findings– Saves the reader from searching for key
information– Points should be self-explanatory

sort of impact that has on the results– Describe certain variables and their quality
limitations - discuss reasons why there were problems with these variables
– Include error rates, imputation rates, non-response rates

• Used to illustrate or examine quantitative aspects of the data
• Quickly reveal relationships among several categories of facts
• Allow for direct comparisons of amounts

General guidelines– Choose a clear and logical design– Avoid clutter - use spacing– Rounded data are easier to read and compare– Like elements should read down, not across– Arrange columns in some rational order– State units of measure

TYPES OF TABLES
• INFORMAL– Brief and simple– Usually untitled– Often seen as a continuation of text
• FORMAL– Structured with an explicit format– Numbered consecutively in a report

CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PREPARING GRAPHS AND CHARTS
• Consider the medium - slides, overhead, paper?
• Decide what the graph is intended to stress - magnitude, size, trend?
• Pay attention to– Titles– Legends– Tones or colors

• Use charts or graphs to explain or support major points
• Keep graphs simple– It should not need detailed explanation
• Refer to the graph in the text– Place it near the reference.
• Avoid 3D presentations

CHOOSE APPROPRIATE GRAPH
• Pie Charts– relation of parts to a whole
• Column & Bar Charts– compare and emphasize magnitude– show time series over few periods
• Line Chart– show time series over many periods
