Coronado Cougar Athletics Weekly Newsletter Monday, September 3 rd , 2018 www.chscougarathletics.com NIAA Realignment The NIAA has realigned Divisions, Regions and Classes for the 18-19 and 19-20 school years. Coronado is in the Southeast Division (Basic, Coronado, Green Valley, Foothill, Liberty, SECTA). For football only, the Southeast Division includes Chaparral, because SECTA does not have a FBall team. During the Regional playoffs, CHS will compete in the Desert Region (SE schools + Bishop Gorman, Clark, Desert Oasis, Durango, Silverado, Sierra Vista and Spring Valley). Coronado remains in the 4A (large school) classification made up of 13 Desert Region schools, 14 from the Mountain Region and 11 from the Northern Nevada Region. You will notice that Southern Nevada Region alignment is now separated by schools north of Sahara and schools south of Sahara, this is different than previous years when the Sunrise & Sunset Regions were divided by the I-15 corridor. Tennis On Monday, the Cougar men beat Silverado 17-1. Sebastian Frace had 2 victories in singles play and Aiden Benoualid went 3- 0 in singles. The women’s team won 18-0; Sydney Osburn, Arina Nedyalova & Kaylin Heiss each earned 2 singles victories, and Maddie Garman & Sophia Alvarez scored 2 wins in doubles play. On Friday, the mens’ & women’s teams both beat Sierra Vista 18- 0. Ethan Quandt earned his first “Golden Set” winning all 24 points without losing a single point. The girls’ team swept their opponent 18-0, and has not lost a set all season! Thursday Night Lights! The CHS Athletic Department, in conjunction with CCSD and My LVTV, is proud to announce this week’s varsity football game will be broadcast live in My LVTV (channel 21) on Thursday, September 6 th . The game will feature highlights from different aspects of Coronado including the AP Academy, our sport’s programs and two of our amazing scholar athletes: Haley Morton and Andrew Burdalski. Broadcasting begins with a live weathercast from CHS during the 3:00-4:00pm newscast on Channel 3 featuring the Cougarettes dance team and the CHS pep band. Tune in live, or set your DVR to support the Cougars on Thursday!
