Why are HRV and
Pulse Ox Important
Photoplethysmography
How does Optical Heart Rate WORK?
PPGPPG is a technique that uses optical sensors to measure changes in blood volume. PPG can
detect heart rate by sensing the small changes in volume in the capillary layer just below the
epidermis as the pulse pressure wave transits the wrist area.

HRV OR BBI
WORDS HAVE MEANING
WHICH IS WHICH?Heart Rate Variability is the variation of your pulse, beat over beat. When an ECG is used, those
beats are the RR Intervals.
When PPG is used, it’s known as Beat-to-Beat Intervals (BBI).
Why do we care?
Hrv is medically significant
Hrv is meaningfulLeading indicator for …
• Stress and Recovery
• Sleep Stage Classification
• Real-Time Drowsiness Detection
• Overall Energy Levels
• Breathing Relaxation
• Respiration
• Mental Health
• Chronic Disease Classification
Pulse Ox
Blood Oxygenation Levels
(SPO2)
Pulse ox is the saturation of oxygen in your blood.
Knowing your saturation levels can help determine
how your body is acclimating to changes in altitude
and lower levels may indicate abnormal health
conditions*.
Ideal >95%
Normal 90-100%
Moderate 80-89%
Low 70-79%
Harmful <70%

Advanced Sleep
Improved onset/wake detection
Vastly improved classification + REM
Based on HRV and Motion
Algorithm developed against polysomnograph
data scored by trained sleep study technicians
Deep sleep typically occurs early in the sleep window,
usually between 1 and 3 hours total
3 to 4 REM cycles is typical, varying in length

Sleep APNEA
Steps toward a regulated Software feature
Apnea is a serious sleep disorder
characterized by frequent breathing
interruptions leading to
dangerous drops in blood oxygenation
(Pulse Ox).
One of the most untreated undiagnosed
conditions.
Leads to mood disorders, memory problems,
chronic fatigue, heart arrhythmias, heart
attacks, and stroke!
Atrial Fibrillation
Irregular heart Rhythms
Heart Arrhythmia
Normal ECG – Regular pattern between beats
AFib – Notice “saw tooth” pattern between beats
Does not necessarily mean high pulse
Also highly under-diagnosed
Usually not found until a heart attack or
stroke occurs and it is too late
