AR650 Series Universal Computing GatewaysHuawei AR650 series universal computing gateways are designed to meet the requirements of cloud computing, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). The AR650 series universal computing gateways are flexible and open, and can provide services on demand. They provide network access for enterprise branches and feature cost-effectiveness, service scalability, and simple O&M.
Product Overview1
The traditional customer premise equipment (CPE) has a closed architecture, and different services are supported by different devices. With the growing number of enterprise services, the management and O&M of enterprise branch networks are becoming more complex. In addition, the provisioning of services by enterprise branch networks must keep up with the rate at which they are being developed.
The universal CPE (uCPE) uses the X86-based universal hardware platform to virtualize bearer services. The Agile Controller centrally deploys virtualized network functions (VNFs) (such as vFW, and vWOC) on the uCPE as required, to implement fast service provisioning and reduce network deployment costs.
Huawei AR650 series universal computing gateways use a universal computing platform, support virtualization functions and SDN architecture, and provide the virtualization environment and basic operating system (OS). The OS integrates some IP functions, for example, basic routing, switching, and IPSec. Huawei and third-party VNFs can be deployed on the AR650 to implement multiple services, such as routing, firewall, and WAN acceleration. The OS and VNFs of the AR650 are centrally managed by Huawei's Agile Controller, simplifying network deployment and management and reducing costs for enterprise branches.

• uCPE hardware: The AR650 is based on the X86 architecture and supports virtualization. Huawei and third-party VNFs can be installed on it, implementing flexible on-demand service expansion and quick deployment. The AR650 provides expansion slots to support expansion of service interface cards and hard disks.
• uCPE OS: The uCPE OS is a host software system running on the uCPE hardware. The uCPE OS provides the Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) and SD-WAN router functions by default. The NFVI includes components and functions such as Hypervisor (KVM/QEMU), vSwitch, device management, alarm, and performance monitoring. The SD-WAN router includes functions such as DHCP, routing, NAT, VPN, SPR, and QoS.
• VNFs: Huawei provides VNFs such as USG6000V.
• Orchestrator/Controller: Manages uCPE and orchestrates and coordinates services. Huawei's Agile Controller centrally manages the AR650, virtualization environment, and VNFs. It supports automatic deployment of VNFs, full lifecycle management, and service chain orchestration.
Huawei uCPE solution includes the following key components:

Product Highlights2
On-demand value-added services (VASs) and rapid provisioning
• Supports the on-demand expansion of Huawei's and third-party VNFs and interconnection with the third-party orchestration layer.
• Supports full lifecycle management of VNFs, such as application deployment, monitoring, and deletion.
• Supports flexible orchestration of the VAS service chain.
Simple deployment and intelligent O&M
• Supports email-based deployment, USB-based deployment, and plug-and-play. Indicators intuitively display service status. These deployment modes facilitate the quick construction of enterprise IT networks.
• Supports functions of the Agile Controller, including centralized management, refined control, and visualized O&M, simplifying branch service deployment and reducing network maintenance costs.
Open platform and high cost-effectiveness
• Uses an X86-based open platform, supporting the deployment of multiple VNFs.
• Provides the built-in SD-WAN function, providing flexible hybrid WAN interconnection with application-based intelligent path selection and acceleration.
• Supports various wired and wireless network interfaces and supports LTE Cat 6, meeting diversified service requirements of enterprises.
In the SD-WAN solution, the AR650 functions as the edge gateway and supports multiple types of physical links, such as MPLS leased line, Internet, and LTE. The AR650 integrates various SD-WAN features, supports hybrid link access, and provides visualized and controllable services. This reduces WAN interconnection costs and improves O&M efficiency. Multiple VASs such as vFirewall and vWOC can be deployed. The Agile Controller orchestrates services, implementing rapid service provisioning.
