Introduction to the Corporate Identity

Donegal County Council's corporate identity encapsulates the core values of the organisation and provides us with a unique recognisable identity.

Our corporate identity is intrinsically and historically linked to our Crest or 'Coat of Arms' which was awarded to Donegal County Council by the Chief Herald of Ireland in 1974.

The Donegal County Council Coat of Arms is symbolic of both the nature of the county and its ancient history. The Four quills at the top represents the Four Masters, while the dove represents St. Colmcille (Patron Saint of the County). The wavy bars represent the green hills and golden strands and, by inference the surrounding sea while the small shield in the centre, with its royal ermine, stands for the ancient Kingdom of Aileach and, with the cross of the O'Donnells, signifies the two components of the County - Inishowen and Tir Chonaill.

The Latin wording at the bottom "Mutuam habeatis caritatem" is derived from the last works of St. Colmcille - Maintain among you mutual love and charity".

Our corporate identity is the visual representation of the Council in a range of scenarios including print publications, advertisements, leaflets, brochures, pop-up stands, banners, online websites, social media sites, email, powerpoint presentations, stationery etc. These Corporate Identity Guidelines have been prepared to guide and support all services within the organisation when representing the Council in any of these scenarios. All Council services, partner organisations and stakeholders must comply with these guidelines when acknowledging Donegal County Council’s role and/or contribution in relation to any activity or event being promoted or publicised.

The logo must appear complete, with allgraphic elements and lettering in the relativepositions and sizes, as shown below.

The logo should never be redrawn, adjusted or modified in any way. For example stretching the logo to fit a space.

It must always be reproduced using master originals or approved electronic copies.

The typeface used in the logo is Gotham. No other typefaces may be substituted.

When using this logo please keep an areaequivalent to the height of 2 ‘C’s of ‘Comhairle Contae’ clear from all other elements. [a]

The full colour logo must always be used in full colour publications, on a white background. When colour is not an option, or there are cost restraints the greyscale logo may be used.

Please ensure that there is a high enough contrast between the logo and the background so that it remains legible. [b]

Tá na croíluachanna atá ag Comhairle Contae Dhún na nGall mar eagraíocht fite fuaite leis an fhéiniúlacht chorparáideach atá aici, féiniúlacht uathúil inaitheanta dár gcuid féin.

Tá ár bhféiniúlacht chorparáideach ceangailte go dlúth agus go stairiúil lenár Suaitheantas nó ‘Armas’, ar bhronn Príomh-Aralt na hÉireann ar Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall é 1974.

Is siombal é Armas Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall de

nádúr an chontae agus dá stair ársa. Seasann na ceithre

chleite ag a bharr do na Ceithre Máistrí, agus seasann an colm

do Naomh Colm Cille (Éarlamh an Chontae). Seasann na

barraí iomaireacha do na cnoic ghlasa agus na tránna órga

agus, trí thátal, an fharraige mhór thart orainn. Seasann an

sciath bheag sa lár, lena heirmín ríoga, do Ríocht ársa an

Ailigh, agus le chéile le cros na nDálach tá sí ina siombal den

dá ghné den chontae – Inis Eoghain agus Tír Chonaill.

Fuarthas an fhoclaíocht sa Laidin ag an bhun, mar atá

“Mutuam habeatis caritatem” ó shaothar deiridh Cholm Cille –

“Coinnigí in bhur measc an grá agus an charthanacht dá

chéile”.
