The Cain Center for the Arts is a teaching studio and does not support production potters. Works made outside of the center are not permitted and will not be fired. Shelving is limited and will only be assigned to those registered in an instructional ceramics class. Most adult programs
require students to purchase supplies and tools. Supply lists are provided upon registration.

6-WEEK SESSION ADULT CLASSES (ages 16 and Up)
All Level WheelThis class is perfect for beginning wheel students or the more experienced ones. Work at your own level on projects of interest with a focus on form, shaping, and textural methods. Techniques will be presented through demonstrations and individual instruction.

All Level HandbuildingStudents will express themselves artistically while working with clay to create various forms, vessels, and functional ware. A variety of techniques will be explored including the addition of textural elements, carving and stamping forms to create beautiful pieces.

All Level Wheel & HandbuildingStudents will explore handbuilding and wheel throwing as well as learn various decorating and glazing techniques in this unique combination class.

Drawing Fundamentals Have you always wanted to learn how to draw? In this beginner-level class, you will be taught how to translate what you see all around you using charcoal and graphite. The basics of line, shape, space, value, perspective, and composition will be explored, using both simple objects and more complicated subjects. This class is a solid foundation for many artistic expressions.

Watercolor for All LevelsStudents of all skill levels will be taught the various techniques of watercolor composition and stroke work to create bold, colorful, works of art. They will then move on to subjects of their own choosing with guidance from the instructor.

Self-Directed Ceramics Designed for advanced ceramics students who have taken at least two previous ceramics classes at the Cornelius Arts Center. No instructor provided. Participants are expected to be able to function independently, as well as perform technical tasks essential to the operation of the studio by using and maintaining studio equipment and supplies responsibly. Draw Like the Masters (ages 8-12)Students will learn about the life, works, and art styles of Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo, and Victor Vaserely and use a variety of art media to create drawings inspired by these famous artists.

Open Studio (ages 7-12)Explore a different medium each week! Dabble in drawing, plunge into paint, jangle with jewelry, step up to sculpture, and more – the sky is the limit for what you can learn. Perfect for budding artists who are looking to learn a little bit about all types of visual arts!

Painting for Teens (ages 12-16)Take your art to the next level! Students will develop foundational skills in composition, space, blending, and light while developing works of art in mediums like watercolor and acrylic. This class is for all levels. Supplies will be provided.

Ceramic Handbuilding for Teens (ages 12-16)Come play in the mud with us! This handbuilding clay class will explore the techniques of pinching, coiling, slab building and glazing to make ceramic birdhouses, masks, teapots, animals, and more! Clay and glaze will be supplied.

Drop-In Art for Preschoolers & Homeschoolers (Ages 3 & Up)Join us for mixed media projects adaptable for all ages. Come for an hour or stay for two! Enjoy one of our fun, themed activities, or do them all! Children 5 and older may be dropped off. Children 4 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult.
