their mums and dads, their brothers and sisters and friends; also known as ‘quality time’ to use a fashionable term.

Watching Maya the Bee on TV, dancing to a CD of the kids band K3; visiting a swinging pirate pete show, experiencing unforgettable fun at plopsaland, etc. This is what it is all about: the excitement children feel in anticipation of a visit to one of our theme parks, the shrieks of laughter as Gnome Lazy takes a short nap, yet again, and the wonder they feel at a new mystery unfolding in the House of anubis. This is what feeds our sense of entrepreneurialism.

Our success shows there is a great demand for quality family entertainment with cute characters who are easy to relate to and shows with powerful and interesting content. And most importantly: without any aggression or violence.

Studio 100 is a great success story. A success story we are expanding worldwide, with partners who share the same goals; making children’s dreams come true. Nothing more and definitely nothing less than that.

How do we do it? We will explain it to you in detail in this brochure. You will be able to see for yourself how well we understand the world children live in and that we know exactly how to amuse them, move them and enthuse them.

To be precise: TV and music are the primary platforms for launching Studio 100. This is where the brand and product awareness is formed. We then further build the content and characters in multimedia such as theme parks, theatre shows, movies, CDs, books, merchandising, licences, etc. Another important aspect is our long-term partnerships with privileged media, licensing, distribution and project partners. And with success, as this brochure demonstrates.

To translate imagination and dreams into TV programmes, songs, books and theme park characters, you need creativity and innovation. Fortunately these are the strong

1996 Studio 100 had 5 employees and 1 production: Samson & Gert.

2010 Studio 100 has more than 1000 employees and dozens of popular characters, is the owner of one of the largest indepen-dent catalogues of children’s TV series in the world, achieves gigantic sales and distributes TV series in more than 100 countries.

This growth is without doubt simply spectacular and is the result of a healthy dose of ambition combined with solid business sense. An overview.

2010Plopsa Indoor Coevorden opened its doors.

This is the first indoor fun park of Studio 100

in the Netherlands, and the fourth in total

for Studio 100.

And�the�future?

The future looks very promising. In the

Benelux countries we were already number

one in children’s entertainment, now we are

also becoming an international standard

with an integrated formula that has earned

its reputation. For example four fun parks

are planned in Germany.

In addition to achieving a strong grounding

in German-speaking Europe, this also gives

us an international network to distribute

quality TV programmes in more than 100

countries.

What’s more, we are looking forward to

collaborating with the biggest TV

1996Studio�100�was�founded

by Hans Bourlon, Gert Verhulst and

Danny Verbiest. Samson & Gert is

the only production at that time.

2008Studio 100 took over the German company EM�Entertain-

ment. The result: we now own a large independent catalogue

of content, characters and classics such as Maya the Bee, Vicky

the Viking and Pippi Longstocking and have now immediately

become a big player in German-language Europe.

Studio 100 also became the owner of Flying Bark, the most

successful studio for animation series in Australia.

Studio�100�Animation opened its doors in the French capi-

tal Paris. This company is specialised in cartoons for the whole

family and plans to make remakes of classics such as Maya the

Bee as well as its own creations.

Studio�100�TV�went live, to the great delight of tens of

thousands of little viewers.

1999Studio 100 took over the Meli fun park

on the Belgian coast and transformed

it into Plopsaland. The park grew

into the most�visited�theme�park

in Belgium.

2005More theme parks were opened. Plopsa�Indoor

in Hasselt for example. An indoor park of this

magnitude was unique�in�Europe.

Another milestone in 2005: for the first time TV�

content was made in�a�different�language than

Dutch, namely French, for the Wallonian market. At the

same time Studio 100 took over the fun�park�at�the�

waterfalls�of�Coo in French-speaking Belgium.

2006 Studio 100 crossed the border and was determined

to become a big European player.

To realise national and international expansion,

extra�financial�means were sought and found.

Fortis Private Equity became 1/3 part

shareholder of the group.

2007 Studio 100 founded Studio 100 Media in

Munich. This company distributes TV series

worldwide and was the first point of entry to

the German market for the group.

More�than�just�making�programmes·� Own�television�channelsStudio 100 starts its own TV channels, usually in collaboration with long-term partners. We launched Studio 100 TV in Belgium in collabora-tion with Telenet. With the biggest Belgian commercial channel we created children’s channel Kzoom. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland we broadcast Junior Channel, also in collaboration with local digital channels (Sky and Cablecom). Worldwide many other partnerships are currently in the making.

·� Video�On�DemandRainy day? No problem: parents can summon Studio 100’s top productions any time they want to give their children a happy afternoon. Birthday party? Everyone can dance to music by K3 thanks to Video On Demand. We are currently working with large digital channels in Belgium, the USA, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, etc.

Hours�of�fun��for�everyoneTV is the perfect platform for Studio 100 to introduce new characters. Samson & Gert, Plop the Gnome, Pirate Pete… they all became big on the little screen. This is also the case for our more recent productions such as Mega Mindy and The House of Anubis. The latter successful series has been picked up by Nickelodeon in the Netherlands, in Germany and - a first for a European production - in the United States. No wonder: viewing figures rose sharply thanks to our series.

From live action to animation: it was the next logical step for

Studio 100. we are doing more than following a trend.

we have created our own animation department with two top

creators from the sector: the australian Flying Bark and Studio 100

animation in paris. in other words, we are now setting the trend.

New�characters��and�timeless�hit�showsFlying Bark in Sidney has developed wildly popular shows

such as Zigby and Dive Olly Dive. Both are being broadcast by major international broadcasters.

But Studio 100 goes a step further, our animation studios in Paris blow new life into much loved cartoon characters from our own - and your - childhood. Maya the Bee,

Vicky the Viking, Heidi, etc. Millions of viewers worldwide - young and old -

are watching our remakes of these classics; just ask our French,

German and Canadian co-producers who broadcast our films.

ANIMATION

vicky the viking is: a Viking boy who lives in the Norse village of Flake with his mother Ylva and father Halvar, the most stubborn Viking leader of all times. Vikings are strong, cool men. But Vicky is different. He is sweet, gentle…and very smart. And that’s just as well, because he gets caught up in one rollicking adventure after another.

One�box�office�hit�after�another��Feature films are an important vehicle for us to bring popular Studio 100 characters even more to life for children. How good do our movies score in the box office? In the Benelux countries we have been at the top of the box office for years in children’s movies. ‘Anubis and the Path of Seven Sins’ was even the most successful movie in the Dutch movie theatres in 2008.

And this is just the beginning. Our new heroes such as Maya the Bee and Vicky the Viking are opening up new perspectives. These lovable characters are new to most children, but old familiars for most parents, and worldwide too. So they too will visit our movies and bring their children along in droves.

The movie theatre successes are moreover finding continuation in the increasing DVD sales and growing use of Video On Demand and Pay TV.

the House of anubis is: a dramatic teen soap about a group of school children at a boarding school. They each have their own story, their own history and follow their own path to adulthood. When they discover that their boarding school has a mysterious past, the adventures begin. Anubis deals with themes such as love, happiness and luck, loneliness, sadness and jealousy.

More�and�more�success,��more�and�more�parksThe theme parks of Studio 100 are one of the most spectacular proofs of our success. Count along with us: for now there are three parks in Belgium (Plopsaland De Panne, Plopsa Indoor Hasselt and Plopsa Coo) and one in the Netherlands (Plopsa Indoor Coevorden). We are making plans for similar theme parks in Germany. What’s more, we continue to extend and renovate our existing theme parks, such as the addition of a hotel at Plopsaland De Panne.

CDs�that�everyone��wants�to�listen�to�The CDs of our hit groups sell in the millions. K3 alone, for example has sold no fewer than 3 million CDs. We even invented a new genre of music: toddler pop. Plop the Gnome, the teen heroes of Anubis, Mega Mindy, etc. are getting little kids into the groove and regularly occupying top positions in the hit lists.

A number of songs have even become genuine classics by now, for the kids as well as for their parents, hip twenty-somethings who live it out on the dance floor to the ‘Gnome Dance’. This single even had the longest listing in the history of the Dutch Top 10.
