The aim of this project is to communicate information about the collection of some items to certain audience. The project should be implemented by choosing owned collection or items from UAL archives. The information should be obtained from the subject and then should be compared, linked and displayed. It is also important to show the enthusiasm for the selected collection as well as the information about the object that is gained in the process.

Brief

Page 5: cork

The main reason I have collected wine corks was the feeling that they give me. They have wonderful texture, design, smell and colour of wine..

Firstly, I have done some research about corks such as how it is being made, why they use cork for wine and why they print their brand on it?

I have visited a wine factory to ask them every thing that I needed. There were some questions about what would be interesting for my audience about corks?

- The design and the font they have used.- The texture of the corks-The colour of wine on it- The codes. I am curious to know what are the codes that labeled on the corks.

The codes on the corks show the quality of wine. Corks are made by the skin of the tree and it makes a better smell for the wine.

By looking at these corks we will usually find out about the year that wine is produced, locations, companies and quality of corks. Another way of looking at it is its design and branding, texture, type of wood used, colour of the wine such as Red, Rose, White and etc.

Feedbacks,

- I like the way you focused on corks. I can see the texture, colure and designs.

- You can perhaps scan them to actually open the whole design on the corks.

Opening design and data on the corks by scanning them. Looking at the design and branding on corks.- I have also tried to do some printing by using corks and different colours of wine to see if it is possible to get a great texture out of it.

IDEAS

First ideaDuring the interviews from different art students at LCC, I have found out that most of them like to focus on corks. Something like using magnifier to look at the details of it.

Thus, I think the best way of looking at corks collection is to make the corks bigger on a big screen and allowing the audience to spin it around by touching. Audience can look at the design, font, texture and also the colour of the wine. Moreover, the audience can look at the collection in better way.

Second ideaScanning the cork and opening the logo and information on the cork to look at it clearly. Then, making an installation. This Installation will show the collection and design of them. On the back of each, the information such as which year it is produced, where it is from and the code information will be written.

Feedbacks & improving the idea

The idea of making the corks bigger is very interesting because you want the audience to look at the design, texture and colour of wine on them.

Maria and Josh, GMD lecturers: You may not need to write the information of the

corks on the wall. There is no need. Think about the design of how the corks will look like in the exhibition. After testing different designs for my exhibition. I have decided to having walls in the middle of th exhibition. Which you can find the final one on the last page.

By using the 3D Scanner and 123D Catch app, I have done some 3D scanning of the corks for the exhibition.

By scanning the corks, I have designed a supporting publication for the exhibition.Firstly, I have designed the booklet to show the design of the corks. The second idea was to make some cards with cork materials where the design of the cork is printed on them. For each 3d scanned cork, there will be some of these cards. The audience can make their own collection of the cards that they like and put them in the box that is given to them. Inside the box there is the general guidance about the cards which include the relevant data about the corks that they have collected.
