Arran Whitebeams
The Isle of Arran is home to two species of tree, which do not occur anywhere else inthe world, the Arran Whitebeam ( ) and the Arran cut-leavedWhitebeam ( ). They are Scotland's rarest native trees, and inglobal terms are officially classed as dangerously close to extinction by the WWF. Onlya few hundred trees of each species exist, clinging perilously to the steep rocky slopesof Glen Catacol and Diomhan in the north of the island.
