CoreCell-E LTE eNodeB 4G LTE Radio Access Network T ecore Networks eNodeB (eNB) provides a radio access node for 4G LTE User Equipment (UEs) connecting to a 4G LTE network. The eNB is a nodal component of the Evolved UMTS Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) and integrates seamlessly with Tecore’s 4G LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) over an All-IP packet data network providing a complete LTE network solution for commercial, government, and military applications. Wireless operators are demanding greater packet data throughput on their mobile devices and applications. The Tecore eNB addresses these requirements by providing scalable bandwidth options, enhanced modulation techniques, and MIMO, allowing for more energy per bit and more bits per hertz. These enhanced techniques translate into a better quality of service, higher bit rates for packet data intensive applications, an evolution path for existing 2G and 3G networks as well as Greenfield 4G LTE network deployments. The modular design of the eNB and small foot print provide for ease of installation and integration of the BaseBand Unit (BBU) and the Remote Radio Head (RRH) into a 4G LTE network. Call control and baseband processing functions are provided by the BBU while the RRH provides the transmit and receive radio signal functions of the eNB. The eNB utilizes fiber connections between the BBU and RRH which minimizes feeder loss and supports a distributed architecture. The RRH may be collocated with the BBU or the RRH may be remotely distributed up to 20 kilometers over digital serial interfaces supporting single-mode fiber connections. The eNB is compliant to standard 3GPP R9 specifications. Baseband Unit The Baseband Unit (BBU) offers a cost effective LTE solution for LTEFDD and LTE-TDD deployments. The BBU is housed in a 3U rack height unit that can be mounted in a standard 19 inch rack or wall mounted. The BBU provides a single channel control module and one (1) to three (3) channel element modules in a single BBU enclosure. Fiber connections are supported to connect the BBU to the Remote Radio Head (RRH) with Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) high-speed serial digital interfaces. The BBU connects to the eNB element management system providing OAM functions and may be integrated with Tecore’s LTE EPC providing a complete end to end management solution with a total lower cost of ownership. It can be deployed in indoor environments (standard 19 inch rack or existing cabinets) and outdoor environments. BBU Channel Control Module Features The BBU channel control module provides the OAM functions for the eNB over standard Ethernet connections. The control module allows for up to 6 fiber based CPRI links and six (6) RRHs to be supported from a single eNB The control module provides part of call processing and internal/external iCore® data flow switching/combining, supporting external/internal alarm connectivity and external synchronization reference interface. The control module interfaces the channel element modules through the backplane of the BBU enclosure. Remote Radio Head (RRH) The eNB RRH is linked to the BBU by an optical-fiber connection carrying downlink and uplink digital radio signals along with operations, administration and maintenance (OA&M) information. The RRH has two transmit RF paths with up to 40 W RF output power per transmit path and is designed to manage up to two-way receive diversity. The device is ideally suited to support macro coverage, with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) 2x2 operation in up to 20 MHz of bandwidth. RRH Unit Features The RRH unit provides support for multi-sector and 1-sector/ OMNI configurations. It is lightweight, easily installed and maintained, with a zero footprint deployment. Fiber is utilized to connect the RRH to the BBU channel control module for transport of downlink and uplink digital signals and to minimize feeder loss. Each RRH supports a single FDD and TDD 3GPP frequency band (multiple bands are supported) and provides optimized power control. The high power unit with a small form factor is convection cooled supporting power output options up to 40 watts. 7030 Hi Tech Drive Hanover, MD 21076, U.S.A. + 1.410.872.6500 [email protected] www.Tecore.com
