1st A.S.SUBBARAMAN MEMORIAL TROPHY INTERNATIONAL FIDE RATED OPEN BLITZ

CHESS TOURNAMENT 2019 The 1st A S Subbaraman Memorial Trophy is an International FIDE Rated Open Blitz Chess Tournament to be held in the memory of Shri A.S.Subbaraman (late), father of Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman (Viji). Vijayalakshmi is one of the greatest Woman Chess players of India. Her list of achievements is just endless. In her early days Shri. Subbaraman learnt the Game of Chess for his daughter Viji and went on to teach her the basics of the game. Viji’s journey started in the Chess field with her fathers’ extended support, which enabled her to evolve as a Champion at the International level. His coaching made Viji become the First Ever Woman Grandmaster of our Country and also a proud recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award. Shri. Subbaraman lived as a perfect guru for his daughters (Viji, Meenakshi and Banupriya) in driving them towards their excellence in Chess game. He was instrumental in making two of his daughters, Woman Grandmasters of our Country and in turn promoting Women Sports in India. Viji has won 2 Commonwealth Gold Medals, 2 Chess Olympiad Silver Medals on top board, 35+ National Championships and the medal tally goes on. His Untiring Himalayan Efforts and Spirited Dedication made the Subbaraman Sisters rewrite Indian Chess History many a time. He and his wife Rani Subbaraman ensured a perfect Chess Playing atmosphere on and off the board for their daughters for which, in the whole of chess fraternity, they were popularly known as ‘The Chess Family’. The Subbaraman’s have also been an inspiration to many parents with girl children and chess players who have been looking to play Chess Professionally.

Viji wishes to extend her father and Guru Shri.Subbaraman’s legacy as an inspirational story to other Players and Parents who are venturing into Chess field, by Conceptualising an International FIDE Rated Open Blitz Chess Tournament annually. Heading the Queens Chess Academy as an Honorary President, her vision to Organise a World Class International FIDE Rated Blitz Event with High Prize Fund will kickstart this Independence Day. The tournament will be organized by Queens Chess Academy along with IITM Chess Club and will act as a milestone in motivating next generation to become our future Chess Stars.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

System of Play The latest FIDE Rules applicable for Blitz play shall apply and the Swiss system will be followed.

Mode of Tournament

Total 11 rounds shall be played.

Time Control 3 minutes each + 2 seconds increment per player per move from move no.1

Tie break For First Prize, in case of a tie, Play off will decide the winner. For other placings, Direct Encounter, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and number of wins (forfeit included) tiebreak systems will be applied. In case of tie, prizes will not be shared.

Default Time 3 Minutes

AICF Player Registration

AICF player registration is compulsory for all players. AICF Player Registration fee is Rs. 250/- for the year 2019 - 2020. As per latest AICF regulation all AICF registrations will be accepted only through online. Players/Arbiters registration should be done well in advance before the event starts (Tournament). New entrants to the field of chess are mandated that AICF player’s registration is mandatory and it should be done well before participating in any tournament. For renewing AICF registration of existing players, please click http://aicf.in/players/ For fresh AICF registration please click http://aicf.in/online-player-registration/. For fresh AICF registration, players are requested to keep their scanned passport size photograph and birth certificate and a valid email address (unique and not provided to fide for another player/arbiter), ready before the registration process. Note: Only passport size (less than 1MB) photographs in jpeg format should be uploaded.

TNSCA Player Registration

TNSCA Player registration is compulsory for all Tamil Nadu players. TNSCA Registration fee is Rs. 150/- for the year 2019 - 2020. Players registering with TNSCA should submit duly filled and signed TNSCA Players Registration form along with a copy of their Date of Birth certificate and one passport size photograph. Those who have already paid the same must attach/ show the proof for that, failing which they will have to pay the registration fee.

Chennai DCA Registration

Chennai DCA Player registration is compulsory for Chennai District players only. The registration fee Rs.100/- for the year 2019 – 20.

Protests Protests if any, against the decision of the Chief Arbiter shall be made in writing with protest fee of Rs.500/- within 15 minutes of the occurrence of the incident to the appeals committee. The protest fee will be refunded if the appeal is upheld.

Appeals Committee Before the commencement of the Tournament, appeals committee will be formed from the senior participants present at the players meeting. The appeals committee decisions will be final and binding on all players concerned.

Withdrawals A player may withdraw at any stage of the event, after informing the chief arbiter in writing.

Last date Entries close on 12.08.2019.

Rights of admission The AICF/TNSCA /Chennai DCA/organizer Queens Chess Academy reserve the right to admit/reject any entry without assigning any reason thereof. The AICF/TNSCA/Chennai DCA/organizer Queens Chess Academy reserve the rights of admission to the venue.

Wrist watches & Mobile Phones

AICF has banned the wrist watches while playing in FIDE Rated events. Players are instructed not to wear wrist watches while playing. Mobiles, if brought to the hall, must be kept in a separate bag in switch off mode. Violating the rule in both cases will lead to the loss of the game.
