Dear Parents
TERM 2 STUDENT REPORTS
Term 2 reports are an important part of our communication with families.
The reports provide a comprehensive overview of how your child is
progressing half way through the year. Reports will be sent home in Week 10.
These reports are part of a year wide communication process. These include:
Term 1 - Acquaintance Night and 3 way interviews, Term 2 - reports, Term 3 –
interviews if requested, Term 4 - end of year reports.
PUPIL FREE DAYS THURSDAY 23 AND FRIDAY 24 JUNE
A reminder that the school will be closed next Thursday and Friday with staff
undertaking an International Baccalaureate two day workshop on assessment
with an emphasis on how we use Formative assessment with Dr Michelle
Cafini from Rivercrest College in Victoria. This area was listed in our Primary
year’s evaluation in 2015 and has been included as a priority in our 2016 Site
plan.
SPORT PRACTICE
Parents are reminded that student supervision at school sports practice is the
responsibility of parents. Our coaches are parents who have kindly
volunteered their time to support school sport. It is not their responsibility to
manage behaviour and mind younger siblings. If your child is booked into
OSHC at the same time as sport practice, please ensure that they check into
OSHC. If you are unable to be at sports practices please ensure that you have
organised another parent to supervise your child at that time.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIME FROM SCHOOL
We still have students arriving at school as early as 8.00am. Staff do not
commence yard duty until 8.30am so students are unsupervised. Similarly we
have children waiting as late as 4.00pm to be collected. We accept there are
times when parents get caught in traffic or a meeting. When this occurs we
please call the office with an estimated time of arrival as many students
become anxious when they are the only students left.
The school has an excellent Out of School Hours programme that is very
reasonably priced once rebates are factored in. Please consider this option if
your child is regularly early to school or late being collected.

DYSLEXIA
Dyslexia is a lifelong learning disability that predominantly affects a child’s ability to learn to read and write. A child with
dyslexia will often make slower progress than their peers when learning to read and write, even when teachers provide
special assistance.
It is estimated that 5-10% of the population are dyslexic. This means that teachers are likely to have 1-3 children with
dyslexia in each class. On average more males are dyslexic than females. Children of dyslexic parents are more likely to be
dyslexic themselves.
Please contact the school if you have concerns after reading through the check list below.

Parents & Friends
There has been a great start to the 2016 fundraising effort, with more
than $8000 already being raised – well on the way to this year’s target of
$15,000, to be used for a student kitchen (to be built in the OSHC hall).
Sports Day, bulb orders, the Mother’s Day stall and 5c Fridays have all
been strong contributors to the total.
Work is well underway in planning a new JP playground facility to utilise
the funds that were raised last year. The school is looking at a
comprehensive playground facility that can be rolled out in several phases
over the next couple of years. Further information will be available in the
coming weeks.
5c Fridays
Both students and teachers have developed a healthy sense of
competition about P&F’s latest initiative – 5c Fridays. Week 9 will be the
last week of 5c Fridays for this term, with the winning class receiving their
pizza lunch in Week 10.
Community Lottery
There are still more than 15 Community Lottery raffle books available for
families to sell. The Community Lottery provides a healthy injection of
funds into our fundraising every year, and we are keen to ensure we can
sell the full 100 raffle books that we have been allocated. If you are able
to sell a raffle book, please contact the front office.
Girls’ movie night
Put Saturday, August 6 in your diary for the P&F Girls’ movie night at the
Capri. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie will be screening, with tickets just
$15 and full bar service. Information on how to buy tickets will be coming
soon.
SPORTS NEWS
Girls Football
Last Friday our first ever girl’s football team braved the wintry conditions for their first knockout match against Braeview
Primary School. Damien Venning has been working hard with the year 6 & 7 girls to develop their skills and capably
coached our girls. Unfortunately the visiting team was too good
for us on this occasion but it was obvious that all involved had a
great time. We would like to thank Damien for his support and
the time he puts in to developing school sport.

6000 STAIRS
Hi my name is Niamh and I am a year
7 student. On the 3rd of July I will be
taking part in the Stadium Stomp -
climbing the 6,000+ stairs of the
Adelaide oval stadium, in order to try
and raise money for my chosen
charity, Little Heroes. Little Heroes
does a great job with supporting
seriously ill children. I will be one of
the youngest to take part in this
event since 12 is the minimum age to
participate. The goal I would love to
raise is currently $250. I would be so
grateful if you could sponsor me to
do this and make an online donation
at
http://stadiumstomp2016ao.gofundr
aise.com.au/page/NiamhHegarty
Alternatively, I will leave a collection
tin at the front office if you would
like to make a gold coin donation.
Thank you in advance for helping me
to raise money for very sick children.
