Using this guide
The Open Studios Cornwall 2010 guide is designed to be easy to use. It is divided into West, Mid and North/East Cornwall and within each section, artists are ordered geographically. If you are planning to visit a particular area, such as Falmouth or St Ives, you can look up which artists are in that district. And, if you intend to visit a particular artist, you can find out who else is in their neighbourhood.
Remember that opening times vary. Not all of the participants will be exhibiting for the whole week, so check the opening times before you visit.
Each venue will be clearly indicated by an Open Studios Cornwall sign.
The wheelchair access information given in the entries is only a rough guide to accessibility. If you have particular access needs, it is a good idea to phone the exhibitor in advance.
Most exhibitors will be happy to take a deposit to reserve an artwork and make arrangements for you to collect it at a convenient time. They will put a red sticker on it; make sure that you get a receipt.
You can commission work from some artists but make sure that what is agreed is confirmed in writing.
Pick up the artists information card if you like their work, so that you remember where they are and can contact them again if you want to buy more of their artworks.
Feedback is essential for the future development of Open Studios Cornwall. This year we have produced a questionnaire, which the artist will ask you to complete. If you can find the time to complete it you may win a bottle of champagne for your trouble!
Lastly, dont forget your cheque book! Most exhibitors are not able to take payment by credit card but cash will do nicely, thank you!

KROWJI
Creative Skills run Open Studios Cornwall from their Redruth office, based in the former Redruth Grammar School now known as Krowji (Cornish for shed or workplace), a site which is being developed into a vibrant creative community and Cornwalls foremost sector-based business cluster.
The long term vision is that the site will provide accommodation for most of Cornwalls key strategic cultural and creative industries projects. It will integrate up to 150 creative workspaces with business support and information, advice and guidance services for practitioners and creative businesses second to none in the country, as well as being part of wider plans for the regeneration of Redruth and the surrounding area.
Krowji is owned and run by ACT Cornwall Arts Centre Trust, the parent company of Creative Skills. Its already home to a
number of arts organisations including Creative Skills, the European Regions of Culture Campaign Organisation, Carn to Cove, Miracle Theatre, Cornwall Film Festival, Cornwall Councils Creative Services team and ProjectBase.
The studios
Krowji also has a number of studio spaces for a variety of practising artists. At the moment there are about 30 studios, ranging in size from tiny cubby-holes at about 60 square feet up to 1,000 square feet or more. They all have 24 hour, 365 days access, natural light and electricity, as well as access to some office services by arrangement. Tenancy agreements are on easy in/out terms.
Theres a real mix of artforms here, from furniture makers to photographers to web designers to painters to jewellers to textile makers to ceramicists. Theres also a large rehearsal space and several meeting rooms available to hire by the hour or day. See our website at www.krowji.org.uk for more details.
Studios to rent become available on a regular basis so if youre interested please contact Elisa McLeod on 01209 313200 or email her at elisa@actcornwall.org.uk
The Melting Pot caf is also here, so if you visit the Krowji artists during Open Studios Cornwall you will be able to enjoy the delights of homemade cake and fair-trade teas and coffees. The caf is fully licensed and provides an all day menu.

The creative process for me is about manipulating the paint so that texture and colour become the more exciting element than the image. The paintings emerge from my interaction with paint and colour. All the work is created in my studio in idyllic west penwith location. Free parking; disable access, refreshment, cakes and beautiful gardens.
